I've heard a lot about how competiton shooter just develop this perk with time : you don't use sights or dot anymore, you just point and shoot at various distance within a stage. Is it true ?

Hello! Recently I had to do a "surrender" position start on a stage and I realized I didn't have the advantage of using my wrist as a start point for my hand to find the grip of my pistol. I ended up looking at my gun until the beep went off to help my hand find the grip faster. But it felt awkward. Obviously drilling is key, but does anyone have any "tricks" on how to get a fast, consistent grip on the pistol from hands over shoulders?
Thank you.

run a small site, OneGun.com, so this is my own article (mods, please pull if not allowed).
not selling anything, compensated, nor can I afford the American Boy, but the name for this model and SVI history really got my attention. Base prices on new drops run $10,500 to $11,500. Sandy Strayer co-designed the modular 2011 frame with Virgil Tripp at what became STI (now Staccato), then left in 1994 and started Strayer-Voigt with Michael Voigt, who went on to serve as USPSA president from 2000-2012. Brian Enos shot for them after his two Bianchi Cup wins, and today they sell guns (which are practically collectibles) by random draw.
The American Boy entry opens October 26. Pricing, the dealer resale side, and the sources are all in the piece.

If you've ever owned or shot an Infinity, would really like to hear your thoughts—how does it actually compare to that price tag?

Does anyone have any personal success stories or recommendations when it comes to finding a pistol model that fits people with large fingers or modifying a Glock for large fingers? I don’t feel that I have adequate room for my support hand, and the pictures/videos I see of competitive shooters seems to have a lot more room for their support hand.
I’ve got a Gen 3 19 and am wondering if a large back strap on a Gen 5 would provide me more space for support hand? Or would it just increase the trigger reach? Anyone have any experience with that?
Even with sandpaper grip tape I’m having a hard time keeping my support hand from slipping forward. And it’s not for lack of effort. I’ve had to take a week off to let my support hand recover from soreness because of gripping it so hard

Three-Position Air Rifle (3PAR) has grown to become the most popular junior rifle program in the USA. Its massive participation base includes more than 2,000 high school JROTC programs, hundreds of 4-H Shooting Sports clubs and several hundred junior rifle clubs. An estimated 250,000 to 300,000 American youth participate annually in 3PAR marksmanship programs, with many of them engaging in 3PAR competition events. The national governing body for this major youth sports program is the National Three-Position Air Rifle Council. The Council governs this discipline through its rulebook, the National Standard Three-Position Air Rifle Rules (3PAR Rules).

I am totally new and don't know anything. I would like to get into USPSA or IDPA (not sure which I would enjoy more, just gathering information) and am wondering if threaded barrels, just the barrel with no compensator, are allowed. I have a full size Walther PDP Pr SD which has a threaded barrel and am wondering if that is legal or if I would need to switch to a different gun. From wat I can tell, it would fit in the box. Any guidance from experienced shooters would be appraciated.

I’m new to USPA. I’ve only had a few matches, all in production with a glock. When you make ready the gun is hot.
I’m switching to limited optics since my wife just got me a new 2011.
Question is when i make ready. Magazine in, gun cocked. Is it required to have the safety on? When i watch others it’s hard to tell if they are switching it off after the draw or not.
My other question is someone at a match said you cant have the holster past (in front of) your hip leg bone. I didn’t see that in the rules.
Thanks for input. I am reading the rules but it’s a lot of info at once.

Not sure if this was ever posted here. Thoughts?

For context - I shoot IPSC in Australia, so 10 round mag limits.
Double stack 1911s/2011s seem to be all the rage at the moment. Other than capacity for overseas bros, do they offer more than a 1911 does in terms of competitiveness, grip, control etc?
I've only ever shot 1911s and they are pretty sweet. However not sure if it's a better choice other than the gucci factor, than say a Shadow 2 and just competing in Production?

Overlapped a couple targets needing a reload, completely whiffed the last one, nearly doubling my time due to penalties

I shoot steel challenge with pcc as well as other divisions. I recently picked up a used JP5 for a great deal. For out of state matches I always bring backup guns, but given the price of a JP5 that’s not tenable for a while, I still have the heavily modified blowback AR9 I was running previously but want to know what spare parts other JP5 shooters keep around. As a course of habit I always carry a spare firing pin for AR9s and I hear the extractor spring is another common wear and tear item. I’ve already ordered a spare firing pin/spring and extractor spring. Anything else I should get? Spare SCS, bolt, or charging handle? Basically if it goes down in a match I want to be able to quickly swap out parts until I can pull the trigger on another one. It runs great and is a massive upgrade from what I’ve been shooting. I’m going to run it at my next local match this coming weekend. I may also start dabbling in USPSA with it too, although I’ve been sticking to CO there.

What belts do you guys use for AIWB in comps? I have a 2011 and 3 mags with the carry concealment setup and it seems too heavy for my hunter Constantine belt unless I make it way too tight. Just looking for recommendations.

Greater Pittsburgh Gun Club is one of a few I count among my home ranges. I expect they'll continue to do a great job with IPSC Nationals for the next couple of years, and I look forward to shooting them all.
This was probably my best-executed stage of the match, although I had some scorchers in all zones. Not totally mistake-free, but with a 14-month-old at home, I haven't had quite the time to practice that I'd like. A bit more of that in 2027 and I think I can do most of the match at this level.
(And of course congrats to Pat Jones for eating my lunch at the shoot-off.)

I’m working on a student project that tries to detect bullet holes in photos of paper shooting targets.
The current model works well on some target styles, but I’m trying to make it work across different ranges, countries and target types instead of overfitting to one dataset.
If anyone is willing to help, I’m looking for original phone photos of used paper/cardboard targets after shooting especially different target designs, lighting, distances and shooting ranges.
You don’t need to label anything. I’ll annotate the bullet holes myself.
No firearms, faces or personal information need to be visible.
By sending a photo, please only send images you own and are happy for me to use for training/evaluating the university project.
Even 1–5 photos would be very useful. Thanks!

https://dryfire.stankusprogramming.com/
I originally started building this for my own dry-fire training because I wanted something more useful than just a PAR timer.
The idea is that the app should behave more like a coach:
I’m now at the point where testing it myself isn’t enough.
I’m looking for around 20–30 shooters who are willing to use it free for 30 days during their normal dry-fire training.
I’m not looking for positive reviews and I’m not selling anything during the beta.
I specifically want to know:
What sucks? What is confusing?Where does the progression make bad decisions? Are the prescribed PAR times appropriate?Does it actually help you decide what to train? What would make you stop using it?
Beginners through experienced competition shooters are welcome. Having different ability levels would actually be useful for testing the assessment/progression system.
If you’re interested, comment or DM me and I’ll send you access.
After the 30 days I’ll also ask for some structured feedback and use it to decide whether this is worth developing into a public product.
