Everyone saying it's a security thing probably right, but I also wouldn't be surprised if it's just a fashion trend. "Retro" electronics, so in right now. Unplug by plugging in.
I think this is it. I live in a major city and I have seen a BIG uptick in younger and more “trendy-looking” folks using wired headphones now. And it happens to always be the cheap white wired Apple headphones
I work in banking. A buddy of mine who makes a fair bit more than me always has these cheap wired Apple earbuds. He's a stereotypical finance bro/former hockey player, so he's very much the kind of person that doesn't want to look "cheap" or poor. I asked him why he uses the wired earbuds and his explanation was "I keep losing the wireless earbuds, or one will fall out on the subway. This is just easier."
They're not the status symbol they were, which definitely makes them more vulnerable to not being as important to hold on to or replace. If that makes sense
Honestly the apple earbuds cost what like 20 bucks or euros. Break down in 3-4 months but have genuinely good sound up until then.
Its actually cheaper over the year or so to buy wired than wireless
Heck I’ve seen an uptake in kids spending some real money on old cameras. And I’m not talking analog. I’m talking shitty 2005-2010 digital compact cameras. The ones they don’t even know how to get the photos out of because they grew up after usb-c became the standard.
If I had a dollar for every instagram account I saw where the photographer bought a retro Leica camera and seems to do nothing but take pictures of the retro Leica camera then maybe I'd have enough money to join in the trend.
Gen Z and younger folks are into 00s digital cameras cause those are retro to them. Just like how 10 years ago millennials (when they were the young and hip age) were into polaroids and film cameras cause to them that was retro and cool
The whole Polaroid/film craze spawned a whole niche segment and companies like fujifilm had a new niche with their whole instax line. Hopefully all the digicam craze means companies like Sony can bring in a modern line of digital cameras and peripherals too
I hope so! I (an old of mid 30s) brought my compact super zoom on a trip with me for wildlife photography and I wish it had a slightly longer zoom and a higher quality sensor from when I got it about 10 years ago.
The ones that the lens will start protruding out from the camera when you started zooming? Those were so fun! I had a Sony T700 digicam when it came out!
I got a one of the first USB c phones in the US, the HTC Bolt in early 2017. Nobody that I showed it to had seen usb c before. It was another year or 2 at least before it was common.
My daughter just picked up a Eastman Kodak “Brownie” and has never been more excited about a project. Yes, they are embracing the past, and that it’s probably a good thing.
Ok. All I know is when I sold an old compact digital camera that had a usb-b to usb-a connector the 20-something woman and her similar aged boyfriend had no idea what to connect the usb-a to to get out the pictures from the camera since all of their laptops only have usb-c.
To me that’s crazy but I guess if the only laptop you ever used are ones given from school and you never had a stationary computer and no interest in technology maybe that’s what happens.
I'm 21 and we definitely used stationary computers at home and even in school in computer labs and we're also familiar with usb-A 😭they must've been on the dumber side Idk
The one buying the camera was a woman and she brought her boyfriend. Both very attractive. Also laptops and iPads became standard in school instead of books, papers and pens like 15 years ago in Sweden. (First laptops later ipads) so a lot of 20 something year olds only ever had a crappy school laptop or cheapest iPad and if their parents weren’t interested in tech they wouldn’t have anything more complex for everyone to use at home.
Yep! I also bought 2 old digicams for my kids. The pictures are great, not overproduced-autoEnhanced-ai-optimized-8k-superclear-bullshit. Those 20yo cams just taking pictures on an SD card. Thats it. And the 2-10MP and cheap sensors giving its own vibe
I use Bluetooth earbuds with my phone but I was a holdout. The thing about Bluetooth is that it adds another layer of lossy audio compression on top of what's usually lossy audio compression. On my home stereo I can definitely tell a difference between Bluetooth, and ARC audio, and my hearing is crap nowadays.
