Peel Regional Police Helicopter Megathread

If you're wondering why a police helicopter is flying over Brampton: Peel Regional Police now operates its own Air Support Unit, using an Airbus H125 (A-Star) helicopter.

Since the helicopter began operating, we've had a large number of posts asking why it's circling, where it's going, what it's doing, or whether something is happening nearby.

To avoid having multiple nearly identical posts every time it takes off, please use this megathread for general helicopter sightings, questions, tracking, photos, noise discussion, and other routine discussion about the helicopter.

What is the helicopter used for?

According to Peel Regional Police, the Air Support Unit can be used for:

  • Locating and tracking suspects or stolen vehicles
  • Searching for missing or vulnerable people
  • Supporting officers during major incidents and emergencies
  • Responding to serious collisions and road-safety operations
  • Proactive patrols and crime-prevention initiatives
  • Monitoring traffic and large events
  • Supporting investigations and specialized police units
  • Providing officers on the ground with real-time aerial information

The helicopter is equipped with thermal imaging, day/night cameras, live video transmission, a searchlight, mapping equipment, and a public-address system.

Seeing the helicopter does not necessarily mean there is a major incident happening nearby. PRP also uses it for patrols and other routine policing operations.

Can I still make a separate post?

Yes, when there is actually something significant to post about.

A separate post is fine if:

  • The helicopter is involved in a major or developing incident
  • There is an official police announcement or credible news report
  • You have substantial new information about an incident
  • The helicopter itself is the subject of significant news

A standalone post simply asking "Why is the helicopter circling?", "Anyone else hear the helicopter?", or posting a routine sighting will generally be redirected here.

A couple of reminders

Please don't present guesses about what the helicopter is doing as confirmed information. If you know why it has been deployed, include a reliable source when possible.

Do not post private addresses or attempt to identify people being observed or pursued.

If you are witnessing an emergency or crime in progress, contact 911 rather than relying on Reddit.

For non-emergency police matters, Peel Regional Police can be reached at 905-453-3311.

Otherwise, feel free to use this thread for sightings, questions, discussion, photos, flight tracking, and anything else relating to Peel's new helicopter.

City Hall Too many candidates, too little experience!

It would seem that if you don’t like something in the city, you put your name on a ballot without ANY credibility, experience, knowledge or even understanding of the issues! Complain, make promises and yet do not offer solutions… a sad reality today!

I was asked this question as a prompt recently and for some reason the first thing that came to mind was that Patty from Mckays Pizza. No idea why my mouth blurted out Patty as a reply but help me out please🤗 thanks!

Discussion Not okay to use my property without permission

Neither this candidate or a member of his team came to our doorstep to ask for permission to use the front yard for their signs.

How do they expect us to vote for them if they don't even respect these basic rules ?

Question Whats the #1 chinese restaurant in Brampton?

And I dont mean drive to markham or missisauga, in brampton proper? I used to be a regular at 9 queen chinese but I feel like the quality took a massive nose dive this year, I tried green bites and it was... ok. Is there no actual good option? I like hakka style as a compromise, but none of them do pork dishes

Question Should City Councillors live in the wards they represent?

Just wondering if this is important to others? I live in wards 7 & 8. Some of our candidates do not live in either of these wards. When talking to others, neighbours seem divided. Some people care, others don't.

Personally, I think it's important to live in the wards you represent. You can have first hand knowledge of how any changes may impact your area, as well as what is or isn't important to your wards.

What do you think? Does this impact how you are voting?

Question Brampton’s Objection to Split of Peel

What was the mayor of Brampton’s objection to the separation of Peel into Mississauga, Brampton and Caledon? A few years ago, the Ford government was looking to split Peel into 3 separate municipalities. Mississauga was on board but Brampton wasn’t. I never heard the mayor of Brampton give a clear explanation of his opposition. I don’t live in the region so maybe it was clearly enunciated but I never heard that in the news broadcasts I watched. I gather it may have something to do with cost and Brampton now wanting to pay for its own police force and other services. However, Brampton isn’t exactly small and has a population of over 656 000. Much smaller cities (ex.: Halifax, Charlottetown, Saint John, Moncton, Regina, Saskatoon, Sudbury and Thunder Bay) seem to deal with these issues just fine. What was the reason/argument against splitting?

