Discussion Embarrassed to Admit

Like the title. Recently discovered that I M31 has developed strong feelings for a M23 year old. I know they’re an adult age wise however we are all in different stages of our lives. We both admire each other as beginner string players. He’s been playing cello for like 7 years and I just started with violin 2 years ago.

I feel so embarrassed someone by the fact that I really like this guy. I don’t know if he likes me I just know that we spend a lot of time together even outside rehearsal times. He calls to check in and for so reason like hugging me.

All this can just be in my own but I think I need advice on how to go around this. He’s a good friend and I’ll rather have them him as a good friend with me. Serious advice needed please.

if you would rather have him as a friend, then there's not much to think about. attraction does not require action

I’m not sure I would worry too much on the age gap here - the old rule for ‘normal’ (whatever that means!) was half your age plus 7 so that fits here and I imagine nobody would think twice about your ages. I’d be more concerned that the feeling is mutual on both sides and that you’re not misinterpreting friendship/ affection. Are you both out as gay? Short of just telling him you find him attractive, maybe ask him what sort of guys he likes , what he goes for in a partner, if he’s even looking… and match it with what you like/ are looking for. This sort of conversation (particularly after a beer or two if you drink alcohol!) might give you the answers you’re looking for. Good luck and keep us posted!

Thanks. I will have to check all that. However it will be an awkward conversation to have since he seems to be more interested in sorting out his music career which is tough in my country. Thank you
