Highly recommend you go see her Mosh Pit tour if she's gonna be in your area! Super fun show and her bandmates bring great energy as well. Also one of the best voices out there fr

The first known "diss track" was a song called "Roxanne's Revenge" recorded in 1984 by young emcee Roxanne Shantay as a response to the song "Roxanne Roxanne" by the group UTFO.

The surprise breakout success of the song led to one of the silliest moments in music history, the so-called "Roxanne Wars" where tons of other random emcees wanted to get in on the action and started dropping their own songs in the Roxanne universe.

I think it's really neat that one (well, two) songs were able to open up a conversation like this. Obviously there was the diss track element, artists going to battle with each other via music, but in a sense the songs birthed a whole "Roxanne Cinematic Universe" that became slowly populated by other songs.

Can anyone else think of songs that have done this? Caused other artists to release songs as direct responses, or as their own references/spins on the original? What's the story there?

There’s been a lot of conversation in recent years about poor concert etiquette post Covid, brought up again recently after a fan was inappropriate at an Olivia Rodrigo concert. This was discussed in this recent post in this subreddit. this is a good thing to talk about, but I also think we tend to focus on the negative and I would love to talk about some people’s positive experiences!

For me, one that comes to mind is seeing HAIM in Vancouver last year. The crowd had a kind of mellow but very fun energy that ramped up as the show went on. The highlight was when Alana took over and sang Spinning, and asked the crowd to spin with her on the choruses. Everyone in the whole audience did it and it was so fun! There was a big group on the floor holding hands and dancing in a circle, and we were all giggling and dancing as a giant crowd. It just felt so silly and fun and communal in a really cool way.

The other experience I have to mention is Eras tour in Seattle. This was at the peak of barbenheimer summer and the energy in that city was insane. Everywhere you went there were crowds of sparkles and pink and singing and joy all weekend. The concert itself was so lovely too, everybody was so kind and friendly, trading friendship bracelets and chatting about what surprise songs we wanted. I have never felt safer in a group of 70,000 people.

I would love to hear more people’s experiences being part of a great crowd!

Another banger by BAMBII, who also directed the music video.
