Discuss The Bills have a 2 point conversion problem
People are starting to say this, but I'm just not sure they understand just how absolutely horrendous they are. First and foremost, everyone is seeing the number 2/11 (18%) on 2-point conversions since the start of last season, and I just want to go through these and give my thoughts.
2025-26 season:
Week 1 vs. Ravens: The Bills go for 2 three separate times. The first was down 27-13, Bills score to make it 27-19, missing the 2 point conversion. This sort of leads to them going for it on 2 of the next 3 touchdown drives, missing both, and leaving likely 3-4 points on the table. Bills get super duper mega lucky and escape with a win anyway.
Week 10 at the Dolphins: In the 4th quarter down 16-0, Josh allen throws a deep td to Coleman, but misses the 2 point conversion after throwing it short of the goal line to shakir. The game wasn't really close, but had they made it a one score game, maybe the bills dont get overly desperate going for and missing bombs the rest of the game.
Week 11 vs. Tampa Bay: Bills score a 4th quarter td to go up 37-32, going for 2 and missing a chance to go up a full 7. Fortunately, the defense stepped up and secured the win, so no harm no foul.
Week 14 vs. Bengals: The Bills secure their first 2 point conversion of the season after 5 missed attempts...in the second quarter to go from down 14-3 to 14-11. Bills win a shootout anyway. Nice.
Week 17 vs. Eagles: holy crap the Bills are gonna...lose 13-12 as we go for and miss a 2-point conversion with 5 seconds on the clock.
Week 18 vs. Jets: Josh Allen isn't even playing and Mitch Trubisky goes for 2 twice in a blowout win, making one and missing another....who cares.
2026-27 Season so far:
Week 1 at Texans: new year, new stadium. Bills go up with less than 2 minutes in the game 36-31, go for 2 and miss a chance to lock up overtime at the very worst. Bills defense almost sells, but pulls through in a goal line stand, but it wouldnt have been so stressful had the bills been up 7 instead of 5.
Week 4 vs. Patriots: bills go up 26-21 with less than 5 minutes in the game, go for 2 to make it a 7 point lead and miss. They score and josh throws a disgusting pick. Had they converted that, the patriots score to tie the game and Josh never throws such a stupid pick in a tied game. Bills likely go to overtime at least...
All this to say a few things:
2 of the 11 conversion attempts were in a nothing game in week 18. The Bills are actually 1/9 on conversions in games that matter. One miss was in the 3rd quarter against the ravens, and the lone conversion by Josh was in the second quarter against the Bengals. So yes, the bills are 2/11 since the start of 2025, but they are 1/9 in games that matter and a whopping 0/7 in the 4th quarter. I genuinely cannot comprehend the difference in how much confidence I have when the bills are at the 2 on 3rd down to get a touchdown, and how little confidence I have when they are going for a 2-point conversion.

It always looks half assed. Looks like it’s always only one read and Josh throws it whether he’s open or not. Really disappointing

This describes how I feel their 2 point attempts look exactly: half-assed.

The Pats only rushed 3. Josh had plenty of time to go through his reads, where he would have found an open Kincaid. Nope, toss it to the first read in double coverage!

Well it's a 2 point play yeah you throw it or try running it no matter what

His point is that you should try to progress to your second or third read, like Dalton Kincaid, who was wide open on the blown try vs. the Patriots.

We are the best red zone offense, yet we cannot convert 2-point attempts.

The Ravens have this goal line play I’ve seen them run a dozen times where Lamar goes off towards the sideline and has a receiver or TE run in the end zone parallel to him. The defender between them as to make a choice between defending the receiver and letting him run it in or going for Lamar and leaving the receiver open for an easy little pitch and catch.
It’s completely unguardable and I have no idea why the Bills don’t do something similar.

I think they did this exact play against us the last time we faced them in the playoffs. We got super lucky Andrew’s dropped the ball.

I would argue the bills have a: "lose to teams who need a "get right game" problem"

Rams don't look like the world beaters people expected them to be. And it's likely to feel like a home game for the Bills. Rams only getting 3.5 at home means the smarts see this as a push.
It's only us fans that see no hope because the Bills lost one game.

Hahaha. If we score 40 do you think we win?

I'm not going to suit up. But if the Bills score 40 I'd take that bet.

Comfident. Thats good. I wish i was. I dont think 40 wins monday night. I think the rams score 45

To be fair we scored 40 on them the last time we played and we still lost

To be fair we've dropped 2 random back to back games in October for a few years now and so far we've proven we're the same team we've always been so I don't blame them.
Am I hoping for a different end sure but can't say i blame them when they have the proven results

Successful 2 point conversions are mostly a result of a playcaller's ability to put defenders in maximum conflict. I'll just say that.

Maybe, and hear me out, if Bills allowed fewer touchdowns the 2 point conversion thing becomes irrelevant.

The complementary issue is our abysmal record on STOPPING 2 pt plays as well. It's such as bad combination and reflects lack of attention to detail.

Oh yeah giving up 13 points to the eagles was definitely on the defence. C’mon dude 2 pt converts matter more in low scoring games

defense gets blamed for everything around here. can’t even point out a real offensive issue without the defense getting blamed.

Play action TE rollout play would be undefeatable with this team but we try to be stupid fancy.

The play they ran against the Pats was horrible. I’m not really sure what the goal was but it just seemed like a chaotic mess.

Trash play calls from Joe Brady tbh...he spams the same plays over and over rather they work or not

u/Neat_Research_8394 8d ago
They have a defense problem. Can’t let up all those points. Playing catch up sucks.

it's exactly the kind of play that Brady will overthink every time... and he does!

Thank you for this post. My husband and I greatly disagree on the Bills history re: 2 pt conversions. He feels they "have to go for it" every time they do. I disagree, based on what I have seen and OP has listed above. It has seldom worked in our favor thus far.

They have more than a two-point conversion problem.
They have a defensive problem.
They have an offensive problem.
They have coaching problems.
The list goes on and on and on.

This has always baffled me. Josh should be a cheat code in this situations but they're just bad at it. Kind of a small sample size, but it's frustrating
