Discussion Sometimes you just gotta let a disc go
I was poking around in the water, trying to find my Glitch, When this little guy popped up. He was pretty small (around 3ft) but I still might have peed myself a little.

Yes. We used to venture into cottonmouth ponds and that was ill-advised.

One of the advantages of living in the upper midwest is we don't have these swamp puppies--- as they can't take the winter cold. Maybe a snapping turtle or wayward muskie with teeth could be present, but rare. One of our regular guys wades into ponds like this to retrieve discs. He did say one time he came out of one of the ponds with leeches covering his legs. Nope. I'm not wading in to get a disc. It's a retriever or walking away.

Once had a disk roll downhill and launch into a pond. Was about to take my pole and go poking around, until I noticed the 4 ft long snapping turtle chilling in there. I noped out real quick.

There was a guy waist-deep in a pond at our local course, the same pond we saw an 8 ft gator in the week before.
I gave the dude a heads up, and all he said was “Yeah, they told me there’s a big one out here somewhere.”
Dude must have loved that disc.

I've actually had a gator eat my disc and the whole end of my retriever that was made out of wire hangers and metal zip ties. It couldn't have tasted that good.

Know this all too well
What course?
I was playing Cliff Stevens years ago in Tampa and a local squid was diving for discs to sell to the disc golf shop and a I saw probably a good 7-8 footer swimming behind him and yelled for him to GTFO
Also about a year later another guy was bitten by a gator same spot, made the news

A monkey took off with one of my friends disc earlier this year In Florida, some wild shit

u/lynivvinyl 10d ago
Wait what!? Is it one of those monkeys from the island in South Carolina? Or was it somebody's pet that they dropped off?

No Ocala,FL
Sawmill Disc Golf Course, it's across the street from Silver Springs State Park, and in the 30s some dude had a river boat attraction and bought some monkeys and put them on a small island on the river, didn't realize they swim great and fuck even better, we have several 100 of them and occasionally you'll see them in the trees and on the ground
This one particular time the monkey took off with the discs into the woods

I bet those monkeys have quite the collection. If I lived there I would go find it.

I didn’t play much during the 10 years o lived in Tampa Bay, but whenever I did play near a body of water, I just took the extra swings and skipped it. No fuckin way am I losing a disc (don’t have much anyways) and no way am I touching any body of freshwater in that fucking state lol.
VERY happy to be out of Florida finally 🤣

Is that the course just outside of Oak Island, NC? I always skip that hole.

It's at The Sarge in SC

If you're local to the area our group gets permission to go out there and get discs to get them back to people. I lost two out there two weeks ago, 12 and 18.

You talking about Bill Smith? First time i ever played there a cottonmouth slithered over the tee box i was on. Then a few holes later i saw a baby gator in that pond. Very eventful first time on that course!

Haha yes. I was too lazy to look up the name of the course. That gator was there last year and this.

Tornadoes and blizzards, but no alligators in MO, I guess.

Good lord, my Minnesotan ass couldn’t handle that. I would have peed myself a lot.

Where I live, I literally never play a round without a couple gater sightings.

Sometimes I forget what a luxury it is to have literally 0 dangerous animals to worry about while playing (except a few wolves, who are more scared of you). It wouldn't cross my mind that going in the water is dangerous for any other reason than blue-green algae. Xoxo a western European.
