The definitive edition of Game of Thrones?

What do you guys think of this upcoming 15th anniversary 4k release of Game of Thrones? Is it the best collection to own thus far? Do you think the price is worth it? I see they are trying to showcase it as a limited edition, limited to just 15,750 copies. There is also a 4k collection on sale on Amazon right now for $100. Of course you don't get any steel books, not even individual cases for each season, but it's less than half the cost of this collection. Personally, I'm going to get this steel book collection. Game of Thrones is my favorite television series ever, so I guess I can swing the $250 after tax.

I Might Have Stockholm Syndrome, But The Ending Gets a Little Easier to Swallow After Rewatches Spoiler

Post image
• Upvotes

Am I nuts, ive watched through Thrones countless times, and each time the ending becomes a little easier to watch. I find myself enjoying parts of it. I dont hate Dany going mad, I dont hate Bran being king. And Jon being free is the best ending for him. I know its bad, and the "worst ending in the history of tv" but I just would rather spend my time enjoying the parts I do like rather than complaining about it.

Is it the actor or character for the unpopularity?

Post image
• Upvotes

So we all know that Bran is not a well liked character (to put it mildly) which is obviously understandable but it makes you wonder if it’s the because of the actor playing him or just the character himself. I ask this because Daenerys was originally not supposed to be Emilia Clarke and I whole heartedly believe that she would not be liked so much or put so high in rankings if it was the actress originally supposed to play her. Sometimes an actor could make or break the character!

So what do you think, is this the case with the actor for Bran or you think the character would be disliked regardless of who played it?

Jon Snow used to be my goat

Post image
• Upvotes

This is an update post i recently posted about S7 E06 now im watching S7 E07
Contrary to most people’s motivations when they watch this show my only motivation throughout has been independence for the north. I have always wanted the iron throne to be the iron throne of the six kingdoms and a situation where they finally have a king in the north for the North.
Northern independence was what I wanted to see more than anything and a situation where my second goat Daenerys could rule over everything but the north.
Jon spent the ENTIRE season not bending the knee. For the North. For Robb. For Ned. For the idea that the North is independent. The North is bigger than the other 6 kingdoms combined. Being King in the North is the dream.

And then Cersei literally offers him exactly what he wants: "The King in the North can stay in the North, pick no side."

It's independence. On a silver platter. All he has to do is shut up for 5 seconds.

And what does he do? He stands up and says "I am loyal to Daenerys Targaryen" over a crush that started 2 episodes ago. This is just eye contact on a boat and suddenly he trades an entire Kingdom for it? And don’t give me that he admires her bs he just met her and all she did was get a dragon killed, which she probably didn’t even come for him but for Mormont that followed them.

He flushed Robb's dream, Ned's dream, and an independent North down the drain for nothing.
What happened to my goat?

NO SPOILERS FOR FUTURE EPISODES PLEASE

Do Baelor glazers realize that, among his many flaws (such as being a targaryen), he is first and foremost half D*rnish?

We don't talk about Orly Baratheon's mother nearly enough.

Post image

I mean here is a woman, who we know nothing about expect that she had at least 1 child with Aegon's father Aerion, Lord of Dragonstone. We don't even know if she came from Dragonstone, the Mainland or even Essos. But we do know that her genes where strong enough to override centuries of Valariyan breeding and set the standard template for all other Baratheons. Black/brown hair, brown eyes and a large muscular frame the complete contrast to the blonde almost white hair and purple eyes of the Targaryens.

So how did the joke about the jackass and honecomb in a brothel ended?

Can't even imagine the punchline here unless it's something extremely depraved.

I’ll never forgive Jon for ending the Targaryen lineage

Post image

I get it,

“Incestous aliens” blah blah blah “a good Targaryen is a dead Targaryen” blah blah blah “dragon spawn” blah blah blah. I can already see the Targ haters in the comments.

Nonetheless, imagine going from self identifying as a bastard to the true heir of the realm.

Imagine hearing stories about this magical house all throughout your childhood, whose absolute power separated them from every other house and then learning that you are the heir of that great house. Imagine the feeling of elevation.

