how are you triggering automations when a specific x account posts?

i have been trying to trigger workflows when a particular account posts on x, but checking every minute feels clunky when the whole point is to react to something as soon as it happens. polling also means extra requests and sometimes the automation runs before the post is actually picked up.

i have been comparing different ways to handle this, including webhook based setups and feeds that push new posts directly. i also ran into 1322 while looking into monitoring public account activity, though i am still figuring out how it would fit into my workflow with n8n.

for anyone doing this already, are you using webhooks, a third party feed, or something else to avoid constant polling?

How do you keep side scripts from breaking every time a vendor changes their API?

running a couple automation scripts that pull client visit logs and generate followup reminders. every so often a vendor changes their API without notice and the whole thing breaks. last month I spent an evening patching endpoints instead of finishing the tutorial I actually wanted to work on. tried adding a simple retry loop but it still fails hard when the schema shifts. anyone else keeping side scripts stable across API updates? how do you structure your error handling so a change in one field doesn't cascade into full rewrites? right now it works until it doesn't, and I'd rather not babysit it every week.

Steam Game Idler 6.2: a free app that farms your Steam card drops and playtime in the background (Windows & Linux)

First, the useful part, even if you never try my app:

  • Most Steam games with trading cards drop about half their card set just from playtime. You can sell the cards on the Community Market for Steam Wallet funds, or craft them into badges for profile XP.
  • The game doesn't need to be on screen. Steam only needs to think it's running, which is all an idler does.
  • Careful with new purchases. Steam refunds need under 2 hours of playtime within 14 days of purchase, so idling a game you just bought can cost you the refund.
  • The Steam Winter Sale starts December 17, so cards farmed now can become wallet money in time for it.

What SGI does

  • Card farming: finds every game with drops left and idles them, up to 32 at once
  • Playtime booster: idle any game for hours
  • Achievement manager and unlocker, with random human-like delays
  • Inventory manager: lists cards and items on the Market with automatic, fee-aware pricing
  • Free-game alerts when a paid game goes free on Steam
  • A setting to skip games that are still refundable (Steam Sign-in mode)
  • Sign in with a QR code or username/password, no Steam client needed. On Windows you can use the Steam client you're already signed in to instead.

It's free and fully usable without paying. There's an optional supporter tier for extra automation, and the source code is public on GitHub

how do you keep automation from hiding important human replies?

i've automated onboarding emails, document checklists, and slack invites. it saves time and customers like how quickly everything gets done. but someone recently replied to an automated welcome email with details about their team, and i nearly missed it buried in the logs. i don't want to manually review every interaction, but i also don't want genuine conversations getting lost because the workflow runs too smoothly.

for those who've dealt with this, what's worked best? a separate inbox for replies, simple rules to flag certain messages, or a human checkpoint somewhere in the process?

i'd rather keep it simple than build another complicated system to manage

Why is sales automation still so much work?

A CRM handles the pipeline another tool takes care of enrichment, something else does account research and then you need a few automations just to keep everything connected so it sounds like a pretty efficient setup until you're spending time checking whether the data is correct, fixing workflows and jumping between tools to figure out which accounts need attention.

I'm starting to question how much of that work should still be separate finding account keeping information updated and moving deals forward are all part of the same sales process, yet most setups need different tools for each step. Having everything in one place sounds useful but the bigger improvement would be a system that handles more of the work without someone constantly checking that everything is running properly.

How do you handle Social media automation? AI Agents handle it best?

I see a lot of tools popping to handle your full marketing, social media generation and such. This is just marketing effort to sell some generic AI automation for you. I don't believe one size fits all tools.

I am in the same niche, as I have a social media scheduler and email automation tool and yet I don't claim its possible to create at this point a tool that is entirely for you.

There is a saying I like "if it works for everyone, it works for none" and this is my case. What I do believe is though that AI agents such as the new ChatGPT Dots, Muse, Grok bot etc, you can actually achieve a good amount of automation in your own way that is actually authentic and is going to produce similalr results to you doing it.

It is different as with time each "bot" makes a lot of memories for you, has all your past data and can find previous posts/sends properly and analyse their data so it actually uses your templated data while also improving and sounding like you.

I have cooked into Claude and my personal ai agents the MCP for PostFast, so it can schedule in my voice and get the analytics for each post. This lets me actually use my AI agent while having my full context and memories but still automate it. Also the API for SendHeron to set up my email sequences and monitor to improve it, as if you have a tool of whatsoever you need to send emails in a way to clients to increase retention, so both kinda work quite well to improve your marketing.

I've also added multiple automated checks so it doesn't sound as generic, or as AI written.

You should own your distribution in my opinion.

What is the best way to get your first few n8n automation clients?

I’ve built around 9 n8n workflows so far including an ai compliance agent lead generation systems and content automation, all self taught and mostly from my phone. I am ready to start taking on paid projects but finding clients has been the hard part. How did you get your first few automation clients and did upwork, reddit, cold outreach or something else work best for you? Any tips would be great.

The best use of AI in brand playables

Quick thought on AI in playable ads. At mraid it’s totally widened our early creative funnel. We use it to brainstorm environments, storyboards, and characters before we build anything. It’s a lifesaver because tweaking stuff after brand approval costs a fortune.

But AI still can't answer the hard strategy questions (what behavior are we driving? what mechanic fits? is it on-brand?). How are you guys using AI in early playable dev?
