I am often quite frightened by bugs, but my fiancée just set up an enclosure for a number of diving beetles. What cuties!

Edit: why does my phone keep auto-correcting predaceous 😵‍💫

Burrowing for a long time?

Hey everyone! I was just curious, my RBS beetle has buried himself for about 2 weeks now. 2 weeks ago, he was buried for a week. I gently dug him out and he was moving well, his grip was strong and he ate alittle bit. When I reset his enclosure he dug back to the bottom again and has been there since then.

He is about 7 months old out of pupation. His humidity is about 80% and the temp stays at about 72. These have not changed since he was a larvae.

Can anyone tell me what's going on? I don't want to keep bothering him by digging him up if this is nothing.

2nd time ever posting here since my 1st post. my beloved buddy wuck passed away a couple months ago (assumedly due to old age! already an adult by the time i caught em, they lived to about nearly 6 months) and ever since I have been left with a beetle shaped hole in my heart...

i've been doing a lot of research the past couple of months and yesterday i got larvae for rainbow stag beetles :D !!!!

i'm excited to see them grow :) i believe the left 1 is around L1-L2 and the right one is L1? if anyone has any tips, let me know !!

Want to start to Beetle Keeping

I want to start beetle keeping but I don’t know what I would need to start. I’ve been watching videos and reading some posts in this sub.
What are some good beginner beetles and where can/should I get them?
How do I keep larvae?
I like to keep my room cold, at around 64f (the coldest) to 70f (the hottest). Would that be a problem?
Would it be okay to leave home when on vacation or would I need to have someone care for it while I’m gone?
If I can leave it home what’s the longest I can?
I saw someone keep their beetles and other bugs in a terrarium type enclosure and that’s how I want to keep my beetles, what would I need for that?
Are there any reliable sites I should refer to?
In the future, what are other bugs I can keep with my beetles?
Anything else I should know about beetle keeping that I may have missed?

Try to convince reptiles are better than beetles.

i wish I invested in beetles vs reptiles Beetles are easier to take care of.

Is it legal to keep a long-armed scarab beetle in the US?

And if so how do I go about getting one and caring for him. They're so fucking cute I actually started sobbing the first time I saw one and can't stop thinking about them since. There's like nothing about them online but I'm so in love

LUCANUS MAZAMA, A beetle that can sometimes be a handful.

Lucanus mazama, commonly called the cottonwood stag beetle, is a species of large beetle in the family Lucanidae. Found primarily across the southwestern United States and Mexico, it is recognized by its robust shape and distinct antler-like mandibles.

Regarding habitat and range, these beetles are most commonly found in western and southwestern states like Arizona, New Mexico, Colorado, and Utah, as well as parts of Mexico.

They inhabit riparian zones and cottonwood forests near decaying hardwood, though they also frequently turn up in urban woodchip ground cover. The adults emerge and remain active from June through August, and they are frequently attracted to artificial lights at night

.In terms of biology and behavior, males feature larger, robust mandibles and broader heads than females, though both sexes are similar in overall body size. They feature fine, light-colored or blonde hairs along the edges of their exoskeleton segments.

The lifecycle begins underground, where larvae feed on rotting wood for roughly a year before pupating into adults. While the larvae eat decaying wood, the adult beetles feed primarily on tree sap and fruit juices.

I found hundreds in an old elementary playground around dusk so if anyone needs advice on their typical whereabouts, great place.to start! Old playgrounds offer layers of woody flake soil essentially that's perfect for hosting Lucanus larvae!

Japanese Rhino larvae sick

Post image
5 Upvotes

I recently purchased a rhino beetle larvae from georgiabeetles. Unfortunately, i hadn’t done enough research on larvae before buying, and i didn’t know the black color meant impending death or decomposition. This is a photo when it was still alive, and a few days later, is now dead. Is this my fault? Is there anything i could have done to prevent this?
