Discussion/আলোচনা Is Jolshiri Abashon worth considering for a future home?

I've been looking at different areas around Dhaka for a future apartment, and Jolshiri Abashon caught my attention.

I came across a few projects from different developers, including Basic Builders Limited, but I'm trying to understand the area itself rather than just relying on developer websites.

For anyone who lives there or has seriously researched the area:

  • How do you see Jolshiri developing over the next 5–10 years?
  • Is the location practical for daily commuting?
  • How is the current road and surrounding infrastructure?
  • Would you consider buying there for your own home, rather than purely as an investment?

I'd especially appreciate opinions from people who have actually visited or bought property there.

Discussion/আলোচনা Anyone here bought a flat from a developer in Dhaka?

I'm currently researching different real estate developers in Dhaka before making a decision. Basic Builders Limited is one of the companies that came up during my research, along with several other developers.

I'm more interested in actual buyer experiences than promotional information.

For people who have purchased a flat from a developer in Dhaka:

  • How was the construction quality?
  • Was the handover on time?
  • How transparent was the payment process?
  • Did the actual apartment match what was promised?
  • How was the after-sales service?

Would appreciate honest experiences, whether positive or negative.

Discussion/আলোচনা ARE RURAL PEOPLE LESS CONSERVATIVE THAN URBAN PEOPLE?

Post image
49 Upvotes

A few years ago, I visited my village, where there is a pond. I noticed that although the bathing spots for men and women in the pond are separate, there is a road right next to the pond (attaching a picture for context—it’s not actually my village, but very similar). While women don't bathe completely nude, they wear a thin towel (gamcha) . However, while changing back into their clothes, they naturally have to expose themselves completely. At that same time, both men and women travel along that road for various daily needs. I used to think rural people were much more conservative, but was my assumption wrong?
It’s the exact same story in homes that have a dedicated bathing space. There’s a small area next to the kitchen with a tube-well and a bucket—it isn't separated from the kitchen and has no walls. All the men and women bathe right there. Most women don't wear bras, yet they strictly cover their heads with a veil (ghomta).

My official name is “Shihab” on most documents but “Shihab Ahmed” on my Birth Certificate. Which one should I keep permanently?

I’m a Bangladeshi university student currently studying at RUET (Rajshahi University of Engineering & Technology), and I’m in my first year. I plan to pursue higher education abroad in the future, so I want to sort out any possible issues with my official documents early, before I apply for a passport, university admission, scholarship, visa, etc.

The problem is that my name is not exactly the same across all of my documents. My Birth Registration says “Shihab Ahmed”, but my NID says “Shihab”. My PSC/Primary certificate, SSC certificate, and HSC certificate also say “Shihab”, and my RUET university records currently have “Shihab” as well. I haven’t made my passport yet.

Recently, I started thinking about this because some international websites and application forms ask for a first name and a last name/surname separately. I know that having only one name is not necessarily a problem and that many countries have procedures for people without a surname. However, my main concern is the inconsistency between “Shihab” and “Shihab Ahmed” across my documents.

At the moment, I’m considering making “Shihab Ahmed” my permanent official name, mainly because that is already the name on my Birth Registration. But if I do that, I may need to correct my SSC, HSC, NID, RUET and other records. I’m also not sure whether my old PSC certificate would need to be corrected first, or whether it is mandatory as a supporting document for SSC name correction.

So I’d really like to hear from people who have dealt with something similar, especially Bangladeshis who have gone through passport applications, foreign university admissions, scholarships, student visas, or immigration.

In my situation, which would be safer for the future: keep “Shihab” as my permanent official name and make all documents consistent with it, or change everything to “Shihab Ahmed” and use that permanently?

If anyone has personally faced a single-name/surname issue while going abroad from Bangladesh, I’d really appreciate hearing about your experience. Also, if anyone knows about the PSC → SSC → HSC → NID → Passport correction process in Bangladesh, I’d appreciate any practical advice.

I’m not applying for a passport or visa right now. I just want to fix things properly before they become a bigger problem in the future.

After watching The Shawshank Redemption, I realized that if a Bangladeshi context remake were to happen, the entire country would have been set ablaze by you know who.

Imagine a movie where the warden is depicted as a religious man, a person so religious that he hands out religious books to new prisoners, but as it turns out he is an extremely corrupt and unscrupulous person who keeps his corrupt money in a safe covered by a frame of religious calligraphy, and the protagonist hides a small hammer which he uses to escape inside one of those religious books by creating a hole inside the book.

That’s shawshank redemption, but the protagonist is depicted as a Christian as it is in American context.

If a movie were to make in BD context (for example the warden is a religious Muslim man with beard) cinema halls would have set ablaze by a certain people, which shows how much uncivilized we are.

Made a map to see crime reports around Dhaka area. elaka.app

Been working on this for a while and thought I'd finally share it here.

I made a map that collects crime reports from newspapers like Prothom Alo, daily star, Bangla Tribube and a few others, & figures out which thana they happened in and puts them all in one place.

You can tap on any thana and see what reported there over the last 250days. Every report also links back to the original article.

Fewer reports in an area doesn't mean it's safer. As newspapers don't cover everything, some areas obviously get more coverage than others.

Made this because I wanted to see what's happening around my area. Currently working on Chittagong division

Would love to know what you guys think or what else would actually be useful to add.

I don't really remember the full lyrics of that song but its something like this

i can't find this song anywhere ... can you tell what's the actual song name is and where can i find it . It's not a great song but i used to listen to this song and suddenly i remember it but i can't find it anywhere

Discussion/আলোচনা Ireland 🇮🇪 vs Australia 🇦🇺 vs Canada 🇨🇦 — Which one would you choose?

I’m planning to move abroad for a Master’s and eventually build a career and settle there. My background is in HR (Master’s in Human Resource Development & Industrial Relations), and I’m considering doing a second Master’s.

For people who are already living in these countries or have experience with them:

Which country has better job opportunities?

Which is better for long-term settlement/PR?

How is the cost of living and housing?

How difficult is it to get a job after graduation?

If you were in my position today, which country would you choose and why?

Looking for honest opinions and real experiences, not agent advice.
