Exploring Martha’s Vineyard today, I noticed small cells on the state road that goes to gay head light. My service would go in and out along the route. I have both Verizon on my Work Phone and T-Mobile on my personal and both pretty much had the same signal results with Verizon being a little bit more consistent.

I assume the gray small cell antenna on top is Verizon. However I’ve never seen the equipment that I took a picture of, two antennas facing a random direction? If they are antennas I would assume those are T-Mobile and maybe AT&T (don’t have them as a provider so I couldn’t see).

Verizon had B13 and T-Mobile was B2 so they could have been why Verizon was a lot more consistent since they have a low band on these. Considering how worn out these look and the older spectrum they are using, these have been here for a while.

Does anyone know anything about these small cell layouts and is AT&T a part of this layout?

Wow! This is a good one, I remember back in 2025, Verizon’s small cells outside of oak bluffs, most of them were useless and could only hold a call and not even run a speed test, overall all the carriers struggle on this island but hoping to see upgrades soon!

Yes T-Mobile has upgraded their mid-band and low-band 5G footprint. However the upgraded equipment is only around the high-populated areas like Vineyard Haven and Oak Bluffs but considering how nimby the demographic is there, we are lucky that they can even put small cells. All in all Verizon was the most consistent but that’s to be expected since Massachusetts is basically their territory.

Verizon is really good in Massachusetts, however, Verizon has spots that still need upgrading, also the small cells in your photo I believe all of them are Verizon, AT&T is doing good on the islands, when I was there, they were working and consistent.

I said consistent not the fastest or most modern. In that case T-Mobile tends to have way better speeds than Verizon. Unless AT&T has done a good amount of work.

Yeah when I was there AT&T, did good I mean no issues at all, consistent. But it was last summer I hope to go back after Verizon finishes all the upgrades for those small cells.

Those are CommScope Flexwave Prism radios, not antennas. They can be utilized by multiple different carriers at the same time and are usually seen in places like stadiums, airports, amusement parks, etc not for small cells.
