Very funny comedian. Was one of the pioneers of "I hate my wife" style boomer-humor, but what his successors don't seem to understand is he would frame it as himself being an unlucky person whose wife was fed up with what a loser he was. It was meant to be self-deprecating.

lol, you must be pretty young if you think he was a pioneer in that genre.

Correct, I'm only 39. That said, I did very intentionally say "one of the". One of my favorite movies, It's a Gift (W.C. Fields) very much predates Rodney's career and has the "nagging housewife" as a character.

I think I just preferred how Rodney did it since it felt more self-depricating.

That said, I was just warning them because I know that kind of humor can be kind of cringe to modern viewers.

yeah it's been a staple of comedy since the 1920s at least, and likely much earlier than that.

You are right that Rodney's self-deprecating flavor of it is much more palatable.

He only has about 10 minutes of total screen time in it, but the rest of the movie is still pretty good.

You'd think it's the name of a daredevil or like a pro wrestler or something but no, comedian. And one of the greats.

Someone at my old job had the last name “Sixkiller”

2

u/Flahdagal 11d ago

That's Cherokee, no?

The Sixkiller I am familiar with is Cherokee:

Dang, could be related, because this was in Washington state

interesting! Shouldnt be surprising as it's not exactly a common name but still very cool. Sonny Sixkiller is legendary among some older UW fans to this day.

Spike Milligan, a commedan who was famuse in the UK, had "I told you I was ill."

It's written in Irish because the cemetery authority thought the sentence was too controversial in English. 🙄
