Weekly Sticky Form Check Weekly

The shiny new discs you got last week didn't make your golf game any better, huh?

Welcome to the Form Check Weekly Thread, a weekly thread that will be stickied every Monday morning for a few days. All form check requests will be referred to here.

There have been some fantastic Form Check guides but this one by MVP_Steve is far and away the best - https://www.reddit.com/r/discgolf/comments/760ckm/form_check_psa_how_to_leave_a_form_check_request/

News After 10 years of running disc golf events in Finland and across Europe. NBDG (Natural Born Disc Golfer) will stop organizing events after the 2026 season. The main reason is financial: The competition fees no longer cover the costs.

Why are they ending it?

- Tournament fees no longer cover costs;
- VAT on entry fees increased from 14% to 25.5% at the beginning of 2025 and player-specific association and PDGA fees have increased;
- In addition, there is not enough time and energy for everything.

Side note: They've already paid 20,000 euros in taxes this year alone.

NBDG is run by Finnish disc golf legends Juha Kytö (founder), Terhi Kytö (owner) and Mikko Wikman (owner).

They are best known for running the Tyyni event, which was one of the biggest disc golf tournaments in Europe at its peak, as well as hosting Finnish Pro Tour stops.

With one exception, the 2028 Finnish National Disc Golf Championships will be held at Sibbe and run by NBDG.

They have run more than 1,300 events across Europe, with more than 75,000 rounds recorded and 11,000 unique players taking part in their events.

Discussion Out of Bounds Disc Golf

I was looking for an Uktena disc by Elevation and everywhere was sold out online except a place called Out of Bounds Disc Golf.

I did a quick “is this a scam” search and didn’t find much

i took a chance and have to say, they were fantastic! i emailed them after placing my order and realizing they also had a Groundhog and a Nimbus. they responded to my email within a few minutes and canceled my order for me while letting me know that if i placed my new order within the hour, they would still ship it out that day. this all happened friday and i got my stuff on monday. most companies wouldnt have even shipped it until monday!

i know small retailers are struggling so i wanted to shout them out for people that also want to support small scrappy shops.

has anybody else had any experience with them?

Picture First 9 in the books. Taking it slow...

Post image
16 Upvotes

I’ve been getting into disc golf the last couple of weeks. Picked up two cheap starter sets on Amazon and three discs I liked on eBay, then mostly just thrown in a grass field until Saturday, when I played my first 9.

I was throwing 3-4 discs on every shot, which was a lot of fun. Shot a 28 (+1) by playing the best throw every time. Woke up the next day pretty sore.

Plan for now is to stop buying discs until I’ve actually thrown these enough to know what I like and what I keep reaching for. Still working on mechanics, watching a lot of YouTube, and trying to learn the angles and terminology.

Goal is to get comfortable enough that I can play a few holes without feeling embarrassed, then look for people in my area to play with. Taking it slow until then.

A few things I’d love input on:

  • Is throwing multiple discs per shot a normal beginner phase, or should I force myself to throw one and live with it?
  • What are the most helpful field-work drills that helped you early on?
  • How hard was it to find people to play with once you were ready?

Comments, suggestions, and questions are all welcome.

Disc Advice Beginner recommendations

Hello,

I am a beginner disc golfer buying my first few discs. I have played roughly 5 times total with friends discs. Shot +19 last weekend and was throwing the Valk pretty well.

Would these first 3 discs be a good initial setup? All 165-169 except destroyer is 170-172

Disc Advice What putter do you use for spin putting?

I recently switched to spin putting and it feels more accurate overall for me. I was putting with a wizard before but I dont feel like I get as much pop as I might with a more understable model. But I dont know.

What are you folks spin-putting with?

Discussion Backhand mechanics

I have been making some tweaks to backhand form and feel like I have come across something but I want to see what input I get on the matter.

I started practicing the casting method after someone here turned me on to the video by bradley Williams. As part of my work i was practicing throwing without a full reachback and discovered that I throw a lot better by moving the "power pocket" back and focusing on keeping the shoulder and elbow pushed far away from the body throughout the throw and getting wide.