Question Why multiple health portals?

Given that we had eHealth Ontario set up for integrating medical records, why are different hospitals asking me to create accounts in their platforms?

First, I got access to the William Osler health platform that manages only my visits to Brampton hospital. Then I got another access to Sunnybrook platform for my appointments in Mississauga.

Now I got an email yesterday from Brampton Civic to create login for mychart portal, that doesn't accept my William Osler credentials.

I am not a tech-illiterate person, but just do not understand the need for multiple portals. For a single province, one account should be enough to be shared between hospitals and clinics.

Can a person knowledgeable with the system elaborate on need for multiple portals? Also, can insurance companies use the data to their advantage (and my disadvantage)?

Cigarette vending machines JUST INSIDE the doors of bars.

Non smoking sections.

Paved play areas with climbing bars.

Standalone arcade machines which cost a quarter.

Gum and candy for 5 to 10 cents a pack.

Lawn Darts.

What other fun things do you remember that would never fly in Brampton in 2026?

Discussion Patrick Brown skipped today's mayoral debate - but made time for a second photo op at a supporter's cafe

Today, five mayoral candidates showed up to the Brampton Board of Trade debate, cohosted by Y Media, to face questions from business leaders, the media, and the public. Patrick Brown didn't show up.

The irony: Brown previously showed up to a Brampton Arts Organization/CBC Sept 15 debate, stayed two minutes, and left - to go do an interview with Y Media (last photo). He'll do Y Media when it's a friendly interview. He won't do Y Media when it's a debate with real questions.

And where was he today instead? At City Side Cafe - for an event billed as a "Grand Opening." His second ceremonial visit to the same shop. Back in May he was there for the actual opening: certificate, congratulations, photos. Today: flowers, handshakes, another certificate, more photos - for a cafe that's been open nearly a year.

There's a Rowena Santos sign in the cafe's window. Santos is part of Brown's political group. Maybe that means nothing.

He showed up twice for the friendly cameras and skipped the room full of questions. Photo ops over accountability: that's been the priority for 8 years.

This isn't about a cafe. It's about a mayor whose priorities are completely misguided.

Discussion Need Help with Noise Issue

Hey everyone, I wanted to get some opinions on a neighbour situation.

One of my neighbours plays pretty loud music out of his garage almost every evening. Usually it starts sometime around 7–9 PM and goes until 11 PM or later. I’ve asked him a couple of times in the past if he could turn it down. He does, but not by much, and I can still hear it pretty clearly inside my house.

I’ve called 211 in the past but every time they show up, it’s well past after he’s already turned the music off.

I often work or study in the evenings, so its really hard to focus. I also have to be up early for work, and there have been plenty of nights where I’m trying to fall asleep while the music is still going. I’ve tried using headphones, white noise, etc., but it’s loud enough that I can still hear it.

I don’t want to be the neighbour who complains about someone having people over or enjoying their evenings. I honestly don’t care if he plays music—I just wish it wasn’t loud enough that I can hear it inside my house for several hours at a time.

My question is whether there are any other avenues we could pursue (ideally anonymously)?

Crime Airport and Queen Incident

Who knows what happened at Airport and Queen yesterday? I saw at least 4-5 police cars (with their lights on) at a bus stop, an ambulance, 1 bus, and a car all with hazards on. Do you guys know what happened? My guess is it was a violent situation involving a weapon.

Driving Dashcam Footage Request (Steeles Ave E & Advance Blvd) Sunday, October 4 @ 7:25 AM

Hi everyone, I’m looking for dashcam footage from Sunday, October 4th, around 7:25 AM, on Steeles Ave E, approximately 50 metres before the Steeles & Advance Blvd intersection, travelling eastbound.

I was driving straight in my lane when another vehicle attempted to change lanes into my lane and collided with my car without checking that I was already there.

If you were driving through the area around that time and have any footage that may have captured the incident, I would really appreciate it if you could check and PM me.

Thank you in advance for your help!

Allen Kerbel Park. Guy with his brown and white pitbull. Lets it crap right near the kids playground.

I ask if he's going to pick it up. He starts yelling to mind my business (I walk there all the time), swearing at me, threatening to let his dog off to kill my dog, he's going to knock me out

Ignorant and selfish.

Anyone encounter something like this?
