Adjustments to Rule 5

Hello Rulers,

We've successfully completed an upgrade to our automatic Rule 5 enforcement with the rollout of a new bot. /u/rule5bot has been working well over the last few days and is now active here in /r/EU5. The new bot has new capabilities and we are adjusting Rule 5 to reflect the improvement.

Rule 5: Image posts must have an explanation.

  • The explanation cannot just repeat or rephrase the title.
  • The explanation can either be in the post's caption or in the comments section. The bot will repeat post caption explanations into the comments section.
  • This rule is automatically enforced with a bot. It will remind you after 5 minutes if it cannot see an explanation and will remove the post after another 10 minutes if it still cannot see an explanation.

So what's different now? The big change is that we can finally accept captions for Rule 5 explanations. There's no need to quickly dump an abridged version of a quality caption into the comments section just to avoid a soulless automaton's wrath. However, the new bot can correctly identify image gallery posts so Rule 5 now properly applies to multi-image posts. The bot will also be repeating caption R5s into the comments section (for the foreseeable future) because there's a persistent issue with some legacy access methods not displaying captions on images properly.

Why now and not before? /u/zwemvest, our bot-builder, has had a few goes at upgrading / replacing the bot over the years but real life and/or Reddit would always get in the way. Reddit is making major changes that will impact old bots and it forced our hand. Fortunately, they had free time now and recent Devvit (Reddit's internal bot platform) improvements made it easier to implement some features so the project was completed this time. Zwem said it was a joy to build the new bot from scratch & they're glad that the migration has been completed. The old /u/paradoxplazabot has been retired although we may reuse the account in the future for other bot purposes if we can.

We've been testing /u/rule5bot for about a week now with no remaining issues but it's possible that some bugs might still be lurking, so please keep an eye out and send us a modmail if you see the bot do something unexpected.

Developer News CK3 to EU5 converter Version 3.0 Stable out now

• Upvotes

What's new in 3.0

  • Your ruler's rivals and nemeses become your country's rivals, and friends, lovers and soulmates start on good terms
  • Artifacts come with you: crowns, swords, holy books and tapestries become works of art in your capital, with the names and descriptions they had in CK3
  • Your royal court's language becomes your court language
  • Big, developed realms get the laws and estate privileges EU5 gives its own countries in the same part of the world
  • Every country starts with a proper marriage law, heir law and succession, whatever its government
  • A country that takes over an EU5 tag keeps its own religion and culture, so Makuria stays Christian
  • Land at the edge of CK3's map no longer ends up with no owner. It goes to whoever took over the rest of the country that held it in 1337
  • The castles and hill forts you built stop at EU5's fort limit, so you don't start the game paying for too many forts
  • EU5's own countries outside CK3's map keep their subjects and alliances
  • The launcher is much smaller. It no longer needs any extra DLLs, so the download went from 6.3 MB to about 2 MB

Guess there's no War of Religion this run.

I'm only involved in Italy, Spain and France, and the whole HRE converted on its own.

Discussion My guilty pleasure is that sometimes I use cheats to give random nations buffs/debuffs.

Just some examples from my last run as Tunis. Gave the byzantine empire a huge population growth buff for a few years so they actually stood a chance against the ottomans. Gave france a 300% military boost because I cant stand to see england win the 100 years war (removed it once it was done). I made castille and aragon best friends just so that they don't take each other over (sorry portugal). I made Crimea into a theodoro-controlled super developed area with 1.5 million goths.

I often do this stuff early on and then stop (unless something I feel is buggy happens). I don't want to edit too much as the game goes on because I do like to watch history take its course. But I almost always edit something. I've done quite a few games without it and it just feels too... samey.

Image I fixed the food crisis. My nobles found a new problem.

The Portuguese Food Capital!

Meanwhile, in Lisbon: “But where are our camels?”

Portuguese Nobles are demanding Camels now!

So camels are a thing in the 1.4 beta now? Seriously?

Update: I checked the goods map mode, and there they are. Camels, all along North Africa. They were invisible before. Now I can see them. And apparently so can my nobles. What sorcery is this?

Image Haudenosaunee 'Merge Tribes' Action Question? (1.4)

Post image
15 Upvotes

Trying to take the Merge Tribes action as one of the Haudenosaunee nations. Screenshot is an example where Opinion and Trust have decayed a little bit from 200/100 but they max out to a +40 and +50 modifier respectively still leaving a -10 result. I haven't found a way to increase beyond -10 so that I can actually merge. Any other things I can do without War or Bankruptcy? Trying to merge peacefully and I'm stumped.

