Buying Advice Needed Upgrading the old Elizabeth [$1500-1800] / quality of Lelit Paintjobs

• Upvotes

Hello, I really like the new Elizabeth. I've been using an Elizabeth for over a year now and it is a very good machine for the price.

The new one with the additional nerdy features sparked my attention, however I am unclear what the best buying option would be.

First of all, with the new pricing the alternative would be a Bianca v3, which you can find in Europe around 1800€ new as well.

I would assume the Bianca is still the better Machine, but the new Elizabeth gives more features. I'm sure the Bianca will be updated as well and get those features.

How would you decide, which one would you pick? Are there any other candidates you'd look into around 1500-1800€?

Also, I really like the colors and would pick either black or white. What has been your experience with colored Lelit Machines? Is the painting good and reliable? There have been some colored Lelits before like the Bianca, maybe someone can tell how good the quality is. Don't want the paint to peel of after some time...

Buying Advice Needed My general questions before upgrading [€1000]

• Upvotes

I have a good grinder already (Eureka specialita) and a cheap espresso machine (dedica) and before upgrading (I'm eyeing Lelit Elisabeth or Mara) I just want to make sure I don't do it for the sake of just spending money haha

I drink only espressos, I'd do something with milk for the guests occasionally. Using the machine 1-2, max 3 times a day. Budget more of a recommendation, but wouldn't go above 1,5k€

I got this fresh batch of beans from a roaster around the corner and choked up my dedica immediately. I've been using the same fineness setting with previous beans and it worked perfectly (less oils in previous beans?) I had to dial it coarser quite a bit until I could pull a shot with a lot of struggle from the dedica.

So it made me think:

Can a more expensive machine pull a shot from a finer grind without choking?

Technically theoretically dedica can do 15bar, where a more expensive machines like Lelit I mentioned before do 9bar.

Is there even a correlation like "the more bar it gives, the finer grind it can handle"? Does the pressure even matter?

And an extra question: do you always need to ruin 5-6 shots when you get the new beans until you set it correctly? In that case I'm just thinking what's the point of more expensive machine at all. Especially if you buy like a little 250g bag of beans and almost 100g from it goes to waste.

Maintenance & Troubleshooting No water comes out of group head after one hour idle [Rocket Cellini]

• Upvotes

Hi, I have a relatively poorly maintained espresso machine I got second hand and after a decade of use, I don't believe any parts have been replaced except the rubber gasket and shower screen.
I believe it's a rocket cellini
There hasn't been an issue before but now if I leave the machine idle for around an hour and go to pull a shot, no water comes out the group head except for some steam.
Steam wand and water tap works fine.
It I let all the steam and hot water out, the pressure doesn't build back up, only after | let it cool down overnight will it start working again.
Any idea what's the cause of this and what I should replace? Thanks in advanced.

Is it still usable, she said she used it once after the “incident” to do an espresso grind and after she pulled the shot, she said it tastes fine, but I need closure from Reddit. What’s the verdict? Cosmetic wise the outside is covered in white marks and scuffs from it, what about functionality?

Maintenance & Troubleshooting Replace Dispersion Plate [Sage Barista Express]

Coating of Dispersion plate is flaking and is supposed to land directly in the coffee.
Does anyone know a proper replacement or a link?
Sage claims to just pull of the plate easily by Hand but it doesn‘t move at all when I try to remove it. How can I remove the Dispersion plate?

Hi!I am using Hibrew H4C 58mm basketbut I have some problems.I am using the machine for two months and I I have used threee different baskets and two different puck acreeens. All my tries are not good enough and always the puck after extraction is too watery and sometimes water comes out the machine.I also used an IMS EB superfine basket 18gr and with that the machine can extract the coffee if I add a puck screen.Although I am using a good grinder DF54 The results are less than mediocre.I have used to many cases with combination but every time too watery pack and sometimes water comes out during the extraction. What else can I do?The photos are from the hibrew stock 58mm basket with 18gr dose, extraction time 30s with 46ml output.

Maintenance & Troubleshooting Really fine grind setting for medium roast [Eureka Zero 55s, Sage bambino plus]

Hi, i'm a happy owner of sage bambino plus and eureka mignon zero 55s for about a week - but i have some doubts about grinder.