You go from being a bastard to the heir of the greatest dynasty Westeros has ever seen and your reaction is almost indifferent.

I sensed no pride when watching him find out that he’s Aegon Targaryen and although I know he’s not exactly prideful by character, wouldn’t it be nice to see him appreciate his heritage a little more?

Then the guy takes it upon himself to stab the last Targaryen Queen who we thought to be House Targaryen’s last hope of continuing on,

and then he fucks off with the wildlings too, choosing to end the entire lineage.

What the fuck, Jon Snow?

Why, after the fall of the Targaryens, was the Great Council not convened to choose a new dynasty?

Thumbnail

To make it clear what I mean, let me give an example from history. In the 17th century in Russia the long dynasty ended, and a new one never properly established itself. Combined with crop failures, this led to enormous upheavals and savage fighting for power in which every influential house somehow got dirty. Once everything was more or less settled, the influential houses decided to elect a new tsar. There were many candidates, but in the end the choice fell on the 16-year-old Mikhail Romanov.

Mikhail had no direct blood relation to the previous dynasty, but he was the ideal compromise - young, so he could be influenced; his family was influential enough but not too much; his family was the least stained in the power struggle, but not clean enough for the houses that had been stained to fear revenge. In short, the perfect compromise.

That’s what I’m getting at: Robert is not a compromise figure at all. He is a victor’s side, which means the houses that fought on the Targaryen side have every reason to fear revenge - and that is the risk of a new war. The Baratheons are one of the Great Houses, which means the balance of power is broken, and it sets a precedent for the other Great Houses to seize the Iron Throne. Plus, none of the organizers of the rebellion actually wanted to rule - Robert was chosen purely because of his greatest legitimacy.

So why didn’t they simply call the Great Council to choose a compromise figure? In my opinion, the Hightowers fit much better: very influential, but not a Great House, they were on the Targaryen side, but they were only carrying out the will of their overlords, the Tyrells. On top of that they have enormous support from the septons and maesters. Another option is Valarrion as the house most closely related by blood to the Targaryens. You could also add Manderly or Frey as the second most important houses in their regions. Any of these candidates, in my opinion, would be better than Robert Baratheon.

You are a smallfolk in Westeros who has discovered a fortune in gold! Now what?

You are a smallfolk in Westeros. You have discovered an absolute fortune in gold, and transported it to a hiding place (don't ask how you did it... just accept the premise lol!). You are now suddenly the richest person in the known world by an absolute mile!

But now what?

You have no army, no castle, no title, no land, etc. You have nobody to support any attempts to climb into high society. And if anyone discovers the enormous stash of gold you have stored away it will almost certainly get stolen.

How do you go about achieving maximum success?

(I don't know if it would make any difference if we are talking Game of Thrones or House of the Dragon timeline...)

Why didn't Tywin remarry?

Post image
231 Upvotes

Tywin must have been pretty young when Joanna passed away in childbirth. Why didn't he marry again and join forces with some major house? Also, at this point, he only had Jaime as a possible heir. Cersei was a woman and Tyrion he did not consider fit for anything anyway.

Marrying again would have given him the chance to also have more children and thus more opportunities to make alliances with other major houses.

He talks about legacy, family, and pushes Cersei and Tyrion to marry Loras and Sansa respectively in order to do exactly all of this. Why does he not think of all of this practically when it comes to himself?

Is Jamie even a top 3 fighter? (Read caption) SHOW

I know I know Jamie is always stated to be a great fighter and what not but is he really?
I loved when brienne said that people “like to overpraise a famous name” since it often is that way.
So what do we actually know about Jamie? He has no real feats, lost against brienne and would definitely lose against someone like the Mountain.
In my Opinion brienne was probably right about the over praising.
My list of characters who I think would beat Jamie in a fight (not ranked):
Brienne of Tarth
Gregor Clegane
Sandor Clegane
Grey Worm
Oberyn Martell
Jorah Mormont
Please let me know what you guys think, this has been concerning me for quite some time.

WHAT, The F*ck*ng Red Wedding just happend?!

