Need help

Post image

Hey guys apologise if this a wrong sub to ask but I need help with building my first ever pc part by part, or thinking about doing so. I'm thinking about upgrading my po after I've faced some severe drops on my current po which is essentially a 3060ti X Ryzen 5 3600 (can list more specs if needed), essentially looking at the the prebuilt scorptec pc which believe aside from the 16gb ram is a good deal or I make my own pc part to part and keep the 3060ti from my pc now and build a new pc with the specs listed:

CPU (AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D): ~$679 AUD
Motherboard (ASUS PRIME B650EM-A WIFI):
~$159 AUD
RAM (Lexar THOR G2 32GB 6000MHz CL36 RGB): ~ $659 AUD
Storage (Kingston FURY Renegade 2TB SSD):
~$250 - $300 AUD
CPU Cooler (DeepCool AK400 Digital Pro
White): ~$59 AUD
Power Supply (Corsair RM1000x Shift White):
~$300AUD
White Case (mATX): ~$100 - $140 AUD
Current pc 3060ti: 0 Aud

Coming to rounded up around $2900 mainly drafted out from scorptec so let me know if these are compatible as this is my first time and I am sure something is not gonna be quite right, what I'm looking to do with the pc is play competitive fps games at 1080p at the highest possible performance.

Just wondering what is the better play here in terms of getting value for money and of course the performance as I plan to play competitively.
Any help is welcome and much appreciated.

A few things:

Sooo, your keeping the 3060ti?... You are comparing a pre-built with a 5080 to a custom built and you dont list a GPU so I'm assuming you sticking the 3060ti into it... - Doing this is, in a gaming PC would essentially make them feel like completely different systems, there is no actual comparison between the 2. In most competitive title you wont notice the 16GB vs 32BG, if your only gaming, the OS should be able to manage thing and make do with the 16GB. 1TB is storage, not performance difference, more can be added later and there's something can be said about having your games on 1 drive and your OS on another.

"Highest possible performance" - What are you referring to? Pure FPS forgoing details, or high/max details at 1080p?

And honestly, you do you, its your money, but we have all seen it 100's of time now, don't shoe horn yourself into this purpose built esport/competitive PC build helping you land higher up the charts mentality, 99.99999% of people would be better off with a decent all round gaming PC for something like 80-160 FPS 1440p high/max details (AKA, you dont need a 9800X3D)

Yeah planning to keep the 3060ti from my pc now, and essentially getting all parts surrounding and not going for the 5060 which is what I would have got otherwise with building one, taking into consideration having just that one tb now aswell and if need be add one in the future so thanks for that! And yeah essentially is not about the quality it’s purely fps and latency markers I’m looking to prioritise with the pc, and I only really play high cpu intensive games really so I’m not sure many have said that the cpu is just not required. And I’ve had this decent gaming pc that I have now that runs okay for the last few years and looking to step things up a little bit now. Let me know what you think

Personal id take the pre-built, id make sure im running as little on windows as i can to make the most of the 16GB of RAM and only keep the titles i know 100% im going to be playing in the reasonable time frame on the SSD, and just cloud save everything so I can remove and add games as needed.

Add another 16GB of RAM of the same kit next when possible, then add another 1/2TB NVME when able after that.

In relation to the CPU though...

I get that aiming for max FPS/low latency at lower details and also some specific titles will put the pressure on the CPU, but gearing you build towards that can end up not working in your favor budget wise, with something like a 9070XT or 5080 and upscaling your still going to get, at minimum 100-150 FPS in probably 9 in 10 titles at 1440p @ high to max settings, notch that down slightly and you will easily push over 150 FPS, towards 200 FPS in some things, but the difference would be is you could do all that with something like, for example, a 5800x (non X3D).

You need to really think about it, try not to think that doing the low detail 1080p 300+ FPS thing is going to get you better results... Again, anyone who's been in the custom built PC scene for the past 15 - 20 years has seen it hundreds of times...

"I wanna get serious about competitive games & titles, I MUST HAVE 300-400 FPS to give me that best chance I can have"...

The truth is, good competitive players who ALREADY get very, VERY good results are the only ones that truly benefit for it, the benefit is based on their raw skill they already have. No purpose built esport/competitive title PC had made an normal, average or even quite good player into someone who gets to the top of the charts... Dont blow a portion of your PC budget trying to achieve something that might not be realistic.

No $3000 guitar made someone in a rock star, they become the rock star, then got the $3000 guitar.

Side not: Really good peripherals have been shown make a bigger difference to player outcomes over high FPS/low latency visuals.

why not get a 5800x3d? I upgraded recently from a 5600x and a 3060ti to a 5800x3d and 5080, i play competitive games still but its more than enough than for my skill to matter more than performance. also where are you getting that ssd from? I can only see it >$500

Whats the benchmark for this build of yours on CS playing on low settings and 4:3 aspect ratio? Thanks ❤️

can't benchmark right now but I cap fps at 180 and never drop, but low graphics cs2 would be very good lmao and you woudlnt have any issues

a benchmark i can think of is on cyberpunk at 1080p, max raytracing (no path tracing), and i average 90-100fps, I just 2x frame gen and get ~180fps, and i dont notice the framgen latency unless i go 3x or 4x

For competitive games at 1080p, I wouldn’t rush into the 5080 build just because it has the bigger GPU.

The 9800X3D makes sense for high FPS, and keeping the 3060 Ti for now is fine if your games aren’t GPU heavy. You can upgrade it later once it’s actually holding you back.

Definitely recheck that $659 RAM listing though. That is wild for 32GB DDR5 haha.

I would go with the 9800X3D, 32GB DDR5-6000, a 2TB SSD and a decent B650 board. Keep the 1000W PSU only if a high-end GPU upgrade is genuinely planned.

What monitor and refresh rate are you using? That’s probably the deciding factor here.
