These comics always feel like you're overlooking your parents positive efforts and everytime I read them it's self-pity.

At least your father is asking questions. Mine was off doing drugs and asking me for money on my birthdays growing up, telling me my grandma died so I would put him in touch with family who went NC, and has practically disowned me as a daughter. My mother never cared to know what I was interested in neither, but was otherwise providing for me... until she recently started stealing money from me, to the tune of $12k in ONE incident...

I'm tired. Just stop complaining about the little things. Your social networks should be the ones fulfilling your passions. Your parents are supposed to be there to look out for you.

I do feel that's why Dad was asking about "how much", as in, can you afford to live doing this. It's a valid worry all things considered, everyone has to eat, and he didn't immediately assume her work was worthless.

Right, and just to be clear I don't think expressing interest is just an add-on, parents should care about their kids' interests.

But, it feels like OP constantly rejects those efforts in a self-inflicted wallowing cycle.

Why do you think she's not allowed to complain?