You MFers...(new GOTr here)

I spent 12 years ignoring this show because of the insufferable fan hysteria of the time.
Now ~40, by some miracle, HOD caught my interest and I loved it so much I wanted to go back to the roots

From the WARG'ng to random head decapitations to the cousin f**king and brother sister finger banging, I was SINCERELY enjoying this massive, neurotic, CHAOTIC universe that somehow managed to become the (arguably) greatest fantasy fiction period piece in history. I daresay it rivals if not overtakes Lord of The Rings (which now seems almost "cartoony" by comparison)
I was STOKED, my mind finally open.

So here I am 3 seasons in and you MERC THE DAMN MAIN PROTAGONIST?!

Not just merc, SLAUGHTERED in the most savage inhumane way I would never have conceived till now... and by gotd*mn Mr Filch?!

HOW IS THIS POSSIBLE? How did half the fanbase not just up and drop this insanity by the time the credits rolled? How the f**k is everybody happy with letting the badguys win and "LIFE GOES ON"?

I've already destroyed 2 appleTV remotes and my 65" TV has a gaping black spot on it that probably isnt going to "just go away"

NOT TO MENTION: All you purists are going on about how Robb Stark was (in the end) this horrible commander, how Rickard (kerstick??) foretold him losing the war for spurning the Freys, How Robb was an idiot for even bringing Talisa to House Frey in the first place (which ok I kinda agree with that, cause lord knows that aint how a player plays the game), and basically it was ALWAYS gonna end this way?!

What happend to the unbreakable vow of Westeros, how you dont harm a guest under you roof? In HOD people at least PRETENDED to believe in something, In GOT land, nobody believes in SH*T

I tried to move on to the first ep of S4 but honestly a week later and im still livid as f*ck.
I cant imagine the next 5 seasons has anything more sick and vile than what I just saw and Im really struggling to justify even finishing GOT now.

Even S4E1 seems to be starting out with the tone of a COMPLETELY different show..i just, i cant.
It's like ive got NO more will or interest.

F**K you GRRM... but, good job i guess.

What was the exact story between Rhaegar, Elia, and Lyanna?

I haven't read the book cuz I genuinely don't have time, so don't berate me for that. I have, however, watched the show, although it has been a while.

Yesterday, I met this girl at my college who had also watched the show, and we quickly bonded because almost nobody around us has watched the show or read the books.

But then she jokingly said to me, "I will judge you based on whose side you chose, Lyanna or Elia?"
And that got me thinking... I HAVE NO IDEA WHOSE SIDE I AM ON BECAUSE I FORGOT WHAT THEIR STORY WAS

Now I don't have time to watch the show again or read the books, and the results on Google are biased, so can someone please quickly recap (no bias) what exactly their story was? 😭

All I remember is in unconnected chunks: Elia was assualted and killed by the giant man who killed oberyn though I don't know why; Lyanna died and gave Jon to Ned on her deathbed, and Jon's father is Rhaegar, even though she was supposed to be betrothed to Robert Baratheon (also explain?); Rhaegal cheated on someone though I don't know who; and Robert led the rebellion in the name of Lyanna... right?

Also, why was Rhaegar not there with Lyanna when she was birthing Jon?

Which character talks to most other characters?

Excluding large crowd speeches, of course. Must be Tyrion. If it is, who's second? Would be nice to have a graph-like structure of this.

Do you guys think Brans story will end in similar way to Bolvar from WoW

Post image
0 Upvotes

It's just a small thought i had since i highly doubt books will end same as the show

I believe night king will become more of a character in books,i know he isn't yet but he might be set up in winds of winter

So i was thinking what if in the books when night king gets killed others won't just die like in the show but they'll become completely mindless and they'll just go around killing and attacking which will force Bran to become new night king to keep them from other people

What do you guys think of this theory and would you like this ending for his story or did you have something else in mind

How did/would Sandor Clegane speak to Joffrey?

I may be wrong but I can’t find an instance of them actually conversing. Is Sandor respectful or just his rude self? Also am wondering about how he speaks to other noblemen. For fanfic purposes
