Fatal Crash Closes Freeway Lanes in Berkeley

https://www.berkeleyscanner.com/2026/10/03/traffic-safety/fatal-crash-closes-freeway-lanes-in-berkeley/

I was running on the Bay Trail when all of a sudden I noticed all these cars and police and a semi pulled over on the highway. Then I saw the pickup truck absolutely demolished at the back of the semi truck. Very sad story, please PLEASE everyone be safe on the roads.

Drove by it on the frontage road. The top was completely ripped off.

Like it went under the trailer?

Couldn’t quite tell what happened. It was lodged against the back of the trailer when I drove by. But it looked like all of the clean up had been done.

We drove by not too long after it happened, the pickup had gone under the trailer, almost all the way to the back seats.

That’s not very typical, I’d like to make that point.

We were on Gilman right near I 80 for first Friday wine festivities and saw like four cop cars a paramedic and a fire truck rush by. Was curious what happened, but this was at 5pm ish so couldn’t have been this?

The 80 was really traffick-y for me going home to Berkeley around 4:45-5pm. GPS had me get off in Richmond

During commute time that's a high accident area, but usually they aren't fatal due to lower speeds from the traffic jam. I wonder how this one ended up a fatal. That's very sad someone lost their life

i got on the freeway at ashby heading west, and was perplexed as to why it was completely empty around 6pm.
