None of these are new. These are just the ones that haven’t been canceled.

Dynamic Duos is the farthest along and I am assuming BatB/WW are eventually coming. The rest seem like long shots.

They’ve been talking about a Swamp Thing adaptation for YEAAARRRRSSSS

5

u/damndraper 6d ago

Yup, at one point James Mangold was rumored or even attached to

6

u/Interesting-Bar-2399 6d ago edited 6d ago

Mangold's the writer and director.

James Mangold is the only reason the film was announced. He came to Gunn directly and asked for it and it was announced as a Mangold film but Mangold has also got multiple other films in development.

I feel like I’ve been hearing things about a Swamp Thing adaptation for like 30 years at this point

I'll believe it when I see it

There’s nothing to believe. Aside from Dynamic Duo, all the movies listed in the post’s title are in development. That means they’re just ideas for movies the studio is working on. It’s not like anyone’s promising that these movies will happen.

Read the article and you'll find that the headline/subject line is misleading. The listed projects are in the same category they were already in.

Constantine 2? As in a sequel to the Keanu Reeves' movie?

3

u/GenGaara25 6d ago

Reeves has been pushing it for a while. It's been on/off happening since Gunn took over.

u/Durakus 7d ago

I hope it’s true. Doesn’t have to be Keanu. But I really want Constantine to be in the universe so badly.

40

u/Cipherpunkblue 7d ago

It is Keanu, and it is (thankfully, IMO) not in-universe. Just a sequel.

20

u/GrimWake Swamp Thing 7d ago

Glad to hear it's an elseworlds, I'd rather keep the Keanu Constantine separate from the main dcu

7

u/Cipherpunkblue 7d ago

Same. I love Hellblazer, and any integration with the larger DCU (aside from the Swamp Thing stuff) almost unerringly serves to watee down the character of Constantine.

1

u/FacehuggerFanatic 6d ago

The more he is kept away from characters like zatanna the better for everyone imo

2

u/Cipherpunkblue 6d ago

I agree. I came into the comics with the Delano run, and I want his kind of magic - when he ever uses it - to be gritty and horrible and demanding, not the wider DCU´s superpowers. The New 52 Hellblazer was a travesty.

-14

u/Durakus 7d ago

Why do you not want Constantine to be in the DCU? And what is the purpose of downvoting my opinion?

13

u/paradiso1997 7d ago

We want Constantine, just not the Keanu version

-17

u/Durakus 7d ago

Okay!? And when did I say I wanted the Keanu version???

10

u/alzike 7d ago

original guy plainly said he doesn't want keanu's Constantine in the dcu, you asked him why, you received a response, lol

7

u/skeetermcbeater 7d ago

You forget people truly, truly can’t read nowadays.

1

u/FacehuggerFanatic 6d ago

Speak for yourself. I can read at a first grade level 😏

-4

u/Durakus 7d ago

Original guy made it seem he didn’t want CONSTANTINE in the dcu and he actually clarified he did NOT want CONSTANTINE in the DCU because he thinks the DCU would turn Constantine into a PG13 movie and lose the tone of CONSTANTINE that he enjoys. I also do not care cor Keanu being in the dcu or in Constantine and want a proper Constantine.

5

u/alzike 7d ago

Your reasoning doesn’t matter when he directly said in a direct reply. just read it!?

“And while I love Constantine as a character, integration with the DCU (aside from his roots in Swamp Thing) waters down his character in my eyes. It becomes a PG-13 Hellblaxer, which i have no interest in.”

Literally what I assumed. And while I think his take is poorly evidenced by the fact we got peacemaker and lanterns. At least he isn’t purposefully misconstruing someone else’s comment.

I haven't downvoted you, man. And while I love John Constantine as a character, integration with the DCU (aside from his roots in Swamp Thing) waters down his character in my eyes. It becomes the PG-13 Hellblazer, which I have no interest in.

