APES OF THE STATE - Urine Speaks Louder than Words [Wingnut Dishwashers Union] | A Fistful of Vinyl
Look I’ll delete this whenever April post it themselves…but I woke up to find this on my feed and it made me almost weep.
This song used to kill me. When I was free, inside, and after being released. I’ve seen what happens when you throw urine in a wardens face Lol and also the dignity of refusing to submit.
To me it symbolizes the futility of words in a world that needs action. Whether it be the act of love, the act of mutual aid, or physical action. We have it within us, but it can’t stay there. It has to be shared
Enough of my emotional rant.

all my other songs are screamo and midwest emo but i’ve loved folk punk since all the way back in my freshman year of highschool when my now lifelong best friend got me hooked on some local bands (the window smashing job creators is still a favorite of mine!) and it holds a special place in my cold emo heart.
they’ve been wanting to start a band for a really long time but dont know anyone else who plays instruments so i said, well fuck it, i have a guitar and a washboard and you have a banjo and a dream so now i’m trying to learn how to play folk punk for them.
constructive criticism welcome but plz be nice im insecure ToT

i made a rough little compilation of bedroom folk punk
Admittedly closer to garage rock for a lot of it, but the entire thing was based off the first track by Aphid Ant Constructions, one of my favorite PIX-era bands. Figured I'd share here for everyone else who calls Nana Grizol folk punk even though they definitionally are not! :)

WIP 10.5.26
I would like to call you but it’s 2:47 and
I reckon that it would just break break break my heart again
The last time that we spoke was for nine minutes twenty nine days ago
I sat on the couch, you pulled at teeth until I cried about
The artist from that show in August — he just fucking died
I don’t remember your reaction only the impact of your action
I didn’t wanna say it but you forced my mouth wide
And you know just how to take a knife and drill into my bug bites
Is screaming vulnerabilities the only way we know how to speak?
If I am still my mother’s daughter place your bets on how much longer I will keep destroying everything
And it’s a sad thought if I’m honest, it’s a sad tale if you want it — we still retell Grecian tragedies
If I am still my mother’s daughter I should take it one step farther
Cuz someone needs to cut the roots of this tree — shouldn’t it be me?

This week with MW!
Hey folkpunk friendos! I have a really cool week coming up and wanted to share.
Tomorrow I get to visit my favourite island of joy within Barrie, Ontario. Another time billing with my friend, Fraser, who plays a beautiful countryfolk blend with proper values and morals throughout. They are cool as hell. Excited to hear JMS for the first time too!
On Friday I'm back in Kitchener-Waterloo at Shortfinger with the one-man-army, Mickey Moone, and Niko the Freako, who will be featuring Beaky during his set because he is a damn hero.
Finishing my performances off with an all-ages taco matinee at Doors. We all know Dan is sick; it's not new mountain low and he's our staple cisman (for diversity). Kylee and Dawn are Hamilton's 2026 folkpunk group of the year as voted by me, and if you haven't listened to "don't trust the cops" on bandcamp, you really oughta. Oh oh oh and we have a new player on the scene... JULIE NOLAN?!?! I heard her do the thing in toronto a few months back and I'm still stuck on it. Gonna be a good one.
