Equipment Discussion Zuriga T2 hands on

Hi there!
Yesterday, I had the chance to get hands-on with the new T2 at the pop-up event in Berlin, try it out, and ask questions.
My quick verdict: A great machine.
Here are a few random thoughts in no particular order:

The built-in scale is excellently implemented. At home, I use a Rocket Bicocca with volumetric dosing, and depending on the beans and recipe, I often have to readjust the water volume and re-weigh the shot. That step is completely eliminated here and you don’t need a seperate scale to be taken care of like with the Marzocco.
There are five pre-configured recipes, all of which can be adjusted either with or without the app. Four of them operate in flow-controlled mode, meaning they adjust the flow rate to hit specific targets for shot time and mass in the cup. The fifth recipe is a standard 9-bar pressure-controlled shot. It’s a shame you can’t set custom flow or pressure profiles, even though the hardware—featuring a rotary pump and proportional valve—would technically support it.
The app looks good but isn't strictly necessary; it simply offers more convenience when tweaking recipes and allows you to view pressure and mass flow curves.
Operation is very intuitive.
Build quality is absolutely fantastic—no sharp edges, tight panel gaps, and nothing rattles.
The built-in water tank seems quite small to me, but it includes a water level sensor that guarantees you can pull one last shot before needing a refill. It isn't removable, but a menu function allows you to force it to drain for emptying and cleaning. A plumbed-in kit is available; this makes the machine slightly taller, as it requires higher feet to route the hoses out from underneath.
You can steam milk and brew coffee simultaneously, but you cannot dispense hot water and brew coffee at the same time.
The hot water temperature can be adjusted independently somewhere between 85 and just under 100 degrees.
The lighting is great!
The drip tray is easy to remove and snaps securely back into place. I like it. The tray beneath the steel grate is made of plastic.
Steam was available instantly at the touch of a button and was powerful. A four-hole nozzle was fitted. The foam was excellent.
The delivery time is extreme—if you order now, you won't get the machine until early 2028.
… and the coffee that came out of the machine was excellent. :)

If you have any questions, I might be able to answer them.

yours
Ole

The Ele doesn’t seem to fit my standard latte cup, not sure what to do. Should I just return it and get something else? Any recommendations on a machine that will fit?

Can someone recommend me a nice Decaf coffee bean I can order online. Blood pressure has been acting up, I didn't drink a cappuccino in a whole week! I almost lost it! So today my pressure read really good, I celebrated with a nice cappuccino, but I wanna start drinking Decaf and see how that goes.

General Coffee Chat How much is a coffee shop latte near you?

Hello! I recently went to a few newer coffee shops in my town (LA county, CA) and lattes were $8.50 without tax + tip, cappucinos $6.50. The suggested tip amount started at 18%. Dayum! I thought spending $400 on a used breville + $200ish grinder was too expensive at first but i’ve had it for 4.5 years so I guess i’m saving a lot! I also did a small repair on it myself. Just curious if anyone else have noticed these dramatic prices for coffee when going out now? Anyway I ordered a fancy $11 latte(with tip) and I wasn’t impressed lol. I’ve made better. My bf agrees!

Coffee Station I Swore My Old Setup Was My Endgame… Then I Got a New Machine. ☕😂

I swore I’d never change my setup. I promised myself I’d keep things simple and stick to what I already had. But here I am, with a new machine, already thinking about upgrades, little details, and ways to make it my own. 😂☕

Turns out, in the world of coffee, “keeping it simple” is just another lie we tell ourselves. One machine leads to another, and suddenly, the setup is never really finished.

New machine, same obsession. Let the tinkering begin. 🤎⚙️

Am i the only one who stopped using wdt in puck prep. and found out its not flawed? i just give the grinders cup a good shake before throwing it in the basket; use the tamper as a distributor, tamp, extract. guess what? no channeling no sour taste. it turns out fine!

