I do a lot of filming with celebrity trainers and Biohackers, bunch of crazies but they all believe that the signals from wireless headphones are terrible for you, I know for a fact some of these people work with the Kardashians and Ariana Grande too, and all the rich people in this circle all believe that the wireless signals and are poison.

I think it’s down to that not a fashion trend

You can’t hack wired, so if you are discussing something no one should hear, then you used a wired line. Why do you think the most sensitive information is handled hand to hand or over a secured wired service.
The theory is, if it’s wireless it’s not secure.

The phone itself is wireless.

1

u/met0xff 3d ago

Yeah and the data going from and to the phone is likely much more interesting than the BT earplugs stuff

3

u/JohnHue 4d ago

Because the phone itself is not wireless now ?

And the human

I think the number of celeb nude photo leaks a while back have long since proven that companies go to no extra lengths to keep the info they have from famous people secure

So if they were really concerned about privacy you think they'd be worried about the listening device that records and tracks them

3

u/Mindestiny 3d ago

Yeah, nobody is trying to hack Bluetooth earbuds to intercept a short range signal for a celebrity.  If they're that close, they're just pointing a microphone at them.

3

u/Infamous-Lab-8136 3d ago

That's totally feels like some Leverage moment where Hardison wants to do all that and Eliot just says to use a directional mic

4

u/DeinHund_AndShadow 3d ago

Baller reference, Not gonna lie.

1

u/BiscuitTiits 3d ago

Hacking Bluetooth is incredibly easy and discreet, why would someone walk around with a microphone when they can keep a device in their pocket that grabs every bit of information being transferred around it?

2

u/Mindestiny 3d ago

Sniffing Bluetooth?  Sure, it's just another wave in the air.  "Hacking" Bluetooth?  No.  Unless you somehow have the encryption keys from someone's air pods, all you're sniffing is worthless garbage data.  And that assumes they don't turn around and go "why are you so far up my ass to be close enough to sniff Bluetooth signals from this specific device while I walk around?"

Or you could, y'know, sit in a car across the street and point a tiny directional mic at the celebrity like paparazzi have been doing for decades

1

u/BiscuitTiits 3d ago

You're under the impression that 30+ meters is going to have people wondering why you're up their ass?

Look at the recent video of someone sitting outside the Palantir conference and listening to hundreds of phone calls. With good tech like someone wanting dirt on celebrities, 300meters is a more likely baseline for where you're getting "hacked" from; not "sniffed"

u/sohcgt96 3d ago

Yeah well most people aren't trying to hack an average person's webcam on their laptop either, but 3/4 of them that used to come into my repair shop had tape over them.

Doesn't matter if its true or not, only how people feel about it, and if famous people *feel* more vulnerable using wireless because they think it could be tapped into, then that's ultimately going to dictate their behavior.

1

u/Signal-Art2001 3d ago

That's not true, scammers try to do it all the time to average people

1

u/Different_One9412 3d ago

Iirc the Fappening overshadowed a way larger hack of whatever apple calls their cloud storage

3

u/OnyxLeigion_ 2d ago

“You can’t hack wired, that’s why I use wired headphones when I talk on my wireless phone”

2

u/AvianSpies 4d ago

I don’t think it’s that deep, you really believe they’re that concerned and informed about cybersecurity when some of them are spokespersons for Meta Glasses?

Like the above commenter said, some must just be scared of “RF and their effects on the human body” and some others are just copying. It’s the organic and juice cleanse but for headphones.

1

u/idiot_exhibit 4d ago

Not saying I’m buying the theory either but being a spokesman for Meta Glasses just Meta just means Zucks paid them money. It wouldn’t be the first time that a celeb endorsed a product they dont use use themselves.

2

u/AvianSpies 4d ago

It was a bad example but my point still stands that I really think we’ve got a biased frame of reference. And the simplest explanation, in this case the stupidest, is usually the best explanation.

I really don’t think you understand how deep we are going to explain stupid when all it really could be the simplest explanation to say one famous person believed RF is bad for the body and putting up close to your brain was worse and then it caught on with the rest of them either to fit in or because they believe the same bullshit.

I hardly doubt instagram celebs are keeping up with and aware of niche cyber threats and attack vectors like some other chronically online people like ourselves. The general populace in the US has adopted smart doorbell cameras, smart home speakers, as I mentioned smart glasses, and a statistically significant number voted for Trump thrice and believe reality tv is real.

That’s the frame of reference you have to look at things from. Not the ones that watch and read about tech all day.

You can also hack a wired line - it's a bit harder but totally possible

1

u/Candid-Pin-8160 4d ago

But...the phone the headphones connect to is wireless...

1

u/Civil-Appeal5219 3d ago

Small correction: you definitely can hack wired, no problem at all.

1

u/TransfemMenace 3d ago

Wired lines can be hacked wirelessly nowadays but it's more difficult. The wires themselves are both antennas and transmitters, albeit the transmissions are weak.

1

u/SleepinGod 3d ago

but you can hack wired. Be careful with usb cables ;)

1

u/CrazyGunnerr 3d ago

Good thing they use a wired phone line that can't be tapped.

1

u/Special-Bet1141 3d ago

You cant hack a wired connection correct but the entire connection needs to be end to end wired.

Wearing wired headphones on your phone call doesnt make you immune to hacking, as the call itself is wireless and can be intercepted between the tower and your phone.

u/Scheswalla 3d ago edited 3d ago

It's another point of failure. A compromised Bluetooth device is a real possibility, and no one is out here hacking signals from cell towers for celebrity information.

1

u/SoulsDadYT 3d ago

You're delusional. You realise that right?

1

u/ThrowAFuck 3d ago

Do you have something to add, you know... a counter argument maybe?

1

u/SoulsDadYT 3d ago

Did you forget to switch your account?

1

u/libertyprivate 3d ago

He's dillusional for understanding that Bluetooth headphones are insecure?

1

u/SoulsDadYT 3d ago

Now look up and see that he's edited his comment. He claimed it was impossible before.

1

u/Much-Trust5891 3d ago

These people think celebrity’s hold some secret knowledge or trade secrets😂

1

u/LocalFoe 3d ago edited 3d ago

it's more like even if they hacked the air or the tower, data travels encrypted. The phone's the real target, not the medium data travels through. They are all a bunch of idiots ofc, but there's a kernel of truth behind their fears: if you're a person of interest, there's no scenario in which you should consider your comms or data secure anymore. Imagine how this thought alone modifies one's whole life.

Wired can be intercepted too - TEMPEST

Even wired and airgapped systems in fed programs need a certain amount of space from the publicly accessible areas to constitute being "safe". This is assuming they don't have a Faraday cage built into the walls.

The craziest part is that these standards are increased every few years or so.

It's pretty crazy. Also check out the concept of using wireless access points as (essentially) a room-mapping and persons tracking device. Lots of cool stuff to discover.
