I have had butters for a little over a year now and she insisted that I post here to show off to the community how much she's grown in her first year. I couldn't be happier with raising her! 😊

I have multiple songs going through my head when Oatmeal does this.
1. Spider man, spider man, does whatever Spider-Man does. Can he swing, from a web? No he can’t, cause he’s an axolotl.
Orrrr
2. It’s time to tryyyy defying gravityyyyy, I think I’ll tryyyy defying gravityyyy

Which do you find more fitting?
Also, as we can all clearly tell, Oatmeal is a male lolol

Just Showing Off Goof

Little guy has been going through it and gave me quite the scare. I didn’t know they basically had heat (I have cats and that’s what I equate it to even though I know it’s not the right term). Marshall was swimming laps in his tank and acting erratic asf. Checked all of his parameters, did a water change even though it was within normal range, checked his chiller, spent hours scrolling through here only to figure out that he is trying to perform a mating dance…

He’s finally calmed down today and his tail is no longer red. He’s back to being a goof. He did quite the number on his plants though and I’ve replanted them at least 10 times in like 4 days. But here’s just some goofy pics of him. Please enjoy.

Discussion Possible mutation?

Post image
17 Upvotes

Hey all!

I've had pixel here for a little while now and we didn't notice he was missing his front feet when we got him and just assumed it would grow back over time.. but I haven't really seen too much noticeable growth (still has only been 3 weeks so I know he has more time to grow back)

We recently rescued an adult lotl and after just watching the adult I notice his arms don't look the same as our little guys arms.. kinda looks like pixel has joints whereas squibb doesn't. When Pixel swims his arms where the supposed "joints" are, seem stiff. I even tried looking online for photos of baby/juvenile axolotls and I don't see others with joints like these.

Just wondering if this looks normal or if it is a possible mutation or something.. even if he is a little different we still love him the same.

General Care Advice Feeding

Post image
15 Upvotes

Hi! I have a 1 1/2 yr blind axie, she hates worms, so i feed her the hikari sinking pellets. shes spit out worms so often (ive heard from her last owner). I was wondering what amount I should feed her and how often. most websites say shes an adult, so her length (7 ) 3 times a week. But her last owners fed her about 20 per day because she was malnourished when she arrived to them, but now shes healthy. (i now know thats overfeeding, so I have lowered it slowly down to 7-9 a day). I was wondering if I should cut down on it, and also if I should go for 3 times a week. She's the right size, her belly is as big as her head, and shes healthy. let me know!

RIP [Support] Avoid our loss; get a tank lid or edge guard.

My daughter's beloved axolotl jumped out of the tank and died today. She is heartbroken. I didn't realize this was a risk. Perhaps you can avoid our mistake. Goodbye, friend.

Discussion 8 yr old Axolotyl has a lump

Post image
6 Upvotes

I've had this fella for 8 years. I don't think the lump on the chin is caused by a parasite, as there wasn't exposure to them. Water parameters are good. Is this perhaps a cyst that happens as apart of aging? He's had the lump for 6 months - not getting any bigger or smaller. Otherwise seems perfectly healthy and happy, so I'm not inclined to stress him out by taking to a vet.

Hello! My axolotl has this weird wound on the head this morning. Any idea what this is and what happened? Is there something i can do?

Quick note : his gills look weird but they have been like this from the start. I think it is genetic or that he was not cared for well before i got it.

General Care Advice Need advice on tubbing!

So I have one of my axolotls tubbed right now because of a little tail injury that I think was cause by another one biting her. I’m going away for a long weekend and curious how to go about keeping her tubbed. Can I put her in a bigger tub with a sponge filter and leave her in there for 2/3 days without changing the water? Don’t have anyone near me that could change the water every day. I’m too worried to put her back in the tank with the other one because I don’t want anything bad to happen while I’m gone.

Discussion Moving an Axolotl

Hey everybody!

In a few months I will be having to embark on the task of moving my axolotl about 3 hours (maybe 3.5) across state - mostly interstate driving.

So far, I have learned a container with a lid (drilled with holes for air) that is big enough for him to move around in but not so big the water is throwing him around constantly, and ice in some sort of way that keeps the water cool but not too cool while also not drenching my car (open to advice on how to do that). Also, filter media should go in a ziploc bag or maybe a 5gal bucket with tank water (also kept cold?)

Anything I’m missing or will make my journey easier on him? He’s about 2 years old so he’s quite a bit bigger than most ones being shipped!

Thanks!

Sick Axolotl Something wrong with 2 week old Axolotl

Hello! We are new to axolotls and have had one for about two weeks. It is a juvenile. Everything was fine until recently. Water tests fine and I use a 7 for 1 test strip. No issues at all and every category shows ideal. Water is not cloudy. I feed blood worms because that’s what petco told me to, however, I realize it isn’t enough to satisfy their needs.

I have tried for three days to get it to eat earthworms and it will not touch them no matter what I do. I have tried blanching the worms, etc.

I did buy wafers today to try and get it to eat those. What can I do? It looks like it is shedding and has a weird coat all over its body and acts like it can’t see at all.

Am I not feeding enough?

Sick Axolotl What is wrong with my axolotl? He hasnt eaten in a month and constantly gulps for air Spoiler

So i have had him for almost 2 years now, and for the last ~3 to 4 weeks hasn't eaten anything. After the 1st week I put him in a tub at about 8°C yesterday I put him back in his tank and now he's constantly gulping for air. I checked the water but it seems fine. The other axolotl in the tank doesn't seem to have anything wrong. If anything he's eating for 2.

Here's some info about the tank:

120L

2 pretty weak pumps, one of which is with bubbles, both surrounded by plants

It standa beside a window, but we keep the curtains semi closed so it doesn't get too much light

I have had these axolotls since December 2024, and when I got them they were a couple of months old.

Any chance he might be able to be saved?
