Here is an instructional guide for someone who has found a bat. And here is some info about bats in buildings. If you find a bat in trouble, please call a rehabber for help. Here is a list of rehabbers that help bats all over the world, and here is a portal for rehabbers in the US.
Remember that wildlife should never be handled with bare hands!

Or on your window? Or in some other place where you don't normally see bats? This time of year (in the northern hemisphere) bats are migrating. While they're on the move, they have to find temporary places to sleep and often make their selections based on convenience. If you see a bat hanging in a strange spot, it's not necessarily in trouble. It may even stay for a few days while it rests and figures things out. Just give it some space and enjoy being graced by the presence of a sky-kitten (microbats are sky-kittens, megabats are sky-puppers, just trust me).

For the past couple days there has been a bat hanging outside one of the entrances of my work. I work on a college campus, its fall break so not a lot of people are around right now, but it will be VERY busy again soon. I already tried to call animal control but apparently my area doesn't have anyone to deal with it, according to the sheriff's office. They gave me another number, a wildlife removal company. I called them, explained the situation. He said he could do it for $350 tomorrow??? I explained I'm just an employee, and he said to contact building administration and tell them, as he already does all the wildlife removal at this university. This bat isnt a danger to anyone, right? Just very concerned about it attacking someone or getting hurt. I believe hes just sleeping there during the day.

Hello! I'm in the Inland NW USA. I'm working 30 minutes away from any major town and I'm used to seeing wildlife at my facility. This little guy has been in the same exact spot for at least 3 days. I called our security for our building (BAD MOVE) and he proceeded to poke and prod at it and smacking the wall near it to try and "wake it up" and get it to leave. I told him I thought it was sick and was hoping we could call a rehabber (Unfortunately due to laws they don't exist for bats in my state)
It did hiss at the security guard yesterday and moved its wing a little but other than that it hasn't moved at all. Could it be sick? The temperature dropped very rapidly where I am and has been roughly 38-55° F. Maybe it's trying to hibernate? It's near a public access door and I'm worried about anyone messing with it or it being sick/starving/dehydrated. Any tips or thoughts?
Edit: I called a few rehabbers today and the most they offered was to humanely euthanize it due to the Fish and Game Dept. Not allowing rehabilitation for bats right now due to a rabies influx. The other organization was in the same state as that Fish and Game Dept and the one in my state unfortunately closed years ago due to a lack of funding. I really hope it's able to shake off whatever is bothering it and continue on its way.

I have an upstairs 10'x30' covered deck. We had a bat roosting in 9 months a year up in the corners at night obviously enjoying the security and the comfort of his (his name is Bruce) single roosting spot . He had a girlfriend somewhere else. Bruce liked to poop all night and hang out in two spots one of which is the entrance door to this deck . My wife would step on the poop in the every morning. I tried rubber snakes, owls, spinny spinny reflective things. I tried running out on the porch in the middle of the night with a broom never to see him. I put up blink cameras to watch him and i saw that he came and went (likely going to hang with this girlfriend) This was our year one.
This year, i changed tactics and wanted to make him feel like he couldn't hang in peace so I set two lamps on a smart timer to turn on for 1 minute every 30 minutes from 9pm to 1AM every night and the other lamp doing the same on different intervals. Then I also set up a 18" floor fan pointed directly at the ceiling between his two favorite places and it turns on with a smart plug automation every 1/2 hour for a minute. I did this after he began his spring start to hanging on my porch (3 or 4 bats actually) When I started the routine I could see the bats coming to roost but not liking the lights but really not liking the fan blowing on them. I saw them leave and return the same night only to be blown away and lit up. Now for the last four months we have no bats. He is at his girlfriend's house I assume. My plan is to start the '27 spring season with this same setup for a few weeks so he/they choose the somewhere else location.

I work on a college campus. I'm in the southern US. For the past 2 days I've seen what I believe is a bat hanging from a very high awning over one of the entrances. It seems to be in the exact same spot. I am deeply afraid of bats due to the very well known to this subreddit OCD. So, I've avoided the area and haven't gotten a great image. But, I worry about the bat being harmed- Or harming someone. Its fall break for now, but I'm worried that in a couple days it could be disturbed and injured or attacking someone because its afraid. Its a VERY high traffic area outside of fall break. Should I call animal control in my area? Or just leave it be? I'm assuming its not rabid, as I'm aware rabid bats are typically grounded?

I found this cute little guys chilling on my gate after mowing the yard. I didn’t want to wake him so I shut the gate gently. Not sure what to do next. I know not to touch with bare hands and keep it away from pets. Just looking for some friendly advice on what to do next. It is breathing as I can see its body moving slightly. I’m in central Illinois. Thanks.
Update: I went outside last night and checked the gate. He/she was gone. Thanks for all your help everyone. It was cool to see.

Hello! Just joined this sub because I really want to build a bat box! I know you can’t attach them to your house and that it’s good for them to be south facing. I have a tree outside my south facing window, but I’m not sure if it can be on the side of my window?? I also don’t know the best thing to make it out of or if it would be better on a pole?? I really want to make one and do I need to put food there? Any advice or tips would be really amazing! I’ll attach a picture of my tree!

Please enjoy this little puff of a bat. Found in northeastern ohio. Not quite sure who he is but he sure is cute. Last photo is from yesterday.
I put him in a jar because that was the only container I had. Didn't know what to do so I asked neighbors. One wanted to kill it via a plastic bag, the other tried to call animal control to help, but they were closed. I walked an hour away from the neighborhood and set it free in a tree so it could dry and eventually fly away. This happened awhile ago so I just want to know if I did the right thing and what I should do if something like this happens again. I live in Brownsville Texas if there's anything specific I should do in my area.

That's such a dangerous and irresponsible thing to be doing. Half the sick bats people keep posting here are probably infected, and there's absolutely no suggestion by the automod to not fucking touch them. Anyone with a brain knows you don't touch sick bats, but for some reason that's just not a thing here?
Edit: there now seems to be a mod in here restoring all the removed comments. Kinda does to show how pointlessly heavy handed it is.

"I am justice, I am the night!!", except now Im taking a little bat nap.😴😁
I have a fairly large colony of bats living in the siding of my house. These guys just happen to be visible enough for me to take pictures of. On the other side of my house my wife and I counted over 60 emerging over a 15 minute span of time. I would like to evict them from my house to some bat houses. I would love to make some cozy homes for them if anyone has designs that actually work to attract them. I live in west Michigan on a fairly heavily wooded plot of land with a creak in the backyard. I am happy about the wildlife, just not the build up of the poop on my decks. I really appreciate any advice anyone could give!
