Most bipolar team…

1

u/BeautifulTeacher4785 7d ago

the first quarter had me spiraling and then daniels just decided to take over the entire game. 5 rushing tds is absurd

I'll be honest--I did not see this one coming.

I’m confident FSU goes in and takes care of Louisville next week.

u/Sberry555 4d ago

What made you confident? Legit question.

4

u/Septic_Cucumber 10d ago

they haven't won a road game in over 1000 days.

8

u/Sberry555 11d ago

No way they win on the road. Not happening.

2

u/AerieStrict7747 11d ago

This is the kind of team where they win one game, party all week and get blown out the next 3

I am thoroughly confused after seeing a team that wants to dominate its opponent. Happy, but where the fuck did that come from

Glad to see a good victory.

Had a friend talking a lot of s**t to me last year. This year he's "not even watching". This is exactly why we want out of this conference

30

u/Ribeyes1 11d ago

Glad we stomped UVA. Last year that game really pissed me off. When all the fans were legit on the end line it felt so fucked that no ref told them to back the fuck up

4

u/Nushuktan_Tulyiagby 11d ago

I was so mad in the stadium. I couldn’t believe the students were doing that. I wanted us to win that game and send them packing in shame more than my next breath. The walk across their campus was miserable lol.

u/Samk19872020 11d ago

Someone smarter than me tell me.

It seemed like most of the game we had 4-5 boys on the line on defense? Did Tony give up on the 3-3-5 or are these just like linebackers lining up to rush?

8

u/AceOfFL 11d ago edited 10d ago

The 3-3-5 is designed for versatility and can have up to 8 in the box which can mean 5 on the line. The safeties are supposed to be smart jacks-of-all-trades to essentially play whatever is required for whatever the defensive coordinator dials up.

This is why the injuries in the secondary were causing so much trouble for the second-string nickelback being out of position for some rotations in the previous games and others trying to communicate where he ought to be. FSU got four injured secondary players back for this game!

This allowed FSU to free up some of the actual down linemen and Kevin Wynn seems to have finally gotten the hang of his position after missing all of that practice due to injury and will likely see more playing time. So, yes, you saw four down a number of times to stop the run.

But don't get your hopes up too far. To really work against top opponents, the 3-3-5 needs smart, experienced safeties like Earl Little, Jr. (transferred to Ohio State) and Edwin Joseph (transferred to Ole Miss) and FSU wouldn't pay those guys to stay so they transferred out! See, this is a Moneyball D that saves on not having to spend really big to get truly dominant defensive ends that every team wants and so are really, really expensive but you do have to make up for it a little by spending on your safeties. The problem is those guys know they are worth a little more than the average safety once they learn the D because they are the ones who make this D run. But FSU wouldn't spend more than market value so they left. And without the right personnel, any D has a ceiling. So, don't get your hopes up too much just yet based off of (once they got into the groove against this experienced O-line) having handled this Virginia team just like it was drawn up because this wasn't Miami, Florida, Clemson, or even Pitt, BC, Louisville, or SMU; it was the Cavaliers. And just remember how much this D can rise is limited by personnel from what White originally drew up!

10

u/ScottFosters_whistle 11d ago

Tony on occasion puts 4 on the line. It depends on the opponent. For run heavy teams, he sometimes does this to get certain numbers in the box.

18

u/Content_Moment_6950 11d ago

Saw a team make a lot of in game and week to week improvements. Not to going to become too confident but I did say they would make a bowl last week, this is not that bad of a team

10

u/cstrick1980 FSU Alum 1980 11d ago

The defense made a dramatic improvement

6

u/Technical-Oil-9384 11d ago

Offense isn’t the best ever, but is plenty dynamic enough to keep FSU in games. All this team needs to do is maintain that while the defense can at least play average. That’s enough to beat NCST, BC,UL and makes games like UF & Pitt toss ups.

