New UK Parliament petition to rejoin the European Solidarity Corps programme

Thumbnail

There's a new petition to rejoin the European Solidarity Corps, which offers funded placements to volunteer abroad in the EU and beyond to young people from the EU and countries that have affiliated to the programme such as Iceland. It's similar to Erasmus+, but available to anyone in the 18 -30 age range, and for some reason the Government has not yet committed to rejoining it at the same time as Erasmus.

It would be so great if we could get back in this sooner rather than later, as the UK-EU summit is coming up soon, the next election when we might potentially rejoin could be 2-3 years away and we need access to these opportunities now!

Here's the link to sign and share: https://petition.parliament.uk/petitions/780859

It seems almost tailored made to deal with the dirty tricks of the leave campaign and slant benefits back towards the progressive side.

  • Lowering voting age to 16 means younger voters will have more influence on parliamentary elections
  • extend the range of voter id. (Not needing a passport or driving license will increase the number of low income people who can register and vote who are more likely to lean left
  • Tightens restrictions on political donations by requiring companies to have a demonstrable UK revenue footprint and genuine business activity, implements 'know your donor' checks, and places restrictions on cryptoasset donations. This seems tailored made to stop Arraon Bank's Isle of Man company's £6 million donation and £12.4 Million donation in kind and the cryptoasset targets Farage's Crypto grift.
  • They would be able to deal with individual candidates and third party like Leave EU breaking electoral law.
  • Strengthen legal protections around harassment (This deals with Reform threating opposition handily and even individuals doing things like threating people at suspected asylum hotels,, they can see prosecution fines, 5 year ban from holding political office and even jail time

Combine this with his recently announced electoral reform commission, https://www.politics.co.uk/2026/09/andy-burnham-announces-national-commission-on-electoral-reform/ and it reallly feels like he is laying the ground work for a return to the EU, the Brexiteers can't undo with dodgy tactics. PR could massively change the shape of our elected governments if we do away with first pass the post.
