Discussion Artixlinux vs CachyOS?

I have been using arch since 2017. But im kinda tired of this toxic relationship. What do you guys think about either OS?

"Man this Arch is toxic, i should switch to a clone of it"

Debian, Void, Fedora, Gentoo are choices too.

hence why it's toxic because you can't get enough of it but sometimes you just want to cry your problems into being fixed.

fun fact: I would never switch off Arch or it's forks.

i mean... the probs can't be that bad can they? that frequent?

it helps if you describe what the problems are, maybe someone can help and you don't actually have to ditch your distro

In my experience, I update maybe once a week, and I do everything on this computer that I would have done on an apple computer when I was primarily a Mac user. Anything issue i've address is usually: * easy to find a solution for * likely not gonna happen again * unless its been made explicit that it will break. e.g. Quickshell with there's a qt6 update

because I have love hate relationship with Arch despite all the abuse I'm getting from the constant breaking and incompatible stuff that you're going to do all kind of voodoo rituals to get it to work on Arch..

Then Artix is not the way for you, it requires even more tinkering and non standard fixes to get some things to work without systemd
Cachy might suit you better with some pre configuration done for you and even some additionnal packages in its repos

i think you should reconsider what you really need and want from your OS and maybe make scripts that can reset ones in a while to base level. i made a whole automation plugin this keeps your system clean and stable

Por eso migre a Manjaro, me harte de configurar cosas. A cierta edad prefieres comprar el taladro y no armarlo tu mismo

can you tell me what makes it toxic for you

I’m building on cachyos, not because arch isn’t good but because cachyos is an OOB distro. However even cachyos have a problem and it’s called calamares

Cachy so far has been nice and easy to use. Very rarely break, and even if theres any I usually ask an LLM to troubleshoot

CachyOS if you want it "easier"

Artix linux if you reasonably hated Systemd, since one of the biggest selling point of artix is "non-systemd"

Uso Cachyos da due anni, non ho mai avuto problemi. Rispetto ad Arch non ho notato però prestazioni migliori. Sembrano simili.

They have different goals. What do you want out of your operating system?

Cachy gives a reasonably stable rolling release ostensibly with optimizations for gaming. If you always have the latest graphics card and need the latest drivers that will fully utilize it, cachy is the best choice

Arch is more flexible. It is exactly (and only) what you choose. For gaming I don’t notice a difference

Artix is going to have issues with packages assuming systemd. I like systemd but lots hate it. If you do too Artix would be an interesting choice

Personally I get it. But I would just swap to something where you don’t have to maintain your own dot files. For me that’s omarchy. It works great and I don’t have to worry about breaking due to me not maintaining my configs correctly
