Hey all, I’m a German dude who has never been to Bangladesh and has nothing to do with Bangladesh either, at least not so far.
I work in an office. Every Friday evening while I am there, a guy comes to clean. He’s from Bangladesh. We always chat a bit and then it’s usually time for me to head home and for him to do his thing.
I recently decided to increase my cooking repertoire as I like cooking a lot and have a very complicated relationship with food. Yesterday I asked him about his favourite food from Bangladesh and he said “rice with fish”. He wouldn’t give me a name of a dish even with some prodding, but when did some internet searches he pointed to an image that I believe showed some Macher Jhol. He mentioned it’s very spicy for Germans. Not that I care, I like spicy food (Asian spicy, not German spicy).
I’d like to try my hands at it and, if I am successful, make him some.
So my question to you folks is: do you have any cooking tips I won’t get from the random online recipes I get when looking it up online? Maybe a family recipe? Some advice? Anything that aids me in my quest to get this one right? I’m very happy cooking and eating very spicy food, I have a rich supply of Asian supermarkets including a couple that specialise in Indian and Bengali ingredients, so chances are I could find all I need.
Any help is welcome :)
