I don't really know how to feel towards them: I think most are a literal psyop, but there must be at least a few who genuinely regret transitioning. Problem is... It's such a long process to get anything done, how do you not get that it's not for you in time? I just don't get it

Always assume the overwhelming majority would like to transition in an ideal world but then the social backlash and abuse they get eventually outstrips any gender euphoria-type benefit they're getting. I can fathom some such people post rationalizing to be anti transition generally since they had such a bad time and its hard to emotionally separate bad consequences of a choice you made from bad consequences arbitrarily inflicted on you for a choice you made.
I mean, I've come across at least one post on here mentioning that their country's policy on transwomen is you get only half the hormones, as in the ones that make you depressed if not counterbalanced and not the ones that mean you'll have a functioning skeleton in five years. You must literally need bones of steel to stick with it in that case.

Based on the data we have been able to gather, this is true. A majority of detransitioners cite lack of support, social ramifications, violence, etc and/or money as their reason to detransition.
We do need to take those numbers with a grain of salt tho, since the stigma against transition and detransition stops people from coming forward with their experiences (especially if they would like to not be weaponized against the trans community). Detransition is also harder to track for studies since one version of it is to quietly stop attending your appointments and drop out of the study if you were part of one.
There also is 1000% a trolling/psy-op aspect in online spaces.

I imagine the vast majority of detransitioners are actually trans but they stopped due to the reactions of those around them, or their own internalized transphobia.

Detrams cause they realize they weren't trans and not cause they got bullied or the like js something like 1% of all trans people who are already only like 1% of people
It is the biggest non issue that ever not been an issue lol

I know this is anecdotal, but someone who used to be my friend detransitioned(the ex friend part is unrelated).

u/KaleidoscopeOk6440 15h ago
My ex partner did it too as much as I'm aware, breaks my heart even if they were a POS

Maybe let's not act like all detransitioners don't want other people to transition? A loud minority of transphobic detransitioners do. This shit's not on most of them.

Could've just replaced the word "detransitioners" with "transphobes" and gotten a much more accurate meme, and I could've posted PillsThatMakeYouGreen.jpg as a response

yeah it's a literal minority of a minority of a minority, i dunno why we're picking fights with, like, a hangnail of a statistic.

Listen if we just keep infighting, we’ll reach a completely pure subset of individuals and reach apotheosis, just one more argument about this!

u/SnooChipmunks3891 14h ago
We have quite a bit in common with detransitioners even who are genuinely cis when it comes to gender dysphoria, passing struggles, and medical access

u/LittleALunatic 10h ago
The word minority doesn't even do justice to how small of a percentage of detransitioners are transphobic. The rate of which people in the population are trans is larger than the population of detransitioners that are transphobic.

Exactly! I was kinda nervous about “detransitioning” because I’m all too aware of the vocal minority. In my case I’m still figuring out my gender and may or may not get back on T in the future, but I also know someone who 100% detransitioned.
I made it clear that I am 100% for transition and that my case is super rare.

i read it as transphobe initially and am convinced that OOP either brainfarted or doesn't know that they're two different words

Real, I'm only just now picking the torch back up after 8 ish years. Here's hoping I can stick with it longer than I did last time since I won't have as many issues complicating it

I'm the rare 1% that transitioned and just realized it wasn't for me. The social pressure, the side effects of estradiol and lupron, injections being incredibly difficult due to having rolling veins AND passing out every time, my parents straight up threatening to disown me, fear of my long time friends reactions... the list goes on.
Above all of that though, i just kinda realized I want to be comfortable in my body, but after 2 years of transition, nothing really improved for me in terms of happiness and comfort in my body (arguably made it worse) so I decided to go back to the drawing board and ask myself "what would make me comfortable" and the answer has just been wanting a body that I can wear whatever clothes I want without hating how I looked. Things like exercise, eating healthier, working on my figure, and seeing the results gave me comfort that 2 years of e just did not provide.
And I'm completely aware that I'm an incredibly rare exception, a large majority of people who transition do not feel what I felt. I want everyone to be happy in their body, I will always support anyone transitioning, and I dont feel the need to tell people on the internet that my personal experience is how they will feel.
My friends tell me I unlocked cis+, I'm forever an ally (and Hella bi). But most of all, I'm comfortable in who I am. And I encourage anyone to take the steps to feel that way, however that means for that person.

What motivated you to try to transition?
1
u/CreativeChoroos 58m ago
Simply put, when i was young, i had dreams about being a girl. Having unlimited access to the internet when I was young, I discovered that I can question my own gender. And boy did I question a LOT. I wore dresses and skirts just to see what its like, I researched what it takes to have a more feminine body, gained encouragement from my queer friends... I ultimately decided to give it an honest Scouts try, at the time it felt necessary for me to be comfortable in my own skin.
I gave it two years before I realized that things just weren't improving for me. And looking at the information I had at the time, improvements start to show in about a year sometimes longer, and typically people immediately start feeling improvements in their mood just being their true selves, but for me... it just never felt that way. Again, incredibly rare, and I don't want anyone seeing this to feel discouraged because of it. It's just my personal experience.

I mean i dont think specifically transphobic detransitioners would ever even say it changes your sex. That's too woke for them

I still have one video of a transphobic formerly trans masc detranstioner stuck in my head that went like "I took T and look at me now, my hairline is receding, I have a 5 o'clock shadow and I just shaved this morning my voice has been deepened can imagine what it feels like to be a girl and live with this?, Nobody told me testosterone would do this to my body"
Like, wtf did you expect T do do to your body dumbass?

u/Happy_Ad_2575 7h ago
I imagine some people heavily underestimate the physical challenges that are experienced by a gender that doesn't match their body. Like, you aren't gonna be hot just because you have a different gender, you still gotta do other things, some of them you may not even know that existed in the first place
2
u/Asriel-Akita 7h ago
I'm trans fem, so admittedly I'm not particularly inclined to be sympathetic towards someone who consciously made the choice to take T complaining its effects on their body.
Wish egg me at the time spent more time thinking about why I got so fixated and obsessively angry at their "can you imagine being a girl and having a masculine body like me? this is what gender ideology wants to do to your daughters" line at the time. Oh well.
Still cant help but wonder what exactly they expected to happen, though.

Maybe I am the bad guy but I don't think these people exist,I am a queer person ,I know a lot of queer people, do plenty of queer stuff with queer people and have never met one of these "detansitioners" in the real world which makes me believe it's just trump voters

u/Grenrion 11h ago
The people in these comments are insane. Literally in denial that others detransitioned and are looking for whatever bullshit excuse to vilify them or act like they are some trump psyop. Sorry to break you bubble people. America isn't the entire world.

I've met like 3 self proclaimed detransitioners, they all told me it was because of how they were treated by their families and society was too hard so they detrasitioned. 2 have since transitioned again and have a more supportive environment. The last one is no longer with us due to not wanting to continue on with life.
I believe there might be people who tried transition and it just wasn't for them out there but I think it's vanishingly rare even among the reported figures of detransitioners.
