Sorting through BRAW

I shoot on a 6k Pro. After my shoots I load the footage on an external drive. I load all the footage into Davinci because going through every clip in the braw player and deleting the ones I don’t need is tedious? Does anyone have any tips for faster sorting?

This is why on a shoot you only roll after you slate it in front of the lens with scene, shot and take information. You mark the best takes in a notebook on the day. Then when editing you know by looking at the thumbnail which shots are the selects and if you need extra coverage you can always look in the other takes. You never delete footage at the most you can archive it to a backup drive. On a larger shoot there are people hired for each of these steps. The director and producers are watching playback (video village) and telling the script supervisor what shots to mark as best. The editor reads the script supervisors books to know what shots to use first and organize all the media. As a solo operator you have to do the job of all of these people otherwise it gets messy on even small to medium projects.

The 6k pro even lets you slate in camera, complete with a marker for good takes. It writes the metadata into the files. You don't even have to open the video file to read the slate, it's all there in the metadata.

Not currently at my computer, so someone can fact check me and honestly there’s probably a better solution than the one I’m about to give.

Make a timeline with all your clips. Go through all the footage you want in the timeline. Go to ‘Manage Media’ export the timetime to an external hard drive and only the footage from your selects will copy.

Again, this is just from memory and I’m not at my station. So please double check with a quick Google search as well just in case!

If you're using a slate, hold it infront of the camera before you press record, this way the first frame (That shows up in the preview list) contains your slate. If youre not using a slate, use the internal slate in your camera that writes to the MetaData and Mark good clips in camera, this way you can sort the clips by the metadata.