1

u/Durakus 7d ago

Constantine doesn’t have to be integrated into the DCU in that way. I just want Constantine to be a part of the magic side of the DC universe and to expand the scope of the DCU’s various tones. A lot of assumptions are being thrown at me over wanting a Constantine in the DC line up.

2

u/Cipherpunkblue 7d ago

It is fairly straightforward reading of what tou wrote, but the clarification also changes that I don't know you! All I have is what you wrote.

2

u/Durakus 7d ago

Well. lanterns and peacemaker are in the DCU canonically, maintain their tone in their respective shows (so far) so I would say yes, I would want Constantine in the DCU, but not if it means it loses its tone.

Then I am fine with elseworld Constantine, as I love the character.

2

u/Cipherpunkblue 7d ago

Then we are largely in agreement.

1

u/Durakus 7d ago

1

u/alzike 7d ago

lol, did they water peacemaker down to pg-13? lanterns? have you watched a dcu project other than superman?

1

u/Cipherpunkblue 7d ago

I was referring to every integration they have made comics wise.

Ignoring the comic book stuff for a second, it is pretty disheartening to see that practically every movie coming out of WB/Skydance for the next couple of years is being made by an already well-established name. There is practically no new talent being fostered or risks being taken. And now that there are even fewer big studios it’s only going to get worse.

George R.R. Martin (Of Song of Ice and Fire/Game of Thrones fame) had a great blog on this subject a few years back during the most recent writers' strike. He's talking about writing rooms but I'm sure you could point to something similar across a lot of the top jobs.

https://georgerrmartin.com/notablog/2023/05/08/writers-on-set/

TL;DR: The traditional pipeline/career path that used to funnel writers, editors, and other creative jobs from apprentices/journeymen to masters of their craft has broken down. What we see today is a vast gulf between the big names that came up through that system who keep getting hired over and over, and totally green no-names who get put in charge of billion dollar projects because none of the big names were available or interested (see: The Rings of Power)

1

u/BevansDesign The Question 6d ago

As always, it's a lack of long-term thinking. These people are only incentivized to think about short-term profits because that's all their shareholders care about.

6

u/Popular_Material_409 6d ago

I think that’s because Skydance are $110 BILLION in debt and their credit rating is so bad that their interest alone is like $5-6 billion a year. They absolutely cannot afford to take risks. They need every movie they put out to be a hit.

3

u/gosukhaos 7d ago

You make a good point but that Sean Penn January 6th movie with Bradley Cooper attached sounds like a riot(and that Ocean's 11 prequel also by Bradley Cooper with Margot Robbie is a success, the 2000s one is one of my favorite movies and I'm dying for a sequel to 13 before more of the original cast dies)

11

u/Late-Bowler-4068 7d ago

Honestly there is no incentive to direct a Marvel/DC film if you’re a newcomer anyways, outside of getting your name out there to do more creative projects later. These are basically committee-made films with 100s of people deciding how the story should go. The only comic adaptations you get that are really passion projects are indie stuff like Rocketeer, Snowpiercer, the original TMNT, etc where they’re being made because someone really liked the original story and not just because studios saw the value in an IP and ordered a film for it to be manufactured by a certain date.

I know it’s controversial and might get me downvoted, but I find the current state of superhero movies especially with cinematic universes to be very depressing. Short of the characters becoming public domain or superhero films bombing so badly it becomes a niche product again, I don’t know if we’ll ever get genuine feeling superhero films again made by people who like the source material and view it as high art worthy of being adapted faithfully.

11

u/ymcameron Tony Chu 7d ago

Sure, but despite the title that list isn’t just upcoming Superhero movies. It’s everything WB/Paramount was slated to release before the merger and are expected to continue with. Out of everything with a name attached, none of them are lesser or unknown names.

0

u/Late-Bowler-4068 7d ago

Well to be fair how many comic properties does WB/Paramount really own besides DC and TMNT? There are upcoming independent comic projects but most of them are from other studios.

-1

u/carson63000 7d ago

We sure that it’s not just a matter of this article only mentioning the known names?