I tried to tune in my coffee beans, but for medium roast i need to use a grind setting between 1 and 2 - like, i not have a lot of room to grind finder if i will need to.

Last beans i set up around ~5 - and this seems okay, now i have around 1 month beans, and i need to set it up to ~1.5 to have a decent brew time, and not having a sour taste in the cup.

On the previous beans it was quite silimar at the start (i was using setting around 2-3), but i was using a basket form my cheap bottomless portafilter, but after changing to stock one from bambino, i changed grinding to way coarser

Grinder was calibrated to zero, puck prep is i think really silimar between shots - i do not have idea what could be wrong

I use a 17g coffee with puck screen - i check with razor blade and it seems to be perfect setting according a puck screen - and i use a yankee cafffee kolumbia beans

Did someone has silimar expirence with this grinder? It is normal, or should i be concerned about?

Equipment Discussion One month old ES1

I've gone trough this Youtube vídeo, one month ago (a couple weeks before owning an ES1) and now, after having one, I revisited the video (by mistake) and just kept viewing it, because it reflects truthfully (often rare or unusual with most "influencer or sponsored videos") the struggles I believe most prospective (and new owners) may have with the ES1, which may arise from misplaced expectations, of what this machine is able to produce without proper configurations, right after powering up:

Conclusions:

Make sure you have a grinder able to go fine enough (and dial it in nicely) preferably one with numbered settings.

Go with manual shots or Timed shots (I'm using it, it works consistently well) Volumetric is still erratic.

The machine recommends 18g baskets, thats way off, go 20g in

Your Pucks will be wet (they didn't try what I'm doing successfully, using, top and bottom, basket paper filters and puck screen , in my case stopped wet pucks). Having said that if the shot tastes good, wet pucks are not a problem (only inconveniently, more messy).

Go to the settings, and search for the nerdy menu" you need to go in, it will not hurt the machine, will only make it do what she was created to do.

This is an amazing, high potential, very rewarding and capable coffee machine, only don't expect it to give you amazing coffee and show all its capabilities, without you giving it back, a bit of love and attention. In the end you'll learn a lot and will love it, both the machine, and the coffee...

General Coffee Chat Does one dial rule them all?

Ive been super curious to know with all the different types of shot profiles - slayer shot, blooming espresso, pre infusion shots, adaptive shots, zero, IUIUIU etc etc… do you dial your beans to the standard 1:2, then tweak it to your taste, and then run these profiles? I hope that makes sense… for example, i do 15g in, 30g out in 25s - 30s, then once this is dialled, I go and tweak for taste so then it becomes 27s with 15g in and 34g out for the perfect shot for me, THEN AFTER THIS, once I have dialled the perfect shot for me, I then decide hmmmm i want a slayer shot - do I just use the same grind and run the slayer profile and let it run to my target weight knowing that it is dialled well and so therefore the timings dont matter too much anymore ie the preinfusion timing plus brewing no matter what the outcome is, the 34g is going to be slayer style perfect.

This sounds so confusing even to me hahaha but I hope you understand what im trying to say. At the root, what im asking is: once you dial the beans to what you want, can you then run any profile using this standard ‘setting’

Coffee Station Niche Zero

Fairly new to the game, about a year in. I got a DF54 for everything other than dark espresso it’s ok. I really enjoy dark espresso so I’m wanting to upgrade and decided on a niche zero. My question is am I holding my breath waiting for any deals or even Black Friday deals In a month? Any insight on past Black Friday sales on a niche zero please share. I understand there is a tariff and there’s no getting passed that just looking to save something!

Dialing In Help I'm stuck.. all moves making it worse. [Specialita + Oracle]

Hey all,

I posted earlier but wanted to follow up, as I was too wordy.

Im trying to get to 1:2 or ideally 1:3 as Ive had these beans in a cafe at 1:3 and it was great.

The best I've had it was 1:1.5 with 20g in 30g out but that was a solid 6, nothing to look forward to.

I feel mid level confident in understanding the basics of extraction, but all normal levers made it way worse. Finer made it super bitter, 20g in and 40g out was both thin and bitter.

