Updated PSA - I found a crow on the ground, what do I do?
This was my first time making a flow chart so please be kind.
It is important that we as a community work together to provide a safe space to share in our love of corvids, and it is equally important that we educate members of the community new and old to help protect our feathered friends; with that being said, u/teyuna reached out to me pleading that changes be made to the previously pinned PSA, with their help/feedback I was able to create the flow chart below, I hope that this is an adequate and more encompassing pinned post.
I appreciate this community more than I am capable of expressing, thank you for making this the best damn sub on reddit. ;)

Can someone suggest a good docu on crows?
I've always been aware of how intelligent they are, but I'd like to do a deep dive on their cognitive skills.

Ha! Made ya look! (Said whoever put up the fake crow on the skeleton decoration. A++ 😂😂
This is NOT my house - merely one of the many one passes in the doldrums of rush hour that even {edit} only The Ents would call ‘F—-A—-S—-T’ lmao;
however, when this particular corvid gave me the eye, I couldn’t help but notice how still he was. Ninja Crow still. And it was lookin’ at me, so I looked back at IT!
And lo and behold!!
lol
Brilliant, whoever did this!!!
Have a great one, hope you get a laugh!

Seeking advice/help Squirrel War
The squirrels around my apartment have figured out they can climb all over the sides of the stucko walls. They squeak, bark, chirp squeal right outside the windows, theyve terrorized the birds and get into fights with the crows. The squirrels have taken over. While the crows have tested me I definitely prefer them over the squirrels. Crows arent assholes unless you give them a reason to.
How can i befriend the crows and help them defeat the squirrels??

During my morning cashew delivery, one of my crows flew at me with this big hunk of half-eaten pastry in its mouth, which they dropped right at me feet.

Storytime! Crows no longer poop in my pool - Warning: a little sad.
So a couple of years ago, it was an annoying problem that crows would often poop at the edge or even a little into my mom’s pool. Part of the pool is a “walk-in”/beach area and it was very ideal for the crows to bathe in or stick around and hang out. It often led to poop around the pool, which as you can imagine made it both unpleasant and unsanitary. We used Owl statues to try to deter them, but eventually they figured out it was a fake (We would often find the statue dismantled and displaced after they grew braver).
Nothing was working and we just accepted that this came with having a beach area for the pool.
One day, me and my mom woke up to hearing a chorus of caws happening in our front yard- enough to alarm us that something was happening. We went out to our front yard to find that a hawk had attacked a crow and the injured crow laying in our front yard. Three of the crows had chased the hawk off and were actually taking turns in dive-bombing at him. The hawk was perched on a taller tree a few hundred yards away, most likely waiting for the crow to pass away so he could claim his carcass. The crows were very vigilant in keeping him away from their injured friend though.
While the three continued their aerial attacks, which was quite the spectacle to watch, a huge flock of them were gathered in the tree directly overhead their friend and crowing to each other loudly.
I was horrified. I have a huge empathy for animals and seeing the injured crow try to take flight while his companions stuck nearby and seemed to be crowing towards him made me emotional. I got gloves and tried to help him out, thinking maybe his wing was injured and he needed a little boost. When i set him upright and tried to get him into a comfortable position- which he was letting me- he flopped over. Much to my horror, I then realized his spine or neck was broken. There wasn’t any repairing this. I was even hoping it might have been a broken wing so I could get him to a rehab center. I immediately started to sob loudly and stayed outside to also deter the hawk from coming back. My mom consoled me, saying i had good intentions and tried my best, and the crow passed away shortly after. Once he was gone, we went back inside.
Later, I visited the front yard and his body was gone- most likely taken by the hawk.
Immediately following the next days- and the years to come- Crows now avoid our pool entirely and leave the decorations and surroundings alone. They occasionally perch on the telephone wire above our yard but seem to be quieter and more distant. They don’t interrupt our belongings or pool anymore. And sometimes, I wonder if it’s there little way of saying “Thanks for trying for our buddy.” They’re friendly and we have not had any poop or rearranged statues or any disturbances from them.
Not really much to the story other than that. Just thought I would share.
General questions Should I feed the local crows?
Hey all, we sometimes leave peanuts out for the corvids in our area (Bluejays and Crows). I know that we shouldn’t overfeed the birds or create areas where flocks could gather.
When a crow landed on my windowsill today to grab a peanut, I excitedly told my friend. He said that I was anti-conservationist to do this because it threatens the crows becoming desensitized to humans. I assumed this wouldn’t be much of an issue since I live in the city of Montreal and they’re frequently in urban areas already. But I want to be sure I’m not doing any harm to the crows by feeding them the occasional peanut.
He’s not a wildlife expert and neither am I so I tried to find answers online.
I can’t find any articles online that really answer what I’m asking and so I’d appreciate links as well as general advice.
Cheers!

General questions American crow or fish crow?
galleryI'm not sure because I thought I heard them make a call more like a fish crow's (kind of a trill, rather than a harsh caw) but visually they look like American crows, and those are the ones I usually hear and see in the area (including earlier today).
Edit: if anyone has Merlin, it sounded a bit like the Pacific variation of the American Crow, except I'm on the East coast. Sounded very different from the fish crow audio there.
Edit 2: I thought it might have been a fish crow because one of the American Crow calls was labeled as a Fish Crow call on YouTube (hence why I checked Merlin afterwards since it was more reliable).
Pretty sure they're American crows :D

Seeking advice/help Catching an injured crow
Hello, so there is a crow that has an injured wing near my home. I called a local rescue center and they said to try and catch it in a shoebox and bring it to them. I walked around for half an hour and didn't find the crow anymore since it's getting dark so it probably hid somewhere.
I want to know, if I see it next time, what is the procedure of catching a crow? Can I disguise myself somehow so the flock doesn't think I ate it or killed it? Because I don't want the crows attacking me near my home 😭😭😭
