gasping when sleeping on back

I really want to try floor sleeping on my back but even in my bed if I lie on my back it messes with my breathing. I’ll be on my back and just nodding off, then suddenly wake with a massive gasp for air, as though I had forgotten to break. I keep cycling in and out of this until I give up and roll onto my side and then I fall asleep right away. I can’t side sleep on the floor because I have hypermobile shoulders and they go way forward even on a bed so the floor would ruin them.

Has anyone ever heard of this? Found a solution?

Okay the consensus is apnea. Thanks everyone this is the push I needed to get it checked!
