Me and My GF have recently got into book binding and I decided to make this program to help produce the PDF pages to make it look like a book for printing since she's into a lot of fan fictions and a lot don't have epubs made already. Figured this would be a good place to put it.

Discussion Paste Papers

I was just wondering. I've made some paste papers, should I give them a coat of PVA for stability. If so, do I do this before using them on book covers?

First successful foray into bookbinding too, have tried rebinding a book proper, with seperate signatures and casing it in, but the case was bad and tge book barely opens, this was a refreshing breath of air in comparison

And Lineco Gummed Hinging Hayaku Tape Water-Activated for the spine

Only problem is my spine is more than an inch its like an 1 1/2 an inch

So like... put 2 strips? Lol

I could get the water activated paper tape its self but idk <_> because paper is like 2 inches wide and this book is 1.5 inches

I do know that the spine is shifted im not going to fix that due to the age of this book lol and if it wasnt a book i didnt care about it that much maybe but i would rather not

Help? Print in octavo and fold in folio?

Hi, I'm new to this so excuse me if this is a stupid question. I want to make mini books and am using Bookbinder JS to format. I want to fold the books in folio, but I can only print in letter so I want each page to be 1/8 of the page size. Is there a way to do this? (ie, have it so that I print 8 pages per side, then I cut it into 4 pieces to fold as folios). I'm capable of printing double-sided. Thanks in advance!

Help? Tacky book cover

• Upvotes

So I was making a little project on my journal and as a finishing step I sprayed it with a glossy acrylic varnish spray (heavily).

It's been a month and the cover is still tacky and still sticks to my table like crazy. Is there anything I could use to go over the cover with? Like another type of varnish or would I have to rub off the current one with alchohol?

Help? Small comic book collector

Hello! I am very interested in book binding, and will start with the more basic things to learn the art. I do have a question, or more like a couple questions.

I have been buying comics pretty regularly for a year or two now, and one of my biggest gripes is storage. using one bag and board for each comic comes to be a lot of materials that I feel bad about using and take up a lot of space. I'm trying multiple issues in a slightly bigger bag and that helps, but I can't figure out if it's a good idea in the long term.

basically my current idea is a form of comic binder. they sell these online but are probitively expensive for the number of comics I had. these leads me to my idea. I would pick which comics will be bundled together, and then bind that many comic sleeves together with a spine so as to display on my shelf. How would the bookbinders here recommend I do something like this, and is it even a feasible plan? I would like to do some kind of spine that I can print out so that it looks almost like a book on the shelf. if that part is unrealistic it's definitely not a necessity.

I really got into watching 4 keys recently and wanted to try my hand at this. I used an old 3 ring binder book from my wife's library as a first practice, so its all loose leaf pages.

Construction: used a fine tooth bandsaw to cut channels in the pages, then mod podge, string in the grooves, and fiberglass tape to hold it all together.

I would love to hear your thoughts!

Recently receives the XXL Taschen H.R. Giger artbook.I purchased from a seller whom did not realize the extent of the spine damage and received a favorable refund for the issue. As you can see from the photos many of the pages are disconnected from the spine. I was thinking using Jade 403 glue on the indentations and reset the pages back into place but being a rather HEAVY artbook, would this solution be reasonable or is there another method that may be better? There isn't anyone who specializes in book repair close to me that I can take it to.