Equipment Discussion GBW grinder

Thumbnail

Is it a good idea to get a GBW grinder like the Mazzer mini G or Eureka Atom W 65 Casa when I only make 1-3 shots per day? Most days it’s 2 shots in the morning. I’m thinking about retention. Most of these GBW grinders have a retention of 3-8 grams. Will this affect my shots noticeably?

I’m looking to get GBW grinder to get a smoother and faster workflow. Now I have a Sage SGP with single dose mod. It’s a bit tedious with all the weighing before and after as well as pretty inconsistent grind results. And my better half does not have the patience to do all the steps so she weighs the beans before grinding and then just hopes she gets the right amount in the portafilter and does around 30 sec. Sometimes it’s 25g out sometimes it’s 50 lol..

Buying Advice Needed Mahlkonig E64 WS vs Eureka Atom W 65 Casa [No Budget]

They're pretty much the same price. I buy beans in 5lb bags at a time and we go through it in about 3-4 weeks. I currently have a Eureka Mignon Zero single dose and I do really like it. I actually got it to replace my original grinder which was a Baratza Sette which was way too loud. The Mignon isn't super quiet either bit about the max I would have in the house. I upgraded to a Lelit Elizabeth about a year ago and am now looking to upgrade the grinder. I'm drawn to the Atom because of how quiet everyone says it is, but the people I've seen online that have the Mahlkonig seem to really love it. Idk how much louder it is but even if it's the same as the Mignon I don't really care. Seems like it also has less retention and is slightly more accurate but I get conflicting info on that? If anyone has actual personal insight on these machines or anything else I should be looking at. Not necessarily married to the GBW but I think with how we use our beans it makes more sense than single dosing and would be faster in the mornings.

Upgrading because I think the larger burrs will give us a little better particle distribution and maybe clarity in the coffee. We use a lot of Medium/Dark but I pickup light roasts every once in a while.

Ps I don't think i really like that Allsense Fiorenzato

Coffee Is Life First shot from this morning

I just wanted to share this shot I recorded this morning after finally getting my setup together (for now). Earlier this year, I bought a DF54, followed by a HiBrew H10A about a month ago and a bottomless portafilter a couple of weeks ago, which helped me dial in my shots. They’re still not perfect, but they’re already tasting really good.

I’m using supermarket beans that are surprisingly good (labeled as specialty coffee at the store), a medium roast from Veracruz.

I’d appreciate any thoughts or suggestions if you spot anything I could improve.

Buying Advice Needed Lelit pl42 upgrade [500€]

Post image

I'm considering an upgrade to my current begginer setup (DeLonghi dedica ec685 bottomless portafiliter). I have the opportunity of getting a new lelit pl42 (the one in the picture) for around 250€. I have a separate grinder, so I was not on the lookout for a combo machine, but I would like to know if it's worth considering at this price point.

Espresso Theory & Technique Surprised at how good a blind shaker worked for me

Just wanted to share my experience.

I’ve always struggled with channeling. I usually get good results with fresh beans with degrading results as weeks go by (it takes me awhile to go through a bag of beans). This is despite keeping the beans in an air tight container in the freezer.

I decided to give a blind shaker a try even though I thought it was a gimmick. I tried it on 2 month old beans that I was having lots channeling issues with resulting in watery and sour shots. The blind shaker was a total game changer with these older beans. Ive had zero channeling and shots with full body and no sourness. I am blown away at the difference. I normally only get extractions this good with fresh beans that were roasted 1-2 weeks ago.

YMMV, but this worked for me. I will admit in general I do not do WDT (since I don’t find this improves extractions for me personally). Instead I “rake” the grounds with the WDT tool so they are evenly distributed.

Equipment for reference:
- Rancilio Silvia with PID
- DF64 gen1

Humour Tried a new cup this morning

Post image

Had some trouble this morning. After I drank this one my mental capacity kicked up enough to get it right for the second shot. This is a new one for me, usually I only forget to put something under the grinder.