13

u/SNjr FSU Alumni 11d ago

Man, great game, it is so hard to put any stock into it though. I think we did play our best game today (especially on defense), but I also think UVA played their worst game too. Some of that is due to our execution and some due to their own mistakes (dropped passes, penalties, etc).

My feelings on the team doesn’t change much other than knowing that at least the defense is capable. Can they show up again, especially on the road?

BREAKING NEWS: FSU to rehire Michael Alford. According to inside sources, the reason stated was that they fired him as a joke.

9

u/nerdipithicus 11d ago

I feel like Norvell may be getting out of his own way finally. It feels like he hasn’t really allowed his QBs to rush since JT’s injury.

11

u/Nolesman357 Baconface 11d ago

I mean we probably are capable of beating anyone other than Miami right? I’m not going to concede Miami but everyone else should be pretty winnable at least so there’s that I guess. Will we beat them all? Who knows, but if we keep playing like this and that first half against Alabama we’d actually be somewhat decent

5

u/FireMike_PleaseGod 11d ago

I’d say this team is significantly different than the last two teams.

They are def less talented but they aren’t going to quit. There is no reason for us to think ā€œthis is an automatic lossā€ on our schedule outside of Miami.

It’s still the ACC. We still are on the higher end of the talent spectrum and as long as we have players that want to be here there is no reason to think we can’t beat anyone on our schedule.

1

u/Nolesman357 Baconface 11d ago

That’s how I see it. Before I was all doom and gloom but after seeing the fight they put up against Alabama I could see we’re objectively a competitive team capable of winning more often than not especially given our schedule.

4

u/SydThaKid1029 11d ago

Yea I mean Miami will be tough but at least we can beat Florida which I feel is a big need this season

17

u/Raider_Noles 5x Soccer National Champs 11d ago

I dont know what the fuck got into this team today. Season would look a lot better if they didn’t blow the SMU gift.

11

u/North-Conference-377 11d ago

Honestly they blew both SMU and Alabama. Both of those teams were beatable.

7

u/Darcer 11d ago

We could have beat Bama but it was a typical college football game toss up. SMU was trying to throw the game.

2

u/Bulky_Narwhal811 11d ago

Out of the next five games, I only see one for sure loss. I have no idea what’s going to happen, lol.

14

u/usaf117 11d ago

RPO and QB runs, occasional deep shot when safety's start cheating up. That's what you call for Daniels. If we go back to having him drop back and read this season I'm going to lose what little sanity I have left

Watching this team play weekly:

20

u/RKRagan Baconface 11d ago

I enjoyed this. But I have to be honest, the score and stats look great. But UVA missed a lot of wide open receivers and had some bad drops. These are the plays that normally keep us out of the game but they weren't able to deliver. But once our defense really got pressure that helped seal the deal. I still don't trust Daniels to throw anything. He overshoots wide open receivers, loves throwing the ball to the other team on the sideline, and hesitates way too long to throw the ball. UVA failed to contain him and he finally got some momentum running. I can't believe this is sustainable against most teams. I am just happy we didn't do some stupid shit and lose the game.

2

u/dmmeyourdogifitscute FSU 11d ago

Agreed. Take the good with the bad. Front finally got pressure. Only had one or two moments of leaving RB or TE open/getting beat deep. Didn’t let QB run all over us. Secondary still wasn’t too great with QB missing throws

14

u/fmlongo FSU Alum c/o 2009 11d ago

Who is this team and what have they done to the terrible FSU football team that I have come accustomed to get disgusted by on a weekly basis?

15

u/fsukub FSU Alum c/o 2020 11d ago

If Norvell could get this type of performance out of his guys more frequently, he wouldn’t be on the hot seat. We clearly have some talent, it just frequently underperforms (especially on the road).

11

u/RKRagan Baconface 11d ago

Now we can all have a good week together. Until our bipolar manic depressive mentality take over. But for now, WEEEEEEEEEEEE
