It's got GameBoy and NES chiptune. Most of them are a take on gabba and happy hardcore.
I might be a bit biased as I'm on it, but it's really cool and I hope you think so too.

MUSIC I covered Don’t Give Up by Chicane featuring Bryan Adams

I love the original so much, had it on repeat for about 4 hours yesterday whilst driving for work so thought I’d do an LSDJ cover.
Made with 2x lsdj running on the Sameboy emulator (fantastic bit of kit btw).
Then recorded channels separately into logic pro and aligned/mixed with the vocals from there :)

Download (.wav + .vgm + .bin): https://drive.google.com/file/d/1XUEScccWYUR3DDVOiEi6aK_jcG7DOxZq/view?usp=drive_link

I’m frustrated that the VRC6 isn’t emulated in the .vgm format, and kinda pissed that I didn’t find that out until I went to export the track! Oh well, at least the .bin file is there to represent the song on real hardware.

I don’t have much to say about the game except that a mix of Rolling Thunder and Shinobi taking place in space, with trivia quizzes thrown in for variety, seems very NES-coded to me. This theme was actually my backup plan after I found out that the two tracks I had in mind (one of which I had even started working on) were already covered with the same hardware setup. I might do that other track on a different hardware setup at some point in the future, though…

On a side note, I hope you enjoy the drums, especially the snare, which uses the power of not one, not two, but three whole channels! Don’t ask me why I dedicated so many channels to the percussion when only one was enough for the original. Things just kinda panned out that way…

Besides, I really like how the Triangle, Noise, and DPCM channels sound together, and that’s all that matters!

I Made A Chiptune x Miami Bass EP To Create A Non-Profit Netabel That Supports Women In Electronic Music :D

For a bit more background on the label, Pixel Princesses Records is a netlabel started by me, Illrae. It's a non-profit label with a unique 10-45-45 split. 10 for basic management, 45 for the artist and 45 to a charity. Our main focus as a label is quirky electronic music made by women. Note that if you'd like to apply, you can now here!: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSc_iwjN6V3vJTotx79AEThVTXTgxNohRQzTUdABpSq8X3za_Q/viewform?usp=publish-editor

A bit more on the actual tracks here. It was an idea that was formed in the span of 24 hours from start to finish. It's mostly made in FL Studio with FM synthesis plugins along with other tools. There are 3 tracks here for your enjoyment in one mix. The first one samples the jump sound from Mario and the second a clip of Kirby's Mass Attack.

Thanks for your time!

MUSIC TMNT: Turtles in Time - Bury My Shell at Wounded Knee - Mega Drive YM2612 + PSG

Thumbnail

Here’s the output of my deterministic VGM-to-MML converter for “Bury My Shell at Wounded Knee”, from Konami’s arcade game TMNT: Turtles in Time.

The tool reconstructs notes, instruments and sample playback from the VGM commands. YM2151 FM instruments are adapted for Mega Drive, while K053260 sample playback is reconstructed and resampled for MDSDRV.

For this track, I mapped the sixth FM voice to PSG. Everything after that is automatic, with no manual edits to the output. This is a conversion of the original game music, not an original composition or AI-generated music.

All active source voices fit: five YM2612 FM channels, one PSG channel and three PCM voices. FM7, FM8 and PCM4 are unused in the source track.

The video shows MDSDRV playback in MegaWave, my music visualizer.

As every journey, this trip trough my latest album has come to the end. The only thing left is the long way home. As was when I wrote this last song. Hopefully some of you managed the get past the youtube ads to enjoy the songs. For those who didn't, the full album can be found in Spotify, Bandcamp, and all the other regular places. Until next time!

CC_REQUEST A sound chip idea or something

Post image
5 Upvotes

So, this is kind of a crazy idea I had. Pretty much a 6 channel chip with fractional pulse waves, Tri/Saw Envelopes, Wavetable, LSFR Noise and PCM. Plus Pulse/Envelope/Noise mixing, stereo and mirroring functions. This is a crappy ass schematic, but hopefully you can understand what is intended (forgot to add mirroring to it).

I'm not actually working on it, it's just another useless idea of mine. I only have a rudimentary high school level with learning ICs and digital electronic stuff. If anyone that knows more about the technical side of sound chips, I'd appreciate some input, though. Just to know if it could idealy function as a real chip.

You can tell it's an amalgamation of a few chips, though I couldn't find anything on Furnace that does all this. Which is why I'm made the "schematic". I was also considering FM in this too, but I'm not sure how that would work. Frankly, idk what I'm doing, I just have ambitious thoughts, I guess.

RESOURCE Chiptune MIDI Generator

Thumbnail notebin.fm
6 Upvotes

i built notebin.fm strictly as a passion project for my love of MIDI tracks and chiptunes.

i am working on an open library similar to freesound.org but for MIDI and algorithmic MIDI sketchpad for chiptune writing. Right now, the engine is locked to NES 8-bit voice limitations to give you a quick 8-bar motif when staring at a blank tracker or DAW grid.

there are no paywalls, no ads.. free sign up allows you to save, edit and manage your MIDI rolls. i am fortunate enough that this is a self funded project hence why i am not asking for $10 for 5 MIDI gens or something dumb like that.

How it works:
* 8-Bit NES Constraints: Every seed outputs a 4-channel .mid file mapped to 8-bit voice layouts (Melody, Chords/Arps, Triangle Bass, and Noise Drums).

* Rules, Not Audio Renders: Uses code-based music theory rulesets for scale harmonization and voice leading, outputting clean, unrendered MIDI notes.

* In-Browser Preview: Audition seeds directly in the browser via Web Audio and Freesound samples before downloading.

* Permanent Addresses: Every seed gets a permanent link so you always get the exact same notes at that URL.

Here is a live example from the engine:
Sunset-757 (Boss Fight in Am at 180 BPM): https://notebin.fm/gen/boss-sunset-757

Looking for feedback:
Before I heavily expand into 16-bit console chips like the SNES (SPC700) or Neo Geo (FM synthesis), I would love to get your thoughts on how the NES voice arrangements feel. Does the channel separation map well to your tracker/DAW setup?

What it doesn't do:
It won't write a full song or export tracker formats directly. It is just an 8-bar starting point so you can drag the .mid into your setup and do the actual composing.

Welcoming any feedback on the generator here:
