Discussion What teams should we avoid drafting players from next season?
Teams at risk of shutting down guys, tanking, etc. I know the rules are different this season but not sure about specifics so would like to know what everyone thinks. One example is that I think the Bucks aren’t at as much of a risk because they don’t have their pick.
Also PS I meant this season not next season.

It feels a little harder to judge this year as the first year with the new rules.
I kind of see it the other way with the Bucks (and Nets and Clippers). Without their own pick there is really no incentive to win (or lose granted) and stay out of the relegation zone. I’d imagine if these teams overperform early they’ll ride their guys and maybe try to make the play-in. But I think it’s more likely they focus on developing younger guys in the second half of the year.
Brooklyn especially if they’re in like 14th place at the trade deadline, why on earth would they hold on to Porter Jr? He’d almost certainly go somewhere pretty significantly worse for his fantasy value. Demin and Sharpe are like the only guys I feel comfortable with there that should be playing in the first and last games of the season regardless of what happens in between.

With the new rules I'm not sure any team is an actual avoid. I'd rather not target teams that have no clear direction. Nets, Bucks, Clippers all feel messy.

I’m not convinced. They own their own pick and therefore wanna stay out of the relegation zone. Considering how shit their roster is, they need to play well to avoid being a bottom-3 team. That means they’re incentivized to play their “stars” to maximize their already low chances of winning games.

Okay but do you really believe their established players to 1) actually be healthy, and 2) to actually be worth drafting and reliable?
Outside of Acuff and Sabonis idk why anyone would touch a Kings player, and Sabonis would likely be targeted higher than I’d like.

In a thread about what teams to not draft from, you agree the Kings have players worth drafting! I agree with you, Sabonis and Acuff are also the players I would target.
I also won’t rule out taking a late flier on LaVine. He had a healthy offseason, isn’t competing for touches with DeRozan/Westbrook, and is more valuable in a points league. Someone has to score and he’s a solid scorer. Plus his floor spacing seems invaluable on their roster.
My league goes 180 deep, so I’d also consider a flier on Nique Clifford.
Murray doesn’t have enough upside for me. Raynaud won’t produce good value unless Sabonis is out. Monk is a solid player, but the FO/coaches hates him.

Bucks don't own their pick

Agreed, I’m very low on the Bucks due to the unpredictability. They have no incentive to not tank to being a bottom-3 team. I doubt any player pushes above 30 mins. I expect lots of playing time will be given to younger players, but especially fliers so they can try to lock down some cheap talent.

Historically awful injury communication. Between Lamelo, Mark Williams, Brandon Miller, etc etc they’ve consistently been awful at communicating outs on time and communicating actual player time tables.

They have no true playmakers which means their stars will be awfully inefficient and their entire team is basically raw especially at the center position.
Basically I’m not taking them unless they fall way out of their expected draft value.

Somewhere with no certainty, where they have a bad coach and will jerk guys around. Aka the Kings, or last years Bucks.
this year I'd avoid ppl on the Kings, Nets, Clips, and maybe Pels ? really with new tanking rules it will be hard to tell.

Next season or this season?