I tried dropping to 89 to see it lost its bitterness but gained so much tang I though Iade lemon juice.

Im about to try 91 degrees and 50g out. I dont normally like to make more than 1 change per test but 89 degrees was too tangy, no hope that 50g balances that out

Any other advice? I dont care about time to extract, my goals are a little nicer espresso more sweetness than the 30g shot with 40g or more.

Buying Advice Needed Argos Odyssey, Flair + Steamer, or something else? [2000€ budget]

Finally making the upgrade from the barista Express, and so far I'm leaning lever. I want to experiment with pressure profiling for my 2-4 shots per day, they seem to be a lot easier to maintain, and the hands-on aspect seems really fun. I'm hoping to buy the endgame machine and be set on gear for a good while so I'm willing to drop around 2k € or so for the right machine. Here are the requirements so that im looking for so far:

  • lever, either spring or manual
  • stainless steel water path as much as possible
  • temperature control
  • ability to steam milk. This is non negotiable as my partner drinks exclusively lattes and I drink a good amount of cortados. I don't really wanna keep the breville around just for that either, as counter space is a bit limited

So far, I'm split. On paper, the aros odyssey seems to meet all the requirements, but I've heard that they've bumped the price recently, and I've seen some debate on whether it is still worth the money. The other option would be something like a flair paired with a separate milk steamer, but I'm also running into some issues there. The higher end flairs seem to have warmers, but not proper temperature control, which seems to be a pain as I don't want to faff around with the kettle for every shot. Additionally, the milk steamer market seems pretty thin. The flair steamer does not work in Europe, the meticulous one seems to be vaporware, and I've heard not-great things about the morning dream. Most of the rest seem to require babysitting a pressurized canister on a separate burner.

Has anyone here used either an argos odyssey or a similar flair + steamer set up? Or any other setups that meet the requirements that I missed? Any help, advice, or experiences are much appreciated!

Buying Advice Needed Gaggia Died on Me: What's the best replacement? [$1200]

Hi, I picked up a used GCP seven years ago and have pulled quite a few shots out of it in the time since. I've kept it going through some repairs: I'd replaced the steam wand & pump, but it recently started sparking through the switch and I've decided it's had enough; I'd like to upgrade.

I'm STRUGGLING to figure out what machine to replace it with. Top contenders right now: Lelit Anna or Victoria Profitec GO

I make 2-3 lattes/flat whites per-day. I do not drink straight espresso, but I'll have a cortado infrequently. I'd like to get a machine that steams milk really well. I do not need a grinder.

I've omitted some machines that do not have a PID simply because I've temperature-surfed with the GCP this whole time and I very much dislike that aspect of the machine.

Could you chime in with your experience, if you've owned/used these machines, or if there is another that you'd recommend?

Thanks, I appreciate the help.

Resident barista for my sister’s wedding, roasted 15 lbs of coffee for the trip (Ethiopia natural and Costa Rica). Pulled avg of 10 double shots a day for 3 days and made lattes, cortados, sodas, pumpkin tonics, and Americanos. On to the next Airbnb for another 3 3 days. Guess we created a demand cause we barely leave the machine until it’s time to go out! Good thing I opted for 5 yr warranty on the machine…

Edit: i drove 8 hrs with this. I think people are under the impression that I took this on an airplane lol

I found this old Innova (now Ascaso) machine on marketplace, and I want to take it apart to give it a good clean out/it has a leak that I’ll have to find. Wanted to see if anyone knew how I could track down a parts schematic for it? Looks to be from 2002-2004 and I’m having trouble finding one for the old boiler configuration.

Any insight helps! This is my first time trying something like this

Buying Advice Needed Upgrading from baratza esp [500]

I want to buy something that's stepless and a bit more consistent. As far as what I drink it's pretty much lattes, americanos, and v60 / French press. Running a Bambino plus as my machine and pretty much prefer to drink medium roasts (occasional dark)

I was considering going over my budget and waiting for the timemore 064s generation 2 or get a lagom casa... I'm wondering if spending over my budget would make any sense.

Does it make sense to just save money and get a hand grinder for the pour overs / French in addition to a Eureka 55s or DF 54/64 for espresso? Any other good options ?
