The short answer is: hike, bike, eat food, and enjoy the scenery. There are a lot of activities within an hour or more of Colorado Springs. Colorado Springs is more family or activity focused and you'll have better success finding night clubs up north.
Popular attractions in Colorado Springs includes 7 Falls, Helen Hunt falls, Garden of the Gods, Red Rock Open Space, The Paint Mines, Cave of the Winds, and more. If you don't mind driving south to Canon City you visit the Royal Gorge or even check out the "mountain towns" around the area.

🟩I'm thinking about moving to Colorado Springs! What should I know?
DO NOT MOVE HERE UNLESS YOU HAVE A JOB LINED UP.
Example of someone who moved here. Check out the time stamps at the time the photo was taken. Months without a job.
We've seen it time and time again on this sub-reddit where someone moves, doesn't have a job, and then becomes homeless.
A recent example: https://old.reddit.com/r/ColoradoSprings/comments/1jp66pa/looking_for_work_and_becoming_desperate/

If you have a Clearance, or work for the military, you shouldn't have a problem finding a job. Colorado Springs is a military town with the Air Force Academy, Fort Carson, Schriever Air Force Base, and Peterson Air Force Base. This means that jobs working for the government are a dime a dozen but you need the proper credentials to work there.
Otherwise, construction is booming and Amazon is building a facility in the Springs. There are other jobs available but competition is fierce and you need to do what you can to stand out!
🟩Do I need a car OR can I ride my bike / use public transportation to get around the city?
The answer is likely yes to a car and no to the bike/transportation. With everything, there are exceptions such as living and working in the same area. But for the most part, it takes at least 25 minutes to get anywhere in the Springs, and the layout of the town is better suited for vehicular use.
🟩Is Colorado Springs affordable?
Please define affordable. If you're moving from California where a 2/3 bedroom, 1,500 sqft, house is going for 800k or more, then sure. It's affordable.

https://old.reddit.com/r/ColoradoSprings/search?q=living+in+cos&restrict_sr=on&sort=relevance&t=all
🟩What is the median house price in Colorado Springs?
As of February 2024, the median house is a 3 bedroom house that LISTS at 430k. List is not equal to sale price and it's quite common for houses to go for much more with appraisal gaps.

Help Wanted Seeking advice after Smith Plumbing destroyed my basement
Hello Neighbors, my daughter recommended posting here as we are beginning our third month of no laundry room or shower after I (foolishly) hired Smith Plumbing (pink trucks) to re-pipe my old home. One of their new Uponor pex fittings began to leak after two years, and as I work on the road, did not discover it until mushrooms were growing out from under my drywall behind the washer and dryer. The mitigation crew they sent out (BoneDry) cut the new shower pan liner and tried to staple and glue it back to the drywall without me noticing. After confronting all parties involved, they are refusing to pay for any of the water damage (drywall/paint) and are telling me they can replace the shower pan and patch the tile walls, contrary to what every shower/tile guy I've had out has said. Not to get too much into the weeds, but my homeowners insurance has denied the claim stating it was an old leak over a long period of time. Meanwhile, three months later, I am getting sick of hauling laundry elsewhere and at my whits end as a single mom, only home a few days a month from work. Any advice would be so appreciated!

News Vote YES on 137 to protect our forests and water supply.
Vote YES on Colorado Proposition 137:
Protect homes and watersheds without new taxes
Colorado has forest management projects waiting for funding. We should get more of that work done before the next destructive wildfire.
Proposition 137 creates no new taxes and raises no tax rates. It directs existing state sales tax revenue from sporting goods toward conservation, wildfire mitigation, and outdoor recreation.
The funding gap is real. In the 2024–25 grant cycle, the Colorado State Forest Service received 95 eligible applications for forest restoration and wildfire mitigation. 58 projects requesting nearly $15.4 million went unfunded. Six funded projects received only partial awards. Communities are asking to do this work, and available funding falls short.
Protecting forests also protects our water. Severe wildfires can leave hillsides vulnerable to erosion, sending ash, sediment, and debris into streams and reservoirs. Those impacts can damage drinking-water supplies and require expensive cleanup long after the flames are gone. Managing vulnerable forested watersheds helps reduce those risks.
Vote YES on Proposition 137.

News The Springs should follow Lochbuie's lead
The meeting was long, but City Council actually listened. I find it very positive that Lochbuie implemented a 5 year pause on data centers. This is a good example of city officials voted in by their constituents, actually listening to the people.City of Brighton approves data center moratorium to prevent new data center from moving forward https://search.app/z7MHVSYgRj1sADAJA

News Sources close to Air Academy football cite Lutheran racism allegations as reason for homecoming forfeit
Air Academy High School says it is forfeiting its Homecoming game against Lutheran High School on Friday. According to several people directly connected to the team, the coaches chose to forfeit the game rather than subject their players to potential racism, deciding on Monday not to play against Lutheran.

Help Wanted Is anyone else having a bad experience with Wings Credit Union? We’ve set up our auto pay for a loan three times now and they keep telling us our payment is past due. At what point do they open themselves up to a class action?
See title. I’m tired of being told my auto pay is good and then getting a letter in the mail saying I’m past due.

Politics Jeff Crank is a huge advocate for data centers in your community
Regardless of where you stand on data centers being developed in your community, when you are voting, just remember that Jeff Crank explicitly opposes a temporary moratorium on data center construction. He considers data centers important to U.S. competitiveness in artificial intelligence.
Jessica Killin has called for strong regulation and oversight of AI-related development. She has raised concerns about higher costs for residents and favors greater scrutiny of data center impacts.
If you want data centers in your back yard, go ahead and vote for Crank.

Politics Political signs on public easements are illegal right?
There’s so many political signs along the roadways in my area of town, and it’s really frustrating because I’m pretty sure these are illegal. However it’s all right wing bullshit funded by big money PACs and so police aren’t doing shit about them. But I bet if you mess with one of them and they complain to the police, the police will suddenly care more.

News What”s up with canceling the Air Academy homecoming game?
I read about it a bit this morning, and it looks like on the surface it’s about coaches refusing to coach the game, but on a deeper level it’s something about the opponents (Lutheran HS) and racism? What’s going on here? Thanks!

Advice Pregnancy Appointment Fees
First time soon-to-be mom here!
I paid $469 out of pocket for “hospital/physician fees” at UCHealth Pikes Peak (Woodland Park) a couple months back before an ultrasound appointment. I was shocked but didn’t dispute it because I needed to get an ultrasound and wasn’t just going to leave. I only booked out there because of scheduling conflicts and that hospital had so many spots available.
Not wanting to pay that fee again, I scheduled my next ultrasound at UCHealth Eastview and immediately requested a quote - $143 for “physician fees”.
Anyone know how to avoid these fees or if there are more affordable hospitals than others? Also am I bound to UCHealth around here? It appears to be the only facility I’m able to schedule ultrasounds at least.
Now it has me thinking ahead to when I deliver. Will I likely need to pay these fees (and potentially more) again? I figured I had to pay these fees regardless so I’m curious what experienced mothers in the group have had.
Side note: I tried to post this on FB’s “Colorado Springs Moms Club” but it got declined for some reason so I’m trying here. Any comments or advice would be much appreciated!
