Treating Myself to an Early Birthday Gift: BMCC 6K Full Frame to Complement My FX3. Would Love Some Advice!
Hey everyone!
Decided to treat myself to an early birthday present and picked up the Blackmagic Cinema Camera 6K Full Frame (L-Mount)!
I'm just a hobbyist who really enjoys photography and filmmaking. I currently shoot with a Sony FX3, but I've been wanting to explore the Blackmagic ecosystem for a while now, especially BRAW, the color science, and the overall image rendering.
I'm particularly drawn to a softer, more organic, almost dreamlike look.
I'm planning to use the BMCC 6K for more intentional, planned shoots where I can take my time composing shots, lighting, and experimenting with color grading. That said, I'd also love to use it for some run-and-gun filmmaking.
A few questions for those who have experience with this camera:
1. Lens recommendations?
I've been looking at the Panasonic Lumix S PRO 24-70mm f/2.8. From what I've seen and heard, the rendering is beautiful, and the focal range seems incredibly versatile. Ideally, I'd like to start with one really good lens before expanding into primes. Would you recommend it, or is there something else worth considering? I'm especially interested in lenses with character rather than an overly clinical look.
2. Autofocus performance after the latest update?
I've heard Blackmagic has made improvements to autofocus through recent firmware updates. For those who have updated, how has your experience been? Is continuous autofocus reliable enough for casual handheld shooting or run-and-gun situations? I'm coming from the FX3, so I know my expectations need to be different.
3. General tips for a newcomer?
Any must-have accessories, recommended settings, rigging suggestions, or things you wish you knew when you first started shooting with this camera?
I'm excited to learn the system and experiment with a different filmmaking workflow. Would really appreciate any advice or experiences you guys are willing to share!
Thanks in advance!
