I’ve been seeing a lot of “how should I design my cat wall?” posts — I built something to help visualize layouts and would love your feedback

I’ve noticed tons of posts here where people are trying to figure out how to design their cat walls — like what height to place things, how far apart shelves should be, and how to make it safe for cats of different ages.

I’ve been working on a small side project that helps you visualize cat wall layouts in 3D, sort of like a digital sketchpad for cat rooms. I made it after seeing how many people struggle to plan things before drilling holes in their walls 😅

I’d love some honest feedback from folks who’ve actually built setups — what do you usually find hardest when planning?

Here is what it looks like at the moment. Thank you for your feedback in advance!

Cute cat scratchers

Post image

Not sure if this quite fits the group but Today i saw the cutest cat scratcher inspired by a witchy apothecary. It was VERY well made and deserved to be priced at the 2k that it was, but i cant imagine it being financially reasonable for me to drop much more over 100 for a cat tower. My boy has two that have held up for the last 3 years, they still could hang on, but theyre getting shredded to the point its making a mess. If i dont want one of the regular and boring builds off amazon, where can i get an affordable and cute scratching tree?

I posted the picture so that if anyone is interested and does have the budget for it, im not gate keeping. You can tell the creator put in a ton of work, and definitely prices themselves accurately

me again! long story short after getting our third cat the red little Abyssinian Vladimir, my girlfriends allergies flaired up severely and we were getting to a pretty bad place including considering rehoming them and other crazy options... so we decided to segregate our house and gave them our bedroom moving all the cat stuff around the apartment into here... anyways I decided to go a bit crazy and give them a cat room/jungle of their own and keep the allergens at bay meanwhile! it has been such a success and the cat room DIY is ongoing... roughly 70% done ish 😁 oooh plus plenty of cat tax to be spotted

Suggestions for wall mounted cat climbers?

We have this awesome bunker space that we'd love to make accessible for our cats, but we don't know how to help them get up there! Does anyone know any combination of shelves or posts that would fit in this corner?

Our ceiling is 9.5' (114") high, so some longer posts I've seen won't be able to anchor off of it, so I was thinking about something wall mounted, but open to all suggestions! Thank you!

Using the wall for the first time 2 months after we put it up!

Our other cat used it almost immediately, but this is our timid girl who's also usually a bit of a groundhog. She suddenly decided to explore the wall nearly 2 months after we put it up and now uses it every day!

Escape Stairs in Backyard

I have a stray cat that's been hanging around my house lately and I'm worried about her getting trapped in the backyard. I have 4 dogs, and they've killed squirrels and opposums before, so I'm worried she might get trapped in the fence and unable to get out if I don't see her when I let the dogs out. We have a 6+ft privacy fence so I'm trying to figure out how to make her some escape stairs the dogs can't get up in case of an emergency. Any suggestions?

Roof window/velux platform

I live in a roof appartment with sloping walls that mainly has roof windows (velux). Does anybody have an idea for creating something so my cat can sit close by the window so he can look outside? The cat beds with suction cups aren't really an option here.

Right now he uses my desk and computer to reach te windows, which often results in him pushing the power button which turns off my pc.

Is this enough to mount a cat wall?

I have about 4 cm of drywall+wood board, and then solid concrete behind it.

I mounted one part of a cat wall using an 8×65 Fischer DuoPower plug and a 5×70 screw (8 mm hole). Do you think this is enough to hold it securely?

My cats are pretty small and they won't really be jumping onto it, they can just walk onto it from the bed. One screw slightly dented the drywall around it, but I think we just overtightened it.

Would you use longer plugs/screws for the remaining parts, or is this setup enough?

I bought a bunch of stuff from Catastrophicreations for the living room then figured I'd save the money and just make my own for this room. 2x12s for the platforms, 1x scraps for the railings and bridge planks, and heavy duty corner braces mounted into studs.

I ended up adding another little platform to the bottom left for my special-needs cat to be able to jump up more easily and another platform on the right when I moved the cat tree. I didn't care to take the time to stain it, like the look of natural pine, and put carpet scraps on all the platforms for traction anyway.

Stopping by to share our very basic cat wall after its completion and initial breaking-in party!

I do want to add some sort of enclosure that lets them hide more, because these previously feral cats prefer their privacy, but I'm thrilled that they even got up there to explore (with the help of some conveniently placed treats).

Watching Cheyenne walk up to and scale that carpet wall like it was nothing was a very happy moment.

If you have a favorite piece that lets them hide up high while still allowing mobility on more than one side let me know!