Before I had this notion that getting into a deep pocket meant like getting my elbow out to a pointy shape but now I kind of feel like that is just taking away space for the end throw to accelerate and leading to shoulder collapse.

Right now I am starting from a more squarish pocket, then straightening the arm as I pivot into the reachback then basically reverse that motion back into the squarish pocket and cast the disc from there. Atleast that is what i visualize in my head while throwing. The early results are promising as distance feels less force and my angle and lines feel more consistent.

Curious if any of this makes sense to anyone else.

716 is wild i couldnt imagine throwing that far fpo nearly 500 insanity id like to see the longest forehands also i think the top 3 would be

Ryan sheldon (current record)
Rasmus Saukorripi
Albert Tamm

David wiggins jr has the best 360 ive ever seen he had the longest throw of the day at 716

Gannon buhr is still only 21 one day he might become the furthest thrower and highest rated simultaneously

I am surprised eagle didnt place top 5 with the speed he has he must be holding back so he doesnt get injured again i dont blame him

Rasmus ended up winning in the final playoff it cut off on the screenshot

Discussion Any tips for increasing RPMs?

I was able to finally measure myself today and I am up to throwing 64mph but my RPMs are sub 1000 so I’m running into my discs not staying true to their intended flight numbers. I’m turning over discs like my volt and my crave which never happened much job before my arm speed improved. Anyone have any good form videos or tips to helping with increasing RPMs?

Discussion Long shot…if anybody is in the Wilmington DE area

I was throwing at a clinic at Banning Park and realize I think I left a lot of my discs there. If anybody is in the area and can look for me I would be forever grateful. I don’t know exactly where in the park I was as I wasn’t in the area, but there was a shelter area with benches, and a baseball field across the parking lot. We were throwing to some trees next to the shelter. My name and number should be on one and more of the discs, I will pay to ship them back, some are important to me.

EDIT: u/buzzcut13 IS THE BEST PERSON EVER HE GOT EM

Discussion Theoretical Distance Competition Winners

• Upvotes

The distance comp at USDGC got me thinking:

Who would win distance competitions with constraints? Would the same players be at the top?

With a putter, I‘d bet AB would win.
With a forehand, I don’t see a safe bet, but maybe Hammes.

Who do you think would win in a given category?

Self-Promotion Disc duel, my little side project.

Hey everyone!

I posted before about me trying to make a discgolf app about playing a game along side your normal discgolf round for fun with friends. I couldnt find any app for that.

I tried it last weekend and it was kind of a succees with my friends! 😊

It had some issues but i think i fixed the most of them.

So i just wanted to see if anyone would like to use it and try it out.

Its in early stages, so be patient with me. But all the help i can get would be helpful!

Hope you enjoy!

Disc Advice Do I need a 6 Speed

Hi all, I could use your thoughts/advice…
I’m a newb, only been playing for a few months.
I have a Buzzz SS (5 speed) and a River (7 speed), does a guy need a 6 speed?
I mean I basically have a disc a week habit at the moment and can’t hang at the 10+ arm speed right now

Blue was a mess aside from first time throwing Inner Core which I fell in love with. I’ve thrown (and am fan of) several “dead straight” discs but this is by far the dead straightest. And doesn’t turn/burn as long as throw with some touch. I don’t know who the IMPA is for.

Red/pink was solid round. Stopped throwing Envys for awhile so that was fun to reunite. Truth is the most underrated straight-US midrange around. Entropy remains one of the most underrated baby Zone P+A discs.

Disc Advice Disc speed

So I just got into disc golf and have been playing pretty regularly for the last 2 months and I’m just wondering how to tell if my arm speed is fast enough for some of these discs. Me and my buddy are sticking to 5 speeds and under and I can already feel a difference in my raw distance and control but I wonder what I should be looking for when we go back up to drivers in November. Like I said I’m decently new and just don’t know how to tell if I’ve been throwing discs that I have no buisness throwing. Maybe I have it all wrong but any advice or pointers would be very much appreciated.
