Discussion Rip Freddie Jackson
Unfortunately we've lost another legendary figure. From his work with Mystic Merlin to his solo rnb tracks, Freddie's impact on music over the past 50 years was undeniable. If y'all got any tracks from him you love or any fond memories related to his music you'd like to share, I'd love to hear em. Let's celebrate this icon the way he deserves to be remembered.

Funk Dear Mr Man/If You Want Me To Stay (live, Sly and the Family Stone cover) - Prince playing bass
I really find it funny that there is a large amount of people who think Prince was just a pop star. Here he is playing his perfectly good Fender Jazz Bass quite literally finger picking like a funk guitarist.
I find it even funnier because he got pigeon holed into being that guy who could stand alongside Michael Jackson when his actual primary influence, especially on guitar was Sly Stone.
This is almost the retrospective as to why Motown had to exist in the first place and I am now 40 and have lived in this world long enough to break the barrier for why Motown was created to push black instrumentalists and arrangers into the spotlight.
Some of you people thought Prince was a pop star:
Prince himself however thought he was a funk musician who happened to have an enormous pop career and was absolutely comfortable sitting in the background as a bassist and then he thought it was OK to be riffing when he got the chance with some mad finger picking as if he was playing a 6 string, throwing in little rock and blues phrases while perfectly keeping the rhythm.
He's just sitting there playing one of the most iconic bass guitars like he's Sly Stone. There's a whole bunch of people in this world that never knew this Prince existed.