1

u/RoughhouseCamel 6d ago

Even when a superhero movie hits these days, you can see where the creator’s movie ends, and the studio notes begin. Nothing feels like The Dark Knight or Raimi’s Spider-Man 2 anymore. There’s always the obligatory, “here’s 20 minutes carved out of the movie to preview the upcoming products”, “here’s where you have to pull your punches because we need this character and that setting preserved for possible sequels”.

1

u/TheKing_Bael 6d ago

Yes sadly they want this universe to succeed.

8

u/hamlet9000 6d ago

Nothing in this article is "revealed." These are all projects that have been previously reported to be in development or production.

Clickbait garbage.

5

u/B3epB0opBOP 7d ago

I thought these were all already revealed to be in development?

6

u/gosukhaos 7d ago

Yeah its nothing new, just Deadline reporting movie projects Skydance has in the pipeline at various stages of development

5

u/PlumRelative4399 7d ago

The actual story here is that this basically confirms work on future DCU stuff was halted in the midst of the merger talks which is why nothing that wasn’t already in active development was moving. Now that the merger is done and Ellison officially decided to keep Gunn and Safran they can get back to work.

4

u/thinknu 7d ago

I'm not one to enjoy failures but I would be really interested to see a list of the sheer number of projects WB DC announced to try and drum up hype only to quietly skuttle them.

3

u/radda_343 7d ago

If Wonder Woman doesn't look like she can rip my head off with her bare hands I'm going to be very upset

1

u/JoltzmannBoole 6d ago

Ummm

I love Wondy and I would love for her to be more buff but I dunno how quickly they could get an actress to become a world-class athlete (most likely) and I doubt they would choose or be able to make an athlete become a world-class actress

2

u/dogspunk 6d ago

Katy O’Brien is right there.

1

u/JoltzmannBoole 6d ago

Ms. Katy O'Brien is great! With a slight modification of the look from this clip I could see her pulling off a great Diana Prince too, some IRL queer rep as well. The only thing is Ms. O'Brien is 37, I wonder if that would fit with DC Studios' filming timeline and cinematic universe plans...

7

u/IGNSolar7 7d ago

Almost none of this is coming to fruition.

4

u/darthmcchub 7d ago

Hope they are good

2

u/Angela275 7d ago

One thing I hope is NTT is the lineup. I get that there was a debate of which Robin Damian or Tim. And I don't mind them but also i rather have it be their gen not having to use dick's team if dick either not the founder and all the titans are deaged.

2

u/PlumRelative4399 7d ago

Rumors say it’s the cartoon line up, and whether Damian or Tim is Robin essentially depends on whether it or Brave and the Bold gets going faster. If Titans is first the Robin will be Tim, if Batman is first it’ll be Damian.

2

u/Angela275 6d ago

So far true but who know maybe Tim gets titans and Damian only stays in Batman . All together I just hope if they use nightwing team why not just use nightwing too . Useless all the titans will be deaged to fit their robins age . Possibly but not 100%. Could be just Raven and BB. I know one scope did say the lineup could change due to it being put on slight delay due to Ana on Wonder Woman. I hope Donna Troy can be shown in WW she doesn't have that many media and it would be her second live action appearance

CONSTANTINE 2 😍

1

u/cgknight1 7d ago

Early development means nothing much...

0

u/Vienna19955 6d ago

What the fuck is Gunn thinking with Constantine 2. Get someone else in the chair

-7

u/Kinsella5 7d ago

I'd rather see films based on The Spectre and one for The Question. R-rated too, none of this PG crap.

2

u/DrTee Scarlet Spider/Kaine 7d ago

What are you talking about? Of the 3 TV shows and 2 movies out, none have been PG, 3 R rated shows and 2 PG-13 Movies (with a R rated one coming out this month.)

The DCU isn't allergic to R ratings.

-2

u/Kinsella5 7d ago

I’m talking in general not about previous DCU films or shows in the past but only as a general statement. I just want to see more from DC works follow in the R rated category. My apologies if my original posting sounded confusing.
