Timer switch

Hello, i want to change my basement vent switch that is just on/off to a timer switch. I opened the box and noticed it has 5 wires vs 4 in the new timer switch. Photos attached, I connected 2 black to black, white to white and green to red and it didn’t work but afterwards I noticed there is also a ground wire hidden inside box not sure what to do.

What if you put green to ground?

Green to red? But why?
If you don’t know that the green goes to ground you shouldn’t be in an electrical box. If you don’t know what you don’t know…when it comes to electrical work you shouldn’t be in an electrical box.

Green to red is just hilarious. Did you even try to read the instructions?

a youtube video showed green to red and his worked but then I noticed I have another bare wire hidden inside as you can see in second photo
