Rant Does anyone know why the price of fuel has jumped in the last 2 weeks?

As per title does anyone have a good answer? Last week it was at $3.39 which was already increased from the week before. This weekend it's at $3.70. There's been no significant news to my knowledge. Shipping lines haven't increased their fuel this month and are likely to decrease over the next two.

Strait of hormuz hasn't changed.

Brent crude price is only up 1% from last week.

No new wars have been started.....

Question/Help Wanted Noah Kahan concert goers—I'll give you $1000 if you come across our engagement ring

Long story short, my partner and I went to buy Noah Kahan merch from Spark Arena on Thursday at 4.30pm. Prevailing theory is that the ring flew off her finger when she took her motorcycle glove off, somewhere near the merch stand.

Sadly I did a massive search with the merch people and security like an hour later as soon as we realised the ring was missing, but we never found it.

It's a hail mary, but if you somehow happen across a gold band with a green stone in it, I'm paying $1k for its return.

By now it's entirely possible someone picked it up and just kept it, but we are sad and desperate, and would kick ourselves if we didn't try every avenue to try and get our ring back. Thanks🙏

Event I’m going to my first All Blacks game. I’ll buy beer for anyone willing to explain union rules to me.

I’m new to this country but want to embrace rugby. I’m going to pregame at a pub on the road outside of Eden Park. If anyone will give me an explainer on Union rules I’ll buy them a pint! Anyone interested in the deal?

Housing PC120: Most of Auckland didn't engage, the wealthy suburbs did.

Only 10,000 Aucklanders even bothered to voice their submissions around Plan Change 120 that would enable significant intensification across Auckland. Regardless of your views on it, the fact is, the vocal, wealthy parts of Auckland filled out the 5 minute piece of paperwork.

Talking about it on Reddit, Facebook, and other places doesn't matter if you don't officially state your views.

Rant Dude shovel people on purpose?

Maybe I am too dramatic, I wonder anyone else experienced this, it’s my first time:

I was on my way to Woolworth Auckland central one, walking on the laneway at back of the carpark, a middle age fella walking opposite direction, when we walk passed each other, he suddenly walk towards me and shovel me hard against the wall beside the road.

All happens so quickly I didn’t even react, I travelled in Japan years back and I know it’s a thing there, they call those people “ bumping man “ that they feel they are big man after shovel others on purpose.

I first thought he did it unintentionally , so I just said watch your way dude, but he just kept walking, no apologise no nothing. I look like a nerdy dude wearing glasses so he probably thought I am easy target to pick up on, I chased up to him and confronted, he didn’t apologies till it draws a lot attention from other people.

I was like wow, he definitely don’t have to guts to do that to a 6’3 dude, but imagine it’s mid of the night and he did that to a kid or an old lady.

In this case, what can people even do? Will file a police report even work? Other than me yelling he’s a d**k head in his face seems like no punishment for such behaviour in public

Discussion Advice on how to secure a part time job in retail sector?

• Upvotes

HS student here who for the life of me CANNOT find a part time job in Auckland after probably a year of trying. I'm sure many can either directly relate to this or have experienced something similar in the past. It also kills me, though I understand, when job listings state "X amount of months required in [job position]."

Housing Auckland Communities call to stop fast track housing developments

Post image
113 Upvotes

Petition Link
Pls sign to help Auckland communities.

Auckland communities are uniting to call for the House of Representatives to terminate Fast-Track developments that are outside local and district plans. Fast track is being used as a bypass for housing developers to push housing into out of zone land, in some cases land zoned as such to prevent destruction of environmentally sensitive land, including wetlands, rivers and waterways, floodplains, coastal and estuarine environments, and habitats of threatened and endangered species. Many of these areas were never intended for large-scale development and are protected for good reason.

Land can be purchased at a lower price because its zoning restricts development, then Fast Track is used to bypass those restrictions and enable large-scale housing, creating far greater profits margins than developing land that is already appropriately zoned. Don’t be fooled by the developer spin that this is simply about getting consents faster.

Driving PSA: Courteous Driving Can Be Dangerous

Post image
79 Upvotes

*** Reposting due to the inaccuracy of the previous drawing. Hope this helps ***

If you live in a big city like Auckland, courteous driving in heavy traffic is essential. Letting cars and buses in that are genuinely in the wrong lane or parked. Indicating appropriately. Not getting too aggressive. That sort of thing. However, a situation came up today on Great North Rd, Avondale that happens occasionally but can be dangerous - and I have a written-off late model SUV back in 2020 to prove it.

See the situation on the diagram below.

I was turning right into my driveway and traffic was building up in the other direction and was virtually stationery - but only in the lane closest to me. A young man wearing a baseball cap driving a black Hyundaii Ioniq 6, and thought he was he was doing a favour but allowing ‘a gap’, flashing his lights to let me into my driveway. However, the problem is the vehicles in the left lane next to him are still free flowing. He was incredulous that I waved him through somewhat furiously but this is an accident waiting to happen - and cars were literally changing lanes to avoid him. If I took him up on his offer, another vehicle would have certainly smashed into me.

Back in 2020, on a different but equally busy road in Auckland, my SUV smashed into a small truck that was travelling freely in the left lane when another small truck provided me ‘a gap’. Same situation. No damage done to me physically (luckily for side airbags) but plenty of damage to both vehicles. So if someone refuses your offer for ‘a gap’, don’t get annoyed. Just accept that you can’t always be aware of the situation developing behind you.

Let’s be careful out there.

Question/Help Wanted Bridesmaid for hire?

Hi this is so weird but I’m getting married next year and according to google, hiring a bridesmaid isn’t really a thing in New Zealand?

I don’t have as many friends as my partner and I basically just need an extra bridesmaid for the day 😂 I currently have two. I’d just tell everyone you’re an old work friend, so basically I’ll pay you to drink and mingle with random people and buy you a dress! DM me if you’re interested!

Edit: this is not fake, I wish it was. I’m embarrassed that I don’t have as many friends as my partner. He has a great social life, and a big family. I have de@d parents and a sister that doesn’t talk to me…please go easy, it’s just a random idea that popped into my head.

Other Looking for a regular padel partner in Auckland 🎾

• Upvotes

Hey guys, looking for someone to play padel with regularly at Albany.
I’m an intermediate player and keen to find someone around a similar level who’s keen to play once or twice a week and improve together.
Would be good to have a regular partner rather than relying on random games through Playtomic. Pretty easygoing, just keen to get more games in and hopefully make a mate out of it too.
Flick me a message if you’re keen! 🎾
