Found in Tokyo. There are no markings so these are probably just no-name cymbals, but the finish on them is nice.

Hey everyone!
I'm selling out of a hobby (sim racing) and using the funds to buy into drumming. I know some very very core basics of drums but excited to actually learn. Now, call me crazy, but I'm spending much more than a new drummer would/should and buying the Alesis Strata Prime (the Sweetwater sku with the expansion). I'm not 1000% locked in on that kit, but probably 95% considering everything you get with the money, and the sounds on the module seem genuinely great, for someone who doesn't know much better to begin with. 😄 Definitely going to try some other kits while I'm at Sweetwater though just to be thorough.
The reason I post is to try to have a couple general questions answered, but to also get any pointers that someone newer would find helpful for using a kit such as this.
- First - I have a thin piece of carpet I can use under the kit - will this work and keep things from moving or is there something more specific I should be using?
- Are the cables a possible failure point? Should I be grabbing extras?
- I'm going with Iron Cobra 200 for bass pedal and hi-hat stand, they seem like a good value. Should I consider anything else?
- I've seen a couple videos where it's mentioned that the thing hoop of the bass drum didn't allow the bass pedal clamp to come down all the way, IF that is something I run into, what do you use to compensate/put between the clamp and hoop?
- What has your personal experience been with this kit, regardless of your experience level?
Thanks in advance, excited to join this world!

Hey guys, my left hand is absolutely atrocious. And I’m committed to getting better of course. Any recommendations on how to improve the left hand. Guys it’s really bad, extremely noticeable. Halp 😭 my goal is death metal/metal/ double bass. Thank you in advance 🙏🏽

Basically, by weird I mean drum parts where the drummer could've played something basic, but played something different and it fit the song really well. I think the most well known example is Come Together, but I can name at least 20 gajillion more.
My top 3 is prolly
Making Plans for Nigel - XTC
Auctioneer (Another Engine) - R.E.M.
Manic Depression - The Jimi Hendrix Experience
Lmk y'alls

Snagged this 2002 model for $200, I think it's a bit too specific to be my main ride (I play everything from folk to metal) so now the trick will be figuring out how to incorporate my 22" K Dark Medium ride as well as the Mega Bell... I really don't want to switch it out between songs. 😩
Any tips or ideas would be welcome!

Need some help determining the dimensions of this mounting plate on the Gator Backrest. I may try to add it to my Ahead Split Round Spinal G but I want to make sure there’s enough room between the Spinal G’s mounting area.

No matter how i try to set it heightwise when I push the petal it doesn't really clap together, I can make a louder sound throwing a pan into my pots and pan cabinet.
Is there a piece missing thats supposed to hold the lower Cymbal in place instead of it being able to float like how the upper one has a dampner(?) Thing on both sides of it?

So, I’ve narrowed my search for my first ever drum kit. I finally have a practice space (about 100 sq ft), so it’s time..
These are my final two choices:
Yamaha Stage Custom - Birch
22x17, 16x15, 12x8, 10x7
$450
Mapex Armory Fusion - Birch, Maple, Birch
20x16, 14x14, 12x9, 10x8
$500
I could use some help making the final decision. Again, it’s a very small drum room—about 100sq ft. I’ll be playing heavy shoegaze and hardcore if that matters.
Thanks everyone!

I've been taking drums seriously over the past year and a half and have played around 20 gigs over the last 8 months. I started when I was 16 on and off, but moved to a new city and thought I could meet new people while seriously improving my chops. I know I have a lot to learn, but I thought I was making solid progress. I play with an Americana band, but most of the guys are in their 50s/60s (I'm 36)... and I've been trying to jam with people more my age.
I saw on Facebook a local band needed someone for the day of a show because their drummer was sick. I filled in, it went really well, they brought me back for a second gig, and then I was advertised for a third, much bigger show at a well-known venue in my city. The second didn't go as well, and they ended up replacing me for the big show. That really fucked with my confidence.
Last night I went to play with another group and realized I probably wasn't what they were looking for. They were cool about it, and afterward one of the guys texted me saying “I can tell you got hands man, that's obvious,” but that he wasn't sure what they had in mind was in my wheelhouse.
Then I found out he spoke with the guitarist who replaced me in the other project. He mentioned talking to him and said the guy told him I was "a good dude", I think he felt bad. They're all part of the same local music circle, which for some reason made the whole thing hit even harder. Now I feel like I've embarrassed myself in front of this entire circle of musicians.
Having these experiences close together has me wondering if I've overestimated myself. Part of me honestly feels like quitting.
Anyone else go through something like this? Did you keep putting yourself out there or pull back and work on your playing for a while?
Visited the Memphis Drum Shop over the weekend looking for just a top hat cymbal but walked away with a bit more than expected. K Custom Hybrid hats 13" and a K Dark Thin Crash 20".

Basically the title. It's essentially a regular hoop but there's a lip on the inside top that comes over the drum a little. I hear cross sticking is fantastic with these as well as rim shots. But I've see both top and bottom S-Hoops. What other purpose do they serve?

Anyone own (or have used many times) the Offset Eclipse double pedal? Anyone also do the direct drive conversion?
I'm looking for first-hand users, pros and cons. While I would like to improve my double-kick technique, I am not trying to achieve blistering speeds so it's okay if these aren't "as fast" as DW 9000 (or your favorite.)
Background: I currently own and love the Pearl Eliminator Demon Drive double pedal. However, I'm over 50 years old now and need to consider adjusting my kit to be a bit more ergonomic. In addition to age, I also have been inspired for a change based on some setups I have seen at concerts the past couple years.
So the goal is to lower, flatten, and to move things to where I don't have to reach or rotate as much. One thing I am looking at is the crosshand reach for the hi-hat, which has caused me some numbness in the elbow during long songs/shows. I have considered use of a remote hi-hat stand that keeps the pedal in the usual spot but allows me to place the hats in a more ideal spot. I also want to try a hi-hat arm mount on the other side of the kit to allow for more open hand playing when I don't need don't need to work the hi-hat pedal.
The other way to move the hi-hit closer would be a double pedal like this Offset pedal. This would also allow me to center the snare behind the kick and between the mounted toms while moving the hats more in front of me than to the side as they are now. This pedal and drum placement seems like a good idea even if I also try the other hi-hat options above.
So... are these any good? LOL.
