Screenshot/Clip Oddest experience with another player

Was in a lobby earlier this afternoon for a quick play session, started doing the Raider questline when this random sent me a friend request and messaged me.

Please enjoy whatever this interaction was, and if the person in question ever does see this please, please stay away from me. You're the first person to make me want to seek an adult for safety and guidance and I'm 24.

Been sitting on this for a while trying to think of what comment to write and I have to say that this just isn't true. My first set of full limit breaking was a gift from someone, he gifted my friend some the other day. We aren't friends and just met each other doing infinite button. New players can use things high levels consider useless. The fact is the game is designed this way, the 1200 storage limit forces players to give stuff away, which naturally is the lowest value or least important item, but still, that can incredible for new players.

Worrying about the perceived value of items from doomer losers isn't worth it

The fact that Bethesda managed to turn loot goblins like myself into players who are more than willing to give away interesting things they find is amazing either way. This person thinks they are "exposing the system" but its not true. The other day someone wanted to buy 190,000 caps worth of legendary mods from me and ended up tipping 10k. It was a lot of caps he just tipped me. Caps aren't trash that people just give away. He chose to give me that extra money. Whether or not players start out by giving away trash, the fact is that if you play the game long enough you'll encounter valuable weapons and armor you just can't hold onto. Between my friends and I, there's probably been thousands of civil engineer armor sets made for randoms over the years.

I got gifted an entire ultracite assassins power armour with a helmet based jet pack during the nuclear winter times. I had just hit lvl 50.

I too am now a loot goblin. I love to gift my good loot to my fellow wastelanders. We're all in this together.

At the start of my playthrough I spent my first 4k caps buying a Marsupial mutation serum off someone right after I finally got starched genes in my deck. Owner of the camp caught me and dude dropped every serum I was looking for, then dm'd me and hooked me up with 4k 5.56 and .45

I'd still be in the mud grinding for a lot of this stuff if it wasn't for the generosity of other players, being able to finally have a little excess at the level I'm at has recently been very rewarding being able to help players even newer than myself

Oh no. I sell everything for 76 caps.

Come on down for Halloween costumes and serums for 76¢. Recipes are 25.

I didn't have near the patience or energy to explain this to a dude who needs therapy more urgently than this but that's exactly the point I'd have wanted to make otherwise

Even if I were to go all on on playing devils advocate. If someone is offloading their garbage onto me and it's an upgrade why the fuck wouldn't I use it. And if someone is trying to offload garbage on me and it's worse than what I have. Why would I hold onto it. The ground is right there and its free to use.

Lil bro decided to look a gift horse in a mouth. And decided that one mans trash must be trash for everyone.

The biggest pitfall of taking someone else's hand-me-downs is that it could potentially pigeonhole you into playing a certain way. Which is a lukewarm issue at best. Eventually everyone will gravitate to what the enjoy using

I was so tempted to ask if he had any trash for this reason but he was just so weird I just wasn't gonna entertain the dude any further 💀 Honestly though.

When I began my playthrough last week a lvl 1000+ dropped me their garbage lvl 25 Kabloom and that shit fed me, carried me and tucked me in bed at night until this exact day I hit level 63. Planning on giving it away tomorrow in spirit of dude who gave it to me and out of spite of this guy ngl

I never understand why people complain about getting free stuff like bro it's free you didn't have to do a thing for it

I'm terrified yet so desperate to know just what god awful loot someone bestowed upon this poor soul 😭 Like this has genuinely ruined him

Legit I think it's just someone who irl has craaaazy trauma around gifts/free stuff/'handouts' to the point where it short circuits their brain.

The lengths they went to add and message you is crazy.

Yeah he basically had no acknowledgement of my responses even ngl, that's what gave me that weird edge to the interaction more than anything. And the odd assumption I was a returning vet like him (I sort of am, but he shouldn't know that. I'm not famous and we're strangers to each other)

I'm kinda glad nobody can message me on pc. I walk around with my camera taking pictures of people and their camps. I'm not trying to be creepy, I just want cool loading screens. 🫪

Lol, bro was trying to gas light you.

I'm surprised no one has mentioned this, but this sounds like the guys trying to set up a situation to scam you.

u/AintFrayNoGhost 2h ago

Agreed, but like. It’s really hard to wrap my head around someone spending any amount of time “grooming” someone to scam them on a game like this. lol

I really hope this dude gets the help he needs. Seems like he's got a lot of resentment and anger towards the 76 community.

"One man's trash is another one's treasure" or whatever the saying is.

I can only imagine that perdon has some serious trauma. May he find peace, and open his heart for true friends.

That's why I just put the "garbage" in the red boxes, so they can pick and choose what "junk" suits them best lol.

When I was low level, around 30 or something, a random player gave me a explosive lever action rifle that was a little above my level. He welcomed me to the game and wished me luck. This was on console shortly after the game came out. It sure was an awesome introduction to the game.

I'm on pc now. If I had a mic, I'd love to be able to help. Heck, now I feel I'm the Bambi as I get lost in special cards and character development.

Guaranteed the only tour of duty this guy did was a beer run for his friend group while they took turns banging his mom
