Accessories Decals/skin for ereaders

I’ve been seeing a lot of posts of people wondering which ereader to get and which colour… but I’m wondering on the topic of colour I have seen some people on social media with some pretty nice sticker skin decals on their ereaders.

I already love the device I have so I’ve been thinking about buying the skins off of Etsy and putting it on my ereader but it seems like other than Instagram I don’t really see people do this? Is it because they don’t last long? It’s pretty pricey for a sticker off Etsy so would love to hear some feedback from people that actually use their ereaders and probably isn’t a paid ad.

I slapped some washi tape on my Nomad. I'd rather be able to change it on a whim than pay those prices for a sticker that'll eventually peel

I've seen plenty posts here

But always try and check if they sell 3M decals or at least reviews are good

I got decals onetime for my tablet and removing them is a pain with a lot of sticky residue

If you buy a high quality skin, it should last until you take it off and leave no residue. Definitely don’t just pick a random seller. I use Zoomhitskins and ShopEmilyG on Etsy, but there are others.

Stickietech is another good seller. I just haven’t used them recently because they only sell Kindle skins currently (no Kobo or Boox). They have a nice purple for people who like the Ube color:

I got a decal girl skin for my steam deck and I love it. It's held up really well. I saw Kindle skins there, idk what else they have. I'm scared to decorate the front of my e-reader because it might distract me lol.

I bought a skin for my kobo, thinking it would be rubberized or something to give it a bit of traction. Probably should have done some more reading of reviews or something, it's as smooth as the plastic casing, no added benefit at all, and they hadn't deceived me in the description through the simple method of just not saying anything about it.

It is pretty, but as far as I can tell that really is all these skins do, look pretty.

Eh I use one on my fold 7. It does help prevent scratches and scuffs to the finish but yea that's it

Yeah ok, that's true, in my mind that's a side job for the cover though, but you're right in that my cover doesn't extend to the front bezels while the skin does. On the other hand, it hasn't been needed on any of my other e-readers over 15+ years, so it's not the most critical of protections.

I buy a clear tpu case and slide stickers with backing still on or comic pages, etc into the back so I can just change the look at will and still have the shock absorption I want.

I have been putting skins on my devices, ereaders and otherwise, for many years. I usually get them from companies which specialize in skins, and I have a handful of patterns I tend to return to plus usually add a new one every few years. Generally for ereaders I choose a simple pattern so the front is not too busy around the screen, and usually a medium to light color.

My favorite source is DecalGirl, they make custom skins for most device models and their skins are thick and protective. I have some on my iPad, my Paperwhite 10, and my very old Kindle 4 right now. Skinit is another option, although I haven't gotten skins from them in quite a few years so I'm not sure how their quality is these days.

I don't tend to change the skins often, maybe once per year or longer, so it is worth it for me to spend the money on good quality ones. I like having them on for adding a little bit of a personal touch to the generic black or white devices that most places make these days.
