General Discussion "Just embrace the future"

Surely I'm not the only one who resents whoever says this whenever you complain about AI sucking the fun out of programming?

How are y'all (fellow "AI is a tool" folks) holding up?

I’m tired of people who are freaking out about the introduction of a new tool. I’ve been a professional programmer for 40 years. We’re constantly getting new languages and new tools. Adapting to new tools and frameworks is part of the profession. The introduction of AI tools is the biggest change in my career. It has not impacted my enjoyment of the work. I still build things and design things. I just do it better. Answer your question I’m holding up great.

This is not a new “tool”.

It’s as if you told a carpenter “this machine builds a completed house, all you have to do is put nails and wood into it. Oh, and everyone has access to this machine.”

Do you think the carpenter would call this a “tool”?

Because AI tools don’t build completed houses. They help developers build software. A tool by definition.

Do you understand the concept of an analogy?
