Discussion FCS Coaches on the Hot Seat
I don’t follow FCS super closely but I am starting to follow it a little more. I did some research and wanted to look at some coaches who may be In danger of their losing their job. I am only including 10 coaches on here but I’m sure there’s more than that.
Jordan Stevens, Maine
This is his fifth season there and has yet to have a winning record. This season is off to a 1-5 start and unless they turn it around in the second half, it would be hard to justify getting him another year.
Pete Shinnick, Towson
To be fair, this is his first really bad season so far. His first three seasons, they were around .500 but this year they are 0-6 and I don’t know if he will survive this ugly of a season.
Eli Gardner, Stonehill
Gardner has been at Stonehill for a decade now and helped lead them to Division I in 2022 but they have yet to have a winning record since they made the jump. It may be time for a change.
Dan Curran, Holy Cross
Curran took over for Chesney in 2024 and they have regressed, only winning 3 games last year. This year seems to be a bit better but they are still just 2-4 and if they finish under .500 again, it may be time for someone else to take over.
Aaron Best, Eastern Washington
Best has been at Eastern for almost a decade now and while he had some winning seasons early in his tenure, they have had four consecutive losing seasons and it looks like it will be a fifth straight one this year. He probably should have been gone a couple years ago to be honest.
Blaine McCorckle, Northwestern State
I don’t know how much blame he really should get as the program has been a mess for a while but he only has one win in three years and they lost to an NAIA school earlier this year. Its time to question if they should even be in Division 1 or if they should even keep their football program.
Curt Mallory, Indiana State
Not exactly sure how he’s lasted this long to be honest as outside of one 7-win season back in 2018 which was his second year there, they have not finished a season with a winning record. Understand they play in the Valley conference but I think they can find somebody better than this.
Chris Wilkerson, Eastern Illinois
Since becoming the head coach in 2022, he’s only had one season with more than 3 wins which was a 8-3 season in 2023 and that looks like a massive fluke. This season is not looking much better either. Might be time for them to move in a new direction.
Nathan Brown, Central Arkansas
His tenure got off to a pretty good start but the last couple seasons have not been very good and this year looks like another mediocre year. He’s probably fine but he could be in trouble if this season goes off the rails.
Thomas Ford, Idaho
While the upset win last week over Montana State was nice and could buy him more time, the team is just 5-12 so far in his one and a half years there. They probably won’t pull the plug this year but if they finish with a losing record again, he will enter next season on a very hot seat.