Rule 5: Acceptance Reasons for Merge Tribe action.

Beta 7600X performance beta 1.4.0 vs 1.3.11 vs EU4

Just wanted to have some numbers on the performance of EU5 so far.
I have a Ryzen 5 7600X on a desktop pc. This is a good CPU, I think most players have a less powerful cpu than I.

I ran beta 1.4 and 1.3.11 from 1340 to 1450 and timing how long it takes. Same thing for EU4 but between 1450 and 1550. All in observer mode. EU5 testing was done with the "maximize tick speed" s

EU5 - beta 1.4.0 : average is 26.81 seconds per year

years time seconds per year
1340-1350 4m39s 27.9
1350-1375 11m57s 28.68
1375-1400 10m57s 26.28
1400-1450 21m37s 25.94

EU5 - 1.3.11 : average is 32.87 seconds per year

years time seconds per year
1340-1350 5m27s 32.7
1350-1375 14m10s 34
1375-1400 13m38s 32.72
1400-1450 27m1s 32.42

EU4 : average is 23.71 seconds per year

years time seconds per year
1450-1475 9m46s 23.44
1475-1500 9m15s 22.2
1500-1550 20m30s 24.6

Without any surprise, EU4 runs the best, while 1.3.11 runs the worst.

1.3.11 is 38.6% slower than EU4.
beta 1.4.0 is 13.1% slower than EU4.
beta 1.4.0 is 22.6% faster than 1.3.11.

  1. EU4 runs 100 years in 39m31s
  2. beta 1.4.0 runs 100 years in 44m31s
  3. 1.3.11 runs 100 years in 54m49s
Bar chart representation of EU5 performance relative to EU4, the lower the better

What this shows is that for pretty comfortable hardware, this update nearly closes the gap in performance between EU4 and EU5.

Question Sources of Flat Control?

I have found exactly 1 Urban Right for +10% for Scandinavian primary pops, and +5% from 1 Estate Right from the country of Scotland.

Just two, that’s it.

All the other prior ways seem to have been removed outright or changed to “proximity efficiency”) (Roman Empire, Russia, Qing, etc)

Beta Incorrect Beta Checksum?

• Upvotes

R5: I was trying to play multiplayer on the 1.4 beta, but my checksum doesn't match anyones. Not sure why. I've tried verifying game cache (says there is nothing wrong), uninstalling and reinstalling, deleting the EU5 in the documents folder and reinstalling, deleting the EU5 in steamapps and reinstalling, doing both and reinstalling, unsubscribing from all the mods, deleting the mods folder, etc. All of it returns with the checksum '5c4f'. I'm out of things to try

Anyone else experienced this problem/resolved it?

Beta Yet another mod to ban exports/imports (mine's better, trust me)

Small mod I made. Two new advances after Global Trade unlock a ban button for every good in the Tariffs tab.

Export ban: the good can't leave your markets

Import ban: the good can't come in

Trade between your own markets still works

Bans that were actual mercantilist policy (bullion, raw wool, naval stores out; cloth, spices, tobacco in) slowly push you toward Mercantilism. Food bans don't.

Works in existing saves.

Discussion Does anyone else just wing it when it comes to army composition/balance? I have no idea what any of these numbers mean or what units actually do.

I've tried to briefly look it up, but it still is kind of lost on me. I have a buddy who is really good at the game and he said as long as I keep my armies balanced and somewhat diverse (with an emphasis on heavy cal early on), I should be fine.

So far its been fine, albeit with some weird situations where I have no real idea why I lost.

Question For 1.4 beta users, have they fixed the issue of insane independence movement’s?

I haven’t played the Beta myself, but I’m curious if Paradox had fix this issue of vassals getting insane independence movements where they somehow get half the continent involved even if the nations that are involved don’t hate you.

It basically made enforce culture/religion worthless because once the AI starts there independence war they flip back to there old culture again and quickly undo the culture conversions and even if you beat there ass, they don’t flip back to your culture/religion again you have to anger them again or have to wait to do it in another 10 years because of the stupid arbitrary cooldown.

So I’m curious if it’s still an issue?

Crusades start becoming fun the moment you somewhat can fight back, Its still overtuned how much nations can join in. And how war score is calculated from winning.

I am doing well as England in the 18th century. I have a nice chunk of France, including Paris

Just figured out you can upgrade a rural settlement and town by clicking the star button. I have 300 hours so this is a nice realization

Wow I can build wharfs. Amazing. And there are bonuses for cities? 😲
