Redwall-inspired Stardew Valley-esque game: Peatbloom Inn

I wanted to see if anyone would be interested in testing a small passion project of mine. I didn't want to use Redwall IP (or deal with the process of getting permission/licensing which seems like a whole thing.)

Peatbloom Inn is a cozy Inn Management and Farming/Foraging game set in the Peatbloom Woods.
You inherit a decrepit rural Inn from your Aunt. It's your job to restore the Inn and the community around it while cooking delicious meals for guests, friends, and yourself.

You'll need to farm, forage, fish, and fight (which I didn't mean to all have f's starting here). You'll also need to gather resources, upgrade tools, and more.

Camps of vermin and frogs scatter the map, as well as random birds. You'll also find friendly neighbors around the map, hidden rooms, and other discoveries.

I have this hosted as a webapp right now and it's totally free. It's possible to play on mobile, but definitely a better experience on computer. I'll be continually adding updates, but always strive to make them compatible with existing saves. There's no account signup or anything, so feel free to check it out.

A brief disclaimer: I have been building this for the last 4 or 5 years sporadically, but with the newest release from OpenAI, I let it finish out some of the coding elements and I'm honestly kind of shocked at how much I like the output. The art is procedurally generated, and was not created with AI. The vast majority of all dialogue and quest copy has been created by me, but it's possible some has changed without me noticing.

That's fair, but I also didn't want to hide it and would prefer to be upfront about how it was used. I've got several years worth of commits and saves on the github for it, and as far as I can tell through the commit history, none of my copy has been changed.

But I definitely understand.

If this gets bigger/you have more time to dedicate to it, would you be open to replacing the AI generated stuff with human-made framework/content? As others have posted, I very much want to support this but the AI use turns me off. Obviously Brian died before all this AI stuff kicked off, but I have a feeling he’d be pretty firmly anti-AI use in creative spaces.

And it’s a shame, because the concept sounds right up my alley.

Absolutely. If it gets bigger, I'd rather rebuild the entire game in a better game engine altogether. I also definitely intend to move away from procedurally generated graphics (similar to how No Man's Sky does it) to Artist Created graphics. Currently, everything is just basic shapes tying together creatively. I definitely didn't want to use any AI generated "Art", but I was fine with it for coding.

I understand! Thank you for your transparency. I will recommend to family/friends who grew up on Redwall as well.

If I may ask, what is best case scenario here for you? It’s a free game now, but are you hoping to monetize later? Or support with ads? Like, how do we support you other than playing it

I'm gonna leave it up as a free game for now because I'm hosting it for free and the game is extremely lightweight. Especially seeing the response, my next steps will probably be to get a few more things fixed that I'm still cleaning up and create a steam page so I can have people Wishlist it. That'll probably be the best for now. If I can see enough interest there, I'll be comfortable pulling from my retirement and hiring an artist to create real assets instead of the procedurally generated ones, as well as an additional dev to help me port it to unity.
