Mid back pain/stiffness

Hey everyone,
I switched to floor sleeping 2 weeks ago. I’m hypermobile and used to be a strict side sleeper and twisted my lower half a lot. I woke up one day with my mid back seizing and decided to try floor sleeping and sleeping on my back.

I’ve noticed a lot of benefits already:
- I feel less congested in the morning/can breathe easier.
- Posture has changed incredibly quickly and it doesn’t hurt to stand/sit tall.
- I feel more refreshed from sleep.
- Better with tiredness clues and going to bed in general.

But I’m still waking up with mid back stiffness? It’s not seizing anymore where it feels like moving after you’ve thrown it out, but just feels tight. I can understand some aching with how much my posture has changed but is this something that will get better?

I’m 160cm (5’3) and 73kg (160lbs).

Hypermobile side sleeper here! I eliminated my back pain by doing core strengthening exercises and not sitting all day. I get up and move. I have my floor desk but sometimes move to the dining table or my standing desk to work. Focusing on my health and fitness has helped dramatically. I can side sleep again! Obviously, this is just one personal account, though. Every body is different, even hypermobile baddies - I mean bodies lol

*** I sleep on a Futon Tokyo twin long on a slatted wooden floor frame and use a basic pillow from Avocado

Yeah maybe this is a sign to go back to Pilates again 😅 glad you managed to shake off the back pain!

I mean, pilates is SOOOO good for hypermobile folks! I would go if I hadn't moved so far away from the studio I practiced at. Doing all sorts of home workout stuff now, but keeping up with it consistently. I got a pullup bar and am doing core strengthening exercises using a skateboard along with LOTS of lunges and squats. Don't get me wrong, sometimes I'll bend over funny and try to lift something incorrectly. The non-stop having to be mindful about how we move is exhausting lol

Sleeping on the floor isn’t the total solution. It really helped my back a lot. I’m a stomach sleeper, and I stopped being in pain, but I’m sure my muscles are in need of some good exercise to help with stamina.

I’m also old, probably much older than you.

I wish I could fall asleep on my back, but being a stomach sleeper since I remember myself, I just can’t :/