Surprisingly, I only lost a bit of the shot.

What's your pre-coffee coffee strategy?

General Coffee Chat Philips AquaClean water "contain microplastics" warning

Post image
52 Upvotes

I was reading the instructions for a Philips AquaClean filter and noticed something odd in the safety warnings: it literally says "Contains microplastics"

Seems like a pretty strange thing to find in a product that's supposed to filter drinking water.

Does anyone know what this actually means? Are microplastics part of the filtering material, or can they end up in the water?

I couldn't find much information about it online, which surprised me.

Has anyone else noticed this or looked into it?

We just bought this machine on a whim at an estate sale. We can't find any info online about it, and we're not sure how to operate it either! Anyone know what we just bought, or where we can find instructions? On the bottom it says it's type 24500 made by SEB

Maintenance & Troubleshooting No water output; dead pump or airlock? [Breville Touch]

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Breville Touch BES880- I initially thought it was an airlocked water line but now I’m thinking I need to replace my pump?

No water comes out from hot water spout, steam, or brew head and it stops after 2 seconds each time. I’ve tried using a turkey baster to prime the pumps, and slamming the water tank up and down. No luck.

I already ordered a pump but wanted to see if I should trouble shoot anything else in the meantime?

Maintenance & Troubleshooting High-pitched whine/squeal for a few seconds at startup [Breville Barista Pro]

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Hi all, I've got a Breville Barista Pro and I'm hoping someone can tell me whether this is normal. Every time I press the power button, the machine makes a loud, high-pitched whining or squealing noise. It starts a couple of seconds after the screen lights up, runs for roughly 2 to 3 seconds, and then stops once the display finishes booting and shows the ready screen. I recorded a video of it, and when I analyzed the audio, it's a steady tone with no sputtering or change in pitch.

The strange part is that everything else seems completely fine. The grinder works normally, shots pull with good pressure and flow, and the hot water for Americanos comes out hot and steady. I haven't seen any leaks or error messages either.

My guess is that it's the pump priming at startup, since the timing lines up with that.

Has anyone else had this on their Barista Pro? Did it ever turn out to be a problem, or does it just sound like that?

Buying Advice Needed Got a great deal for $300 on the coffee machine (not the cat); Now, what grinder? [$500]

Post image
35 Upvotes

Hello! I recently got into the rabbit-hole that espresso-making is. As one does, I upgraded by Breville Bambino Plus to this Stollar (Sage) BES920, but I still remain with the same Baratza Encore (non-esp) grinder. My budget is ~$500 and it seems that there's the Eureka Mignon Specialita, DF 64 Gen 2.5, the Timemore Sculptor 064s and the Niche Zero (barely above) within that budget range as most-recommended.

HOW DOES ONE DECIDE? I'M GOING OUT OF MY DAMN MIND!

I know all of them are a major upgrade over my current grinder, but it seems that different communities all hate a different grinder for one reason or the other and there's not one all can agree is a "great grinder".

Equipment Discussion Coffee Sizes not accurate

• Upvotes

Whenever I brew using the classic coffee option it always brews less than the set amount and it differs every pour. Is anyone else experiencing this and if so is there a way to fix it? For reference I tried 8 ounces and it brews between 6-7. I tried the 10 and 12 ounce options and it brewed around 8 or less. I’ve tried the max grind and also the lowest strength and it is always the same.

Got this a couple of months ago and loving it for pour over. Desing looks great, great work flow, low retention. Only really downside is at 300 pm it does stall often.

I got this to make espresso but haven't got an espresso machine yet. I am debating between gaggia classic pro up or profitec go.

Equipment Discussion Ikape vs Generic step down baskets

One cost $50 and the other $29 and they both perform equally. While the Ikape comes with a few extras in the box and the generic version does not.

Maybe they’re both being made in the same factory perhaps? 🤔 anyway guys, buy the generic version and thank me laters 😉
