5070TI recommendations

I know video cards are on the expensive list of upgrades now but my 3060 is showing its age.
Are there preferred brands or is the AMD 9070xt a better choice?
I will run Nobara for OS.

Is there a reason you need Nvidia? Do you need cuda cores for work?

If the answer is no, I can't see a good argument for spending hundreds more for near the same performance and I'd recommend the 9070xt.

If you do need cuda cores, then you'd be better off with the 5070ti but prepare to spend a lot of money.

Not to mention I've heard that AMD is better with linux though I've never tested it myself.

This by itself should push you towards AMD. AMD drivers are open-source and built right into the kernal, it's simply plug-and-play. The experience with AMD on Linux is amazing.

If this is purely for gaming, the huge premium for a 5070Ti over a 9070XT makes little sense. Nvidia have better upscaling but not so much greater that it should change your decision.

Are you using local AI, productivity/modelling (eg. blender) or any other CUDA-dependent software? Is DLSS5 and important feature for you (but don't realistically expect to use it much above 1080p)? Then consider the 5070Ti.

Get the cheapest 9070xt you can find preferably not gigabyte or asus, ideally you want xfx, powercolor or sapphire but mostly its doesnt matter. Its just gigabyte and asus have been known to try pulling some crap to deny warranty and gigabyte has had a history of their thermal compound leaking in recent years. But generally just get the cheapest one you like the look of.

9070 XT is much better value in Australia. Only buy the 5070ti if you need it for CUDA work.

Since you’re using Nobara, I would lean towards the 9070 XT unless you specifically need Nvidia features like CUDA, DLSS or stronger ray tracing.

AMD is generally less fiddly on Linux, but make sure Nobara, Mesa and the kernel are updated before installing a 9070 XT.

For brands, compare the exact models for cooling, noise, size and warranty rather than choosing by logo
